It has been a busy month at Amber Hills, though not everyone is happy about it...
Of course the staff have their hands full as the tithe is still missing and the perpetrators are still at large. Zathris was temporarily removed from his normal duties to work on the problem, and when Shadux was injured in an attack, that left quite a gaping hole in the Stewards staff that needed to be filled. Cyrek felt Mariss was up to the task, but when Shadux heard that the Steward's DAUGHTER was filling his shoes, the understeward decided to come back to work early, leading to a stand-off between the two men. Finally Cyrek agreed to allow Shadux to come back, but assigned Mariss to be his assistant.
Eventually the search for the missing tithe was called off and Zathris was called back to his former post, but life since then has been far from quiet for the Lord Holder's son-in-law. One evening he overheard two men discussing a painful secret in Holder Kaldyn's family. Apparently the man Kaldyn had known all his life to be his father is not his actually father! Zathris decides that he must tell Kaldyn after the Holder's mother dies before the man claiming to be his father Sardin, can strike his vengeful blow. But Kaldyn refuses to believe the "rumor". How will that play out? Stay tuned!
And it seems that stolen tithes are not their only problem. Steward Cyrek asks Zathris to investigate some suspicious ovine death reports at Three Hills Hold. It seems the Hold claims a number of ovine deaths every turn at the same time. It's a little too consistent to just be coincidence, so Zathris and a beastcrafter will be checking that out. He discussed the matter with his brother-in-law, Benran, who was not exactly pleased at the younger man's confidence. Perhaps he sees a potential rival in Zathris?
Steward Cyrek cannot seem to catch a break this month. After a tithe went missing, another tithe seems to be called into question, and his authority is called into question by Shadux, Cyrek's own daughter seems to be giving the poor man's blood pressure a bump as well. Despite having been attacked walking alone at night, it seems Mariss has been walking alone once more. This worries her father, especially since it seems that the men who were involved in the incident were only given a slap on the wrist for giving Shadux a beating, but are not being punished for their original intention of harassing Mariss! It worries the Steward as he could see the potential for revenge should they catch her out walking alone once more. She promises not to walk alone... temporarily. Will it be enough?
