Amber Hills has been through some turmoil this past month and it doesn't look to be stopping soon.
First of all, Guard Corran went to the Lord Holder's son-in-law, Zanthris, with news of another theft. He is beginning to suspect that it is an inside job. But who could it be? Suspicion can be cast on everyone from one of the Lord Holders sons, to the Steward and his assistants, or even one of the guards. Hopefully the perpetrator will be caught soon!
It seems that the Lord Holder's oldest son by his second wife, Nimroy, is taking a more active role in his father's Hold once more. He had a long talk with his brother-in-law about regrets, especially that he did not appreciate his wife while she had been alive. He promises to pay his little sister, Benani, a visit soon.
Zathris also had a visit with a new technician at the Hold, Journeyman Isily. She was looking for the circuit breaker and the Steward's assistant gave her a hand and chatted with her about what it's like being a female crafter in the Hold.
The big news, of course, was that Lord Benaroy, after over forty turns as the Lord of Amber Hills, has finally passed. His ever faithful Zelanka discovered him and rushed to find the Journeyman Healer, Chupsim, but it was too late. The Hold has begun the grieving process while Cyrek contemplates funeral plans. It will fall on the Stewards shoulders to maintain order in the Hold since there is no named heir. Nimroy grieved alone for his father, remembering the happy and not so happy times in their relationship. He later offered a shoulder to his sister Benani. Hopefully he could provide her with comfort and calm her fears for the future of their Hold. Zelanka, ever the picture of control, set her grief aside to be an understanding ear to Shadux, who cannot imagine an Amber Hills without Benaroy. They both had so many things that were left unsaid at the time of his death. Her control falters when her husband, Petriv, holds her and allows her to give in to her grief as she remembers the moment some thirty turns before when she first knew that Benaroy had been more than just another lover - that he had been the love of her life.
Lord Benaroy will be missed, but the Hold will go on without him. Now the questions is, who will be chosen to try to fill his great shoes?
