Description: Party Time
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 3, day 12 of Turn 7
R'enh wasn't at all shy and since he wanted a party and had no
weyrmate to organize it he decided to throw his own and just have a
bunch of friends over to his large weyr for his birthingday. Of course
there'd been a hatching that morning and the reception to follow but
he knew there were some who could still make it.
He'd arranged everything with the lower caverns in advance. The food
had arrived early and was already set up before anyone showed up. He
even recognized a few things from the hatching reception but that was
fine with him.
Zorenh had gone to visit his foster mother poo pooing the whole thing
like any adolescent male who hasn't quite reached the girls are cool
stage. Which was just as well, some parties could get a little...
adult. He smiled as he heard the first knock.
Saibra smiled when R'enh swung open the door, "Happy Birthingday!" The
Weyrwoman's Second smiled as she held up a bottle of Benden in each
hand. The invitation to the man's party had been a welcome one since
she was still getting to know people.
"Thank you," he grinned taking one bottle and bending to kiss her
cheek. "I'm glad you could come."
"Wouldn't miss it." Saibra smiled as she turned her cheek up to the
man and then stepped into his weyr. She was not surprised when she
mentally searched and found Chioneth sharing her ledge with Mnoranth.
D'hol knocked on the door sharply and glanced around. He was early,
but it appeared not terribly early. He nodded at R'enh and quirked his
lips upwards slightly in greeting, then nodded towards the newest
goldrider. His expression held interest, but it was a restrained
thing. "I hope you don't mind if I made a short appearance."
"Not at all," R'enh smiled as he scooped the other bottle of Benden
from Saibra's hand. Placing one on the table to share he quickly put
the other into his private cupboard to savor later.
Aishara headed for R'ehn's weyr with brisk pace. She didn't want to be
late. The hardest part had been to figure out a gift for him. She
wanted to give him something special, something more meaningful than
the usual belt or book. She had ended up to a fob watch, with personal
engraving. It was expensive gift, costing more she actually could
afford. So she had to borrow marks from her father. If you could call
it borrowing, for Aivorn didn't want the money back.
"R'ehn, happy birthday!" she called, arriving.
"Aishara!" R'enh grinned and reached out to embrace his favorite
greenrider. "Have you met Saibra yet?" He turned to the goldrider to
introduce her. "She rides in D'hol's wing." He nodded toward the
Wingleader.
The goldrider inclined her head toward Aishara, "Nice to meet you."
Saibra had been introduced to most of the Wingleaders and their
seconds, if briefly, and she had yet to have any real conversations
with any of them other than R'enh. Gossip traveled pretty fast about
Wingleader D'hol, and she was curious to see if the man lived up to
his reputation.
D'hol felt the gaze and a slight smile was allowed to lift his lips.
He met the gaze and inclined his head again before handing R'enh his
own gift. It was a simple matter, replacement straps but they had been
tooled with his name in block letters.
"Pleased to meet you too," Aishara replied with a genuine smile at
the Goldrider, before worming her way under R'ehn's arm and handing
her gift.
N'vanik arrived, slightly surprised to see the new goldrider there.
"Happy Birthingday!" He gave R'enh a clap on the back.
R'enh accepted the gifts with thanks and then turned to N'vanik.
"Thanks," he grinned at his friend.
Opening the one from D'hol he gave a surprised puff of breath.
"Beautifully made D'hol, thank you." Then laying them on the table
with a mental promise to himself to come back and examine them more
closely later, he opened the one from Aishara.
His eyes popped and he pulled her close for a real kiss. "Thank you,"
he smiled and his thumb stroked her temple before he released her.
Putting the timepiece in his pocket, he also gave her a look that
should tell her he knew it was far more than she should have spent on
him and she shouldn't have.
Aishara just smiled, happy that her gift pleased him.
More people arrived along with the harper who began to play some
music. R'enh played host and celebrant all at once. "Feel free to eat
if you're hungry and dance if you've a mind." With that he reached
over to Saibra, "Would you like to dance?"
Aishara didn't worry when R'ehn went to ask the goldrider for a dance.
Her turn would come. Instead she picked up a glass of wine and started
to chat with familiar riders. And some not so familiar.
N'vanik turned to D'hol. "I'm a bit surprised to see you at a party."
The man was so serious most of the time.
Watching R'enh approach Saibra, D'hol shrugged. "I won't stay long. I
figured I would make an appearance, give my gift and leave."
Hearing the buzz of voices well down the corridor Cyradis just slipped
in the door and set her bottle of Citroncello on the table that was
obviously for gifts. Scanning the room she could see that R'enh was
busy at the moment and that N'vanik and D'hol seemed to be chatting so
she made for the food table and picked up a few fingerfoods on a plate
before walking up to them. "Good evening," she smiled between the two.
**And that would be my cue to leave.** D'hol only stiffened slightly
as Cyradis approached. He remembered that this was R'enh's affair, so
though it made his teeth grit, he gave a slight smile and nodded.
"Good evening."
"Good evening." N'vanik nodded to Cyradis. He didn't miss D'hol's
sudden tension. Shards, he hoped they wouldn't start arguing at
R'enh's party.
Saibra had happily accepted R'ehn's hand for a dance, and she smiled
when she noticed that Cyradis and the Weyrleader had joined the party,
"I would say you have had a good turn out for your birthday." She told
R'enh.
"You don't want to dance?" Aishara asked D'hol. She could sense the
tension too and hoped to break it with distraction. She gave the
wingleader a pretty smile.
"N'vanik and I have become very good friends." he replied softly.
Though he couldn't really account for why the Weyrwoman had come but
the more the merrier, "I'm glad you came," he smiled down at her.
D'hol looked at Aishara and his lips curled upwards slightly in a hint of a
smile. "On occasion I will." He offered a hand. "Will you risk getting your
toes stepped on?"
"Sorry I'm a little late," K'deren announced. "I needed to settle the
children."
Cyradis gave him a smile of welcome and slid under his arm to hug his
waist. "Thanks for doing that."
"Not a problem my love," he assured her. "They're all fine now."
"I can live with that," Aishara replied and took D'hol's hand, pulling
him to a dance.
D'hol moved with masculine grace, though he was not as fluid as he had
been in his youth. He did not, in fact, step on Aishara's toes.
Instead, he settled into an easy dance, his hands light on the
greenrider as his lips curled up sardonically. "Quick save, by the
way." He spoke softly.
"You're welcome," Aishara grinned.
With the hatching that morning, R'enh was rather pleased with the turn
out to his party. He hadn't the same reason to party for Elleth's
hatching as he had last time. But this was more fun anyway. He saw
D'hol dancing with Aishara and figured he knew who made that happen.
He'd have to thank her later. As the music ended he lifted Saibra's
hand to his lips and kissed her knuckles with a twinkle. "Thanks for
the dance."
Cyradis rested her head against K'deren's arm. She was exhausted from
the day long festivities and just wanted to go to bed. But she knew
she wasn't quite done. Though it wasn't all that long until the party
began to wind down and she squeezed K'deren's hand saying "let's go."
After D'hol Aishara danced with few other riders too. People started to
leave, but she had no intention to leave until R'ehn kicked her out.
Besides, he needed someone to help clean up afterwards.
R'enh was of course... appreciative.
