Writer: Bree
Name: Gevina
Age:
30
Birthday: m9 d3
Rank: Hold Resident
Location: Amber Hills Hold
Physical Description of Persona:
Gevina is of average height for a woman, though her once slender body has gotten a good bit more curve since she gave birth to her first child. Her hair is red--not the auburn blonde or orange color of some red-heads, but bright, vivid red. It is long and distressingly straight--nothing she tries will make it hold even the slightest of curl.
She shares the curse of most with her coloring--pale delicate skin that burns with the slightest sun and freckles spattering across her nose and cheeks. She has blue eyes that she has long since learned to hide beneath lowered lashes--especially when they betray her annoyance. A fair hand with a needle, Gevina has managed to adjust most of her own clothing so that it is flattering, though always modest.
Emotional Description of Persona:
Gevina has always been a spirited girl, and neither disapproving father nor stern husband had any chance of changing that. She did, however, learn to keep her temper, if not exactly hide it. Her eyes always give her away, and her habit of biting her lower lip when angry as if trying to keep herself from saying something unforgivable. Though she is intelligent and good at making complicated plans aimed at completing certain goals, she is also easily sidetracked and very easily distracted. A penchant for romantic stories has left her craving the passion she never found in her elderly first husband, and her current goal is to find herself a handsome young man to marry.
History of Persona:
Gevina was born to a Minor Holder in the foothills of the Western Barrier Range. Her mother was cultured and expected her four daughters to learn all of the skills she found valuable, such as the running of households and the finer points of embroidery and stitchery. As the eldest daughter, Gevina got the bulk of this teaching, and learned her lessons well. Although she found basic embroidery to be boring and pointless--after all, who cared what sort of patterns a _pillow_ had stitched on them?--she enjoyed the freedom to make alterations to her own clothing.
The only thing neither parent could install in Gevina was a proper sense of submissiveness. In the end, they agreed that she'd at least _try_ to act demure for potential suitors, and in return Gevina was allowed to pursue her slightly less ladylike but far more enjoyable hobby of reading adventure and romance stories.
How well Gevina's act fooled her future husband was debatable, but when she was sixteen an offer came from a wealthy Holder named Havenak. He'd spent the good bulk of his life as a bachelor making his hold thrive, but was nearing his fiftieth birthingday with no Heir. Although Gevina found him frail, unattractive and highly uninteresting, her parents had no intention of turning down the offer he made for her hand.
Havenak proved to be every bit as boring a husband as Gevina imagined he would be, but she was comfortable and treated well, in spite of her occasional spats of temper. His Holding, while wealthy, was remote enough that Gevina had very little company. After two turns she became pregnant with his first child, and her boredom grew as she spent the months trapped in a bed with only a nattering and annoying midwife for company. By the time her daughter was born, Gevina was mad with wanting to see other interesting people again.
Her wish was granted in an extremely unfortunate way. Out riding his fields one day, Havenak suffered a heart attack. He was brought back to the Holding unconscious and never woke up. Two sevendays later his elder brother arrived, claiming he'd come to help Gevina in her time of need. The covetous eye he gave to everything in the Holding--including Gevina herself--told her all she needed to know. Before winter could close her in with a brother-in-law who seemed determined to take his brother's place in _all_ things, she gathered up her infant daughter and fled to Amethyst Cliff, begging Lord Alalir for a place to stay.
