Persona Profile: E'shren

Writer: Duskdog

Name: E'shren
Pronunciation: Eh-SHREN
Age: 20
Birthday: m4 d17
Rank: Junior Weyrling
Location: Barrier Lake Weyr
Craft: Smith
Craft Rank: Junior Journeyman

Physical Description of Persona:
Erashren is on the shorter side, built lean and wiry rather than broad, with the compact strength of someone used to hauling tools and metal but not especially interested in bulking up. His skin is fair, maybe even a little pale, his hands long-fingered and delicate-looking -- until you see them up close and realize there are callouses and small burn scars from his work at the forge. He moves with a kind of restless purpose -- never quite still, always half-cocked toward the next thing that needs doing.

His shaggy black hair is perpetually falling into his warm brown eyes, which are expressive enough to give away every spark of conviction or flash of irritation that crosses his mind. His features are open and earnest, made softer by the easy smiles he offers between outbursts of passionate certainty. Even when he tries to look serious or authoritative, there’s an underlying boyishness to him -- an impression of someone whose heart is always visible on his sleeve, no matter how hard he tries to hide it.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Erashren’s moral compass points _true north_, but he’s the type to swing it like a sword. He believes that decency is an action, not an attitude, and he lives by simple principles: do what you can, protect who you can, and leave things better than you found them. His sincerity is hard to doubt once you’ve been around him long enough to get to know him: he genuinely cares, genuinely believes in doing what he can to make the world a better and safer place. He rarely hesitates once he’s decided what “the right thing” is.

The problem is that his version of “right” isn’t always the same as everyone else’s. Passionate, outspoken, and unwilling to stand by when he thinks something is unjust or someone is suffering, he often barrels into conflicts that aren’t his to fix. He has a bit of a savior complex and a habit of offering help even when it’s not wanted. He has no patience for cruelty, hypocrisy, or arrogance, which puts him at odds with those who bear those traits prominently… but he also doesn’t seem to recognize that he’s rather arrogant, himself, which also makes _him_ a bit of a hypocrite. If you pointed out that he’s judgmental, he’d splutter something about “well some things need to be judged!” and have a hard time admitting -- even just to himself -- that yeah, he _is_, both when it’s hard and necessary and _someone_ needs to speak up to make things right, and when it’s utterly uncalled-for and even a little mean. Zeal can be an admirable trait, or a blunt force object, and he just doesn’t always recognize the difference.

For all that, Erashren isn’t humorless. He laughs easily, teases kindly, and has a knack for coaxing others into doing better -- at least when he’s at ease and his posturing is put aside. His temper runs hot but cools fast, leaving behind an apologetic grin and an offer to share klah.

History of Persona:
Erashren grew up at the Smithcraft Hall, the son of two hardworking journeyman smiths who fully expected he’d follow in their footsteps. He did -- enthusiastically, even -- throwing himself into apprenticeship with the same wholehearted conviction he applied to everything in life. He was a decent hand with basic forge work and metal shaping, but his real reputation formed around his _mouth_, not his hammer. He had opinions about everything and wasn’t shy about sharing it: when he saw another apprentice cutting corners, he called them out; if he thought a journeyman’s instructions risked waste or inefficiency, he pointed it out (loudly); and if two crafters bickered, he inserted himself in the middle. He meant well. But Erashren’s earnest belief that problems existed to be fixed -- and that he was the one to fix them -- made him a persistent, if well-intentioned, headache. To his masters, he was mouthy, troublesome, and arrogant.

When the Searchriders came and selected him, the lead journeymen exchanged looks that were equal parts pride and relief. Erashren, for his part, saw it as a calling: if dragons wanted him, then clearly he was meant to protect and do good on a grander scale. He left the Hall with confidence, a few hastily packed tools, and the certainty that at the Weyr, he could be a true asset.

Dragon's Name: Isarvyth
Dragon's Age: 0
Dragon's Hatching Date: m13 d20
Dragon's Colour: Brown
Description of Dragon:
Isarvyth is unmistakably elegant. He looks composed even when fresh from the shell-- sleek rather than sturdy, controlled rather than exuberant. He’s lean, long-limbed, and finely structured. His hide is a dark, smooth umber dusted with faint sandy undertones, most noticeable along his joints and dusted across his eyes. He will get over his newly-hatched awkwardness quickly; Isarvyth enjoys motion that is clean and intentioned- a precise flick of tail, a single graceful turn of head. Some may find him elegant. Others will find him intensely weird and creepy. He does not hurry, does not stumble, does not fidget, and that eerie calm doesn't always translate over the way he imagines.

Isarvyth is not cold-- but he is careful. He thinks before he speaks, watches before he engages, and chooses when and how to reveal what he feels. His mind is organized, elegant, and oddly soothing. He's intelligent, certainly, quick to pick up new (to him) ideas and encourages his rider to think critically before rushing in. His temperament is composed, occasionally wry, rarely emotive, which may feel odd and awkward at first, especially compared to the more boisterous of his clutchmates. He is more like a typical feline; unlikely to reach for physical touch or comfort or offer it much himself. That's not to say he doesn't care-- he loves his rider and is deeply attuned to his moods. His comfort is subtle, not coddling. He does not overwhelm with warmth, but instead reassures with his presence and unwavering belief in him.

He loves Erashren's fire, his passion, and saw something in him that could be carefully and gently refined into something more. He strongly supports Erashren's sense of justice, but also believes in balance and acting _right_ and _proper_. Isarvyth may seem cold because of this, and he doesn't do much to dissuade anyone from that opinion, but he _does_ care. He does not want Erashren to rush into intervening, to fighting his own battles, but will support him without any doubt should he barrel in anyway. He wants Erashren grow into his strength-- not all at once, not loudly, but exquisitely.
