The nefarious and dangerous Varlin comes to the Weyr to seek information about Lorican and runs into Urlene. Urlene writes to Lorican and tells him about her mysterious visitor, and also lets him know she has some news to deliver in person. When Lorican visits to talk to her, Urlene is busy in surgery and he encounters Y'gel instead. Y'gel has some harsh words for Lorican.
Unable to meet with her, Lorican writes a note to Urlene, breaking up with her. He also writes to Y'gel, urging him to watch out for Urlene...and keep an eye out for strangers.
J'ackt comes to N'vanik with his concerns about R'fal.
T'ner celebrates his promotion to Senior Weyrling with Ayressa. T'ner askes F'aen for help with some very persona lessons. When Aviday askes for the same kind of help from T'ner, he turns her down. L'fic, a brownrider, also turns poor Aviday down.
K'sedel checks with Aviday and her eagerness makes the Weyrlingmaster a little concerned. Aviday and Ranni discuss their new weyrs and relationship troubles.
K'deren compliments Alina on her flying. Alina and J'ackt make plans to visit their friend for her birthingday.
K'mai comes to visit his friend L'kri in the infirmary and cheers him up.
Y'gel confesses to Briata that he's been intimate with Urlene and that the Weyrhealer's baby might be his. Briata takes it surprisingly well.
A retired goldrider moves to Dolphin Cove.
Ranni has her baby early and it's rough on her. R'nar seeks comfort from his mother.
Kapera discusses with D'hol her reasons for asking him to transfer to the new Weyrhold with her.
