Writer: Jane
Name: Ylisahn
Age:
54
Birthday: m5 d14
Rank: Hall Resident
Location: Dolphin Hall, Dolphin Cove Weyr
Physical Description of Persona:
Ylisahn isn't tall, just a little over medium height, but is slim and noticeably leggy which tends to give the impression of height. Her long hair is worn in a braid that ends below her waist and has faded a little from its original red-gold to a sun-bleached blonde that is disguising the arrival of the first few grey hairs. Her face is round and still pretty in a little-girl way that has always made her look younger than her Turns. These days the results of a life-time of smiles can be seen in the fan of lines radiating from the outside corners of her hazel eyes, but otherwise her liveliness and smiling expression belie her age.
Emotional Description of Persona:
Ylisahn has been blessed with a happy nature and her most common expression is a wide smile that lights her entire face and draws smiles from others. Although not particularly even-tempered Ylisahn is seldom unfair or unkind and it is never long before her sunny temperament reasserts itself.
History of Persona:
Ylisahn was born at Thayan Peak Weyrhold and has never had any desire to leave her home, even when the home relocated to Dolphin Cove Weyr.
The daughter of a brownrider, L'sahn, and a lower caverns worker, Yannay, Ylisahn has a number of half siblings and a much younger full brother, Yasahnay. As the eldest in her maternal family Ylisahn grew up helping her mother with the younger children from where she drifted into her first job, that of helping with part time (day only) foster care for children of crafters and riders. It was work she loved for Turns.
In her late twenties Ylisahn started to find that the work as a foster-mother was becoming less and less satisfying and she asked to be moved. Since then she has spent time in nearly every lower caverns work area but within months of that first move she realised that she wasn't dissatisfied with minding children, but with not having one of her own to mind.
Ylisahn didn't immediately fall pregnant after deciding to have a baby - but her weyrmate did. Wirril's baby, a daughter Rilisa, was born prematurely and though she was small and slow to grow to begin with, little Rilisa had only minor on-going health problems. Soon after her health stabilised her 'brother' Ravere was born to Ylisahn, and he completed the perfect family the two women had dreamed of.
Now adult, the two children are still close to both their mothers and to each other. Ylisahn's son Ravere has taken after Wirril in interests and has apprenticed to the Weyr's weavers, and Wirril's daughter Rilisa is working in the lower caverns in Ylisahn's old role caring for the young children of crafter and dragonrider women during the day.
After being swept off her feet in the dining cavern during the storm surge Ylisahn developed a fear of the tunnels in the Weyr and when the battle with her memories was recognised by a friend she agreed to do something about it. The 'something' she did was make a move to the Dolphin Hall where they needed her expertise as a headwoman and she and Wirril could live outside the Hall itself.
Family and Friends
Ravere, 26, Senior Apprentice Weaver, Dolphin Cove Weyr (Son)
Rilisa, 26, Weyr Resident, Dolphin Cove Weyr (Weyrmate's daughter)
Wirril, 51, Weyr Resident, Dolphin Cove Weyr (Weyrmate)
Pets
Don't, Green Firelizard: aged 32, hatched m12 d21
Don't is a small, flighty green who is consumed with curiosity about everything around her. Luckily Ylisahn has learned to limit the trouble her friend gets into by feeding Don't heavily in the morning and letting the little creature sleep through most of the day.
