Physical Description of Persona:
Ketlyn is tall and willowy in the way that teenagers often are. Her tightly curled black hair drives her to distraction, and she often braids it back to keep it out of the way. Freckles dust her nose and shoulders, and her wide, dark eyes are surprisingly doe-like.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Stubborn, contrary, and often prickly, it can be hard to get past Ketlyn’s guard to meet the softer person within. She has high standards for herself and those around her, and is often crushingly disappointed when she (or they) can’t live up to them. Because she helped raise many of her siblings, she has a tendency to adopt strays and mother people around her whether they want it or not.

Ketlyn wants to be important and is sensitive about being overlooked or left out. As the second eldest of a large farming family she often felt unnoticed, and being left on the Sands without a dragon for so long compounded this. She’s sure that Impressing will change her life for the better�" songs are written about dragonriders, after all. For now, she tries her hardest at her lessons and is a good student but not a prodigy or even the best in her classes, much to her disappointment. All she wants is to be seen, loved and in control of her own destiny.

She loves to read novels, dancing, and collects pretty rocks that she polishes and keeps in whatever bowls she can scavenge from the kitchens without getting into trouble. She also enjoys archery but would be horrified to go hunting.

History of Persona:
Ketlyn was born and raised at a small farming cothold within Dolphin Cove Weyr’s territory. She is the second eldest of a family of eight and responsibility came easily to her, even if she didn’t want it. She and her elder brother Kemmin sacrificed much of their childhoods taking care of their younger siblings, and while she loves them fiercely and would do anything for them, she also resents the freedom they had to be children.

Ketlyn was eager to leave home when she was Searched just after her fourteenth birthingday. While she misses her siblings terribly, she also felt constrained by them and hated the way her future was already planned: marriage, motherhood, farming, death. She went to the Weyr with big expectations that were dashed when she was left on the Sands at her first Hatching.

After Standing unsuccessfully for a Turn, Ketlyn started trying to find a Craft that might suit her in an effort to avoid a life as a drudge. She’s tried Baking (too repetitive), Dolphineering (too wet), Healing (too icky) and Harpering (tone deaf) before settling on the Smithcraft.

When she was fourteen the call came for Candidates at Barrier Lake Weyrhold, and Ketlyn decided to go since there were so many Smithcrafters there to teach her, and she could still Stand as a Candidate. She was sure she would never Impress�" but then suddenly Varinth was there.
