Persona Profile: Teldan

Writer: Shale

Name: Teldan
Age: 19
Birthday: m12 d14
Rank: Weyr Resident
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Job: Weyrbrat

Physical Description of Persona:
Teldan's soft, baby-round face has begun, to Dolma's chagrin, to fade with impending adolescence, taking with it the boy's impressive collection of freckles. Above expressive, almost-liquid brown eyes, long, full lashes--his only *truly* distinguishing feature--curl toward a crop of muddy-water hair shorn at the temples. While Teldan's pale complexion may be associated with life in the Lower Caverns, strong sunlight never has any great effect, save to heighten his color for a day or so. Even after the burns fade, rosy cheeks suggest that the lad enjoys excellent health--and, caught at an age where gaps come and go, his frequent smile is subject to constant change. Teldan is neither plump nor scrawny, but he boasts that impossibly wiry frame that only little boys can possess; this, too will change with time, though none can predict when or how.

Emotional Description of Persona:
To understand Teldan, one must only recognize his ultimate motivation: amusement. Mangled fingernails are a testament to boredom's toll on a boy of ten Turns, and Teldan forever seeks attention or activity in some form. Despite his *wholesome* intentions, the poor child is always underfoot, preferring the company of his busy elders--namely, pretty women--to that of his younger foster-siblings. While he basks in the ministrations of shapely young ladies, he is wary of the older sort, whose mothering he will go to any lengths to avoid; it's simply *embarrassing*, and boring besides! Teldan holds the weyrmen in the appropriate esteem, of course, but finds their company awkward, as they are less susceptible to a little boy's greatest weapon--charm.

Although he receives the standard Harper-training, Teldan is less than scholarly; his talents lie in confidence and charisma--but therein lies his weakness, for the boy, despite his obscure existence, may come across as proud or even arrogant. It's an unfortunate impression under any circumstance, as Teldan is merely an unusually social little boy. He may unwittingly cross a line or two in his straightforward manner, but he's simply too young to grasp the whole purpose of etiquette--and, though he may be mischievous (on occasion, downright scheming), Teldan hasn't a malicious bone in his body.

History of Persona:
Teldan's short past is relatively uneventful. Born the son of a dragonrider and a woman of the Lower Caverns, he has spent his life in the Weyr. While his father's identity is certainly no secret, Teldan simply never thought to ask. His mother, a failed Search candidate, chose to remain in the Kitchens, where she could be of some small use--and the infant Teldan was turned over to Dolma, a tired but experienced woman of middle-age. The boy never grew close to his myriad of foster-siblings, feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number of crying, clinging children whenever Dolma requested his assistance. Consequently, he sought company elsewhere and shouldered chores that would excuse him from foster-duty.

Pets

Rags, Canine: aged 8, born m8 d15
Teldan's canine companion was initially given to his mother, the favorite niece of a prosperous herdsman. As electricity had not yet reached the man's own small hold, he intended for the sturdy puppy and her litter mates to one day pull spits in the Lower Caverns; but the Kitchens, having no real need for canines, turned them over to the Weyr proper. Teldan's mother reserved one of her uncle's gifts for her son, eliciting Dolma's quiet disapproval. To the boy's delight, his pet, affectionately christened "Rags" for her thick, unruly fur, proved considerably more enthusiastic than he when it came to such unpleasant chores as tunnel snake extermination. More importantly, however, Rags' lively presence finally eased the boredom of a lonely child.
