The dying holder of Green Valley names his successor. Demir then goes with his elder brother Kobias to Amber Hills to present his claim to Lord Zathris who confirms him after consultation with Kobias. Demir reflects over a time with his father. Mirdello figures out his position with his elder brother then comforts their sister. Meawhile Sisallah brings her concerns over the memorial to Mirdella and then threatens to throw her out of the house.
Barenziah is named as a lady in waiting to Lady Faldrimme as she travels to Green Valley and her parents give her a golden parting gift. The little gold flit is named Chiffon.
Eneri enjoyed some time with Onala and later discovered her husband with another man. Yet she wasn't at all annoyed. It's a good thing they have going in their braided relationships.
Wirnan and Kaya seem to come a little closer. Is there a light at the end of the tunnel?
Karhal and Loella are married in a lovely ceremony by the Lord Holder. But at the reception the groom was poisoned and Lady Benani kidnapped. Lord Zathris had the entire hold searched but they were unable to find clues to where she'd gone. Rain and snow prevented them from finding any clues to her whereabouts.
Loella, Karhal's father Kardein and Petriv waited for news about whether or not the healers can save the big Guard Captain. They discussed whether the canine's could be used to track the kidnapper. Chupsin and his staff worked hard and were able to pull the man back from the brink of death. The poison left him weak and bedridden for weeks. But when Loella tried to bring Livvie to see him Chupsin banned the canine from the healing area.
The unsavory and unbalanced Crolarin rejoices in his power over the Lady Benani forcing her to his will again and again and uses fellis to keep control. Defiance is punished but in an unguarded moment she escapes and tries to run naked through the snow. He trackes her down and returns her to the cave. Sick and broken, she is again tied and nursed back to health.
Meanwhile back in the infirmary Karhal finally wakes up. How will he be able to better help in the search for the missing Lady.
