Reports for Harper Hall

February 6th 2008

The Harper Hall has been at the Weyr for a whole turn now! How time does fly. It's residents seem to be settled into their home now, but it was still a month full of surprises!

Hallsecond Thanja's son Tanrin has an unpleasant surprise for his father when he informs him after dinner one night that he has decided not to follow in his parent's footsteps. It seems the youngster has his heart set on becoming a Healer instead. Kanydrin is not convinced that this is the best move for his son, or that the boy will stick with it long, but in the end he grudgingly consents to let the boy try.

Master Thanja also surprises journeyman Benar when she takes an interest in some of his work. The journeyman uses her flit, Plumage as a model for drawing dragon talons. Benar confesses that part of the reason he was so happy to be assigned to the Hall was the fact that he had admired Thanja's work for a long time. He wants to work on illustrations on the art of Dragonhealing as she had done in the past. She suggests he asks the healers to observe and sketch their work.

Hallmaster Almonteo is caught of guard by a surprise vistor - Master Endras, father to Ednan at the Dolphin Hall and a daughter, Enilda at the Harper Hall. Though he is a journeying Harper, it seems Endras' speciality is composing, something he has in common with the Hallmaster. Endras has some choral music to pass along to master Eilomar which greatly pleases Almonteo as well.

Master Eilomar is shocked to find out that the Master Shaelis, whose works he had admired for some time, is actually of all things a _woman_! Shaelis is not fooled into thinking it was a pleasant surprise. She had been expecting just such a reaction from some Harpers, but, as she reminded Eilomar, she had been a Master before the Plague had come to the South. Not only that, but she reminded Eilomar that they had both studied under a rather formidable female choir master back in the day. Eilomar beats a hasty retreat, but perhaps he will think about females crafting in a bit different light? And perhaps Thread will fall upwards too.

The Hall has settled into the Weyr now, so why not dive on in and have a little fun! Come on... you know you've always wanted a HARPER!
