Crayon Awards: Favorite New Male Persona (August 2025)

Physical Description of Persona:
Tall, lean, every inch the romantic ideal of a man stepping straight from the romances of the Printer Hall, there's even something elegant about him, something poised as if the Smithcraft and harpers chiseled him from stone themselves. His skin is a warm brown with undertones of gold, and he carries himself with a sculpted poise that gives him a slightly older appearance than his Turns suggest. His hair is dark and neatly cropped, though prone to curls in humidity, and his features favor his mother; high cheekbones, expressive brows, and intense, thoughtful eyes the color of polished klah bark. Unlike his brother, the careless grace isn’t ignored; it’s done without a conscious awareness of it. He also has more care around the fire, and sports fewer scars upon his body from it. He keeps himself clean and well-kept, but has no care for the eyes that fasten themselves upon him.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Kedolin wears silence like a well-tailored tunic. He observes and moves through the world with the steady composure of a man who sees more than he says, and feels more than he shows. Where Donnarion dazzles, Kedolin grounds. Unlike his brother, his presence doesn’t ask for attention, but instead holds it, quietly. He isn't cold, but he is reserved. He's not distant, but deliberate. When he speaks, he does so with every word considered and measured.

At times, people mistake his quiet for indifference, because they don't see the storm beneath the stillness, or the slow, smoldering heat of a man who feels with the entirety of his being, even if he rarely shows it. He is loyal, though when that loyalty is betrayed, it is difficult to repair it. He doesn't play games, he doesn't pretend. What people get from him is real, and it runs deep.

It is in what he doesn't say where Kedolin's strength lies, and where the truth hits deepest, and he shows his heart only with those to whom he is closest, and when it matters most. His mind is sharp, but he doesn't flaunt it; his independence is quiet, but resolute; and behind his thoughtful eyes lives a man who might not speak often, but who, when he chooses to act, does so with an unwavering conviction.

History of Persona:
Born the elder only by minutes, Kedolin was one of a pair born to bluerider D'norix and his then-weyrmate, a woman from Garnet Valley Hold. The relationship itself ran its course as Weyr relationships do, and their mother returned to her home hold to raise the children among her own family and support system. That their crying and behavioural issues mysteriously stopped overnight was noted but brushed off, explained away by the change in surroundings. They weren't wrong.

The separation itself was amicable, and D'norix visited as often as he could, sometimes bringing his latest relationship with him. The twins grew up with no shortage of family, and it was in one of those visits with their father and his blue Saeruth that it was discovered they could hear Saeruth without any effort, just like their father. It was decided that they would remain at the hold until they were older, and that they would be welcome back to the Weyr to Stand if they so chose.

Neither of them did, however. Both opted to apprentice at the local Smithcraft Hall, specializing in glassblowing. While Donnarion focused on making the little pieces requisitioned from the Technician Hall, as well as more practical pieces, Kedolin discovered a talent for art and beauty. His large hands managed to carefully craft the finest pieces of glass in an array of colours that shimmered in the light. It was quickly obvious that he would someday become a Master.

Their casual, easy relationship with their father changed when Saeruth died. Kedolin was fifteen at the time. D’norix, shattered, withdrew from his sons and almost everything else. Over time, letters came less and less, and eventually stopped. Although dragons came on Search, Kedolin refused, for he would not go without his brother. When he discovered his brother’s sexuality, he said nothing. When asked about his brother’s suitability as a possible dragonrider, he said nothing. When asked what he wished to do, he said nothing and simply worked in the shop, diving more deeply into his craft.

When, at twenty, Donnarion applied to transfer to Barrier Lake Weyr, he put in the request for a transfer. When denied, he finally accepted the Searchriders' offer to go to the Weyr as a candidate, and in the end, was joined by his brother. Together, they would stand on the stands, not knowing what the future holds.

Family and Friends
D'narion, 20, Wingrider, Cypress Wing, Barrier Lake Weyr (Identical Twin Brother)

Dragon's Name: Zineth
Dragon's Age: 0
Dragon's Hatching Date: m8 d20
Dragon's Colour: Bronze
Description of Dragon:
Even has a hatchling, Zineth was broad of chest and long of body from the moment he burst from his egg. His muscles ripple like water over smooth stones, fluid, and powerful. When he stands, he does so at his full height, a majestic figure, and he knows it. His hide shimmers in in the sun, a smooth, reddish bronze, as if his particular alloy was forged from copper. It is painted over his body in smooth, flowing strokes. At the tip of his tail, along his legs and wings, and at the ends of his headknobs, his hue darkens to a more shadowy finish.

His wedge-shaped head is perfectly proportioned; just the right length, just the right width. From it, his powerful neck curves down into wide shoulders, and a deep chest framed by powerful limbs. His large, whirling eyes are vibrant, jewels set within the red-bronze setting.

Zineth is not inclined to chatter incessantly like other dragons do, but he is content to engage with others far more readily than his lifemate, and encourages K'lin to seek out his own kind because he understands that it is good for him. He takes his job seriously, and while he can be playful, he knows that when it is time to focus, he must do so - for distraction could very well cost his lifemate and himself their lives.
