Reports for Dolphin Cove Weyr

July 3rd 2007

HURRICANE!!

(note that the first half is about the Hurricane.. scroll down for more juicy gossip than just the hurricane information!

In month 3, Dolphin Cove Weyr is hit head on by what Terrans would call a Category 4 hurricane. The storm surge was tremendous, getting close to 15 feet, and flooded the entire lower caverns.

Several lives were lost despite the Weyrleader grounding the Wings, including three young Weyrlings that were panicked by the storm and could not visualize properly.

The worst tragedy came when the flooding dared the Hatching Grounds, where two days before, gold Nyith had just lad a proud 42 eggs. If the eggs were not moved, they would all be lost.

In a daring rescue attempt, with the cooperation of Dragonsfall Weyr and their Weyrleaders, J'darin organized every bronzerider in the Weyr to move the eggs /between/ to Dragonsfall's Hatching Grounds.

Traelyn had her hands full keeping Nyith from tearing the Weyr apart in her frenzied desire to protect her eggs, and it took a great deal of exerting power to get Nyith to agree to letting the bronzes touch her eggs.

During the rescue of the Eggs, a bronzerider was lost /between/ carrying two eggs and two more eggs were lost, smashed against the wall, leaving only 38 eggs to look at on the Sands. And not Dolphin Cove sands.

Traelyn and Nyith stayed at Dragonsfall for two sevendays, giving the eggs time enough to harden, and they were transported a second time back to Dolphin Cove, where they belong.

While they were gone, J'darin struggled with a Weyr in the middle of tragedy with short supplies on food, and even fresh water. Hunting and gathering parties helped, in addition to a generous bump in the tithe from Emerald Falls Hold. The Weyrleader leader also fought his own internal battle, and deciding with great reluctance but Hasaarth's full support, to lower the age limit to 15 turns to fight in the Wings.

Traelyn, while settled in Dragonsfall and unable to leave Nyith, had time to fully develop and understand her feelings for Wingleader U'kaiah, of Dragonsfall. The two of them carried on their own inner battle, and finally came to an understanding. The both wanted more from each other and would try to make a long distance relationship between two Weyrs work. After all, they had dragons..

This made it hard for Trae to return to Dolphin Cove, but on the eighth day of month 4, all the eggs were returned, along with the Weyrwoman. And 8 days later, there was a joyous event - a Hatching!!! Four sad eggs remained on the Sands, uncracked and unhatched, but 34 new weyrlings walked away from that wonderful event, all smiles. J'darin and Traelyn put on a brave face for the families of the newly Impressed, yet internally, this worried them even more. How were they going to fight Thread now?

Criticism and worry came from every side, while J'darin just tried to keep his Weyr together. They've patched things back together, piece by piece. They've had a Hatching with several new Weyrling pairs, but the scars and the wounds from the Hurricane will last many turns to come.

The Storm saw many folk of Dolphin Cove banding together to fight the water. It also saw many couples seeking solace in one another like D'cal and Dyaera, and even brownrider M'tone was visited by Larken, the Harper's wife, during the worst of the storm. Eleada lost her young son, but he was returned with the help of R'mer and B'ram, and now B'ram and Eleada seem to be moving toward something a little ... more than casual.

Greenrider Cherlyn also found out she was carrying not one but two babies - twins - and would need special medical care for the duration of her pregnancy. And worse yet, she couldn't fly Thread.

Due to the lack of recent Hatchings at Dragonsfall, Dragonsfall sent a few of their older Candidates to Dolphin Cove to Stand for the Hatching. There was a bit of mixing, combined with quite a bit of grumbling, between the two groups of Candidates, but Kiala and Harila managed to make friends.

Dysali and D'ren have a long talk when J'darin asks the young greenrider to fly in his Wing. D'ren is not happy about his love flying Thread at 15 turns, and that, combined with the sadness of the Weyr down in strength and struggling with good, seems to bother both the bronzerider and Dysali.

At the first Threadfall including 15 turn olds, some of the younglings get Scored, but none die. Dysali earns herself a matching scar on her right arm to go with her left, and Lillyth collects another Threadscore scar, leaving the young green and her rider looking almost as if they'd been flying Thread for months instead of 1 day.

Greenriders P'yke and G'lag find a 'best kept secret' place to strengthen their friendship with each other, discuss what being a greenrider really means, and relax from all the extra duties the hurricane caused.

Headwoman Ylisahn begins to understand something is wrong that causes her to continually wake up, and also some other issues. She worries about it alone.

I'lan has his canine, Bubbly, neutered. So no more Bubbly pups.

The Weyrs seems to have returned to normal with the advent of the Hatching. But will Dolphin Cove ever BE normal with a wherry's arse for a Weyrleader, 15 turn olds flying Thread, a Weyrwoman involved with the Wingleader of another Weyr, a new Headwoman dealing with food shortages and water shortages, and Thread still falling 4 or 5 times a month?

Make a character today and find out what _normal_ really means!!!
