Lanniya comes to visit F'lin and he talks about moving to Barrier Lake.
Urlene and Lorican spend their first night together. A group of smiths wish Lorican goodbye at dinner, and he attends with Urlene. After such a brief time together, Urlene has to wish her lover goodbye. Their parting is difficult, but they promise to keep in contact.
Urlene talks to Y'gel about her fears and he gives her some relationship advice. T'ner discusses the difficulty of what being a bluerider means with Ayressa.
R'fal takes K'don for a visit with his family. R'fal hasn't given up on his promise to his father, and searches for the mine where he's being held. With the aid of a map, R'fal sneaks out of the Weyr and scouts the mine.
L'kri goes through withdrawl while under the care of Urlene. He talks during his delirium, which gives Urlene some insight into why he has a drinking problem. She asks Olwinna to check on him but the first meeting doesn't go so well.
Santhiath rises for the first time and many give chase, but Seneth is the winner. Dessa has some difficulty coming back to herself, but both she and F'lin are thrilled.
Alina has a flight as well, and tries to give herself over to the sensations. But J'ackt doesn't win, and Alina's emotions afterward lead to a fight. Later they have a long discussion and make up.
After hearing that he's weyrmated, Cosani makes sure J'ackt still wants her.
Aviday meets her half brother K'ale for the first time.
Much to Urlene's shock, she discovers that she's pregnant. She had believed it was impossible after she never conceived with her husband. There are two possible fathers-- one is weyrmated, and the other is far away at Barrier Lake Weyrhold.
The three judges from Weyr, Hold, and Hall conduct the trial of Grevan. The man pleads guilty to attempted murder and the details of his plan to kill J'ackt are laid out through evidence and testimony. Now his fate must be decided.
