Name: N'jen
Pronunciation: Neh-JEN
Age: 13
Birthday: m1 d6
Rank: Junior Weyrling
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Physical Description of Persona:
Though small for his age right now, Nijen’s scrawny frame is just beginning to hint at rangy strength and -- just maybe -- a series of upcoming growth spurts that might leave him tall and lean like the mother that he already resembles. His skin is a warm brown tone, lightly dusted with freckles across the bridge of his nose and cheeks. His dark brown hair is kept short for practicality, often tousled by wind or work no matter how carefully he combs it in the morning. His eyes are a deep, thoughtful brown -- watchful and steady, with a serious set to them that hints at an old soul behind a young face. He carries himself with a kind of quiet readiness, shoulders squared and jaw set as if expecting the world to demand something of him at any moment.
Emotional Description of Persona:
Outwardly, Nijen is a serious, studious boy, thoughtful and observant, dependable to a fault, and a little bit needy for the approval of the authority figures in his life. Inside, he’s bursting with emotion. He’s sensitive, and while he’s usually ruled by his natural sense of self-restraint, he can’t always hide displays of overwhelming emotion -- much to his embarrassment. People might be surprised to realize that he’s an extrovert because he doesn’t exactly fit the stereotype of “social butterfly”, but he really does have a need to be with and interact with other people in order to be happy. It’s evident in his empathy -- the way he pays attention to what others might be feeling, to what they’re saying, the way he puts himself out there to acknowledge and help when he can. It’s how he shows his interest, his care; unfortunately, not everyone shows their affection in the same way, and he frequently feels hurt or rejected when he doesn’t receive the same type of attention in return, even if the person in question absolutely cares.
History of Persona:
Nijen was born at Vista Point Weyr to Nidre, who was a young goldrider at the time, and a father who is either unknown or unimportant -- Nijen has never quite summoned the courage to ask which. The way he understands it, he didn’t spend much time in his mother’s care: just long enough for her to realize that motherhood was not, in fact, something she enjoyed or wanted to pursue further, and then he was in the care of his foster mother, Carda.
He always knew who his birth mother was, of course. They interacted occasionally, usually no differently than any other child who might be doing a chore or carrying a message to someone important. But it was Carda who raised him, Carda who was his mother in every way he really needed. He grew up happy, an only foster for the first seven turns of his life before gaining two little foster sisters who honed his sense of care and responsibility. And when the time came for him to choose if he wanted to become a candidate, he did so, with the support of his foster-mother behind him.
But then Carda died suddenly. One minute he was going about his day, sitting in class and doing chores as normal, and then the next, he was in a tailspin, trying to process the news that his beloved mother was just _gone_. They said it must have been something with the heart, or the brain, and that she didn’t suffer, but it didn’t matter -- his world was shattered in an instant.
Shocked, struggling, and in pain, Nijen found it hard to focus on anything. He muddled through, but he wasn’t really _living_ -- not the way he always had before. He felt empty, and longed for something to fill the mother-shaped void in his heart. More and more, he found himself wondering about his _other_ mother, the one who had birthed him. Did she feel anything for him? Would she be sad that he was sad? Would she even care?
It was these thoughts that led him to follow her to Dolphin Cove, where Nidre had recently transferred to take up the Weyrwoman’s Second position. Even if she rejected him, he reasoned, maybe the change would do him good. Maybe seeing something new, other than all the places that reminded him of his loss, would help him to move past it and move on with his life.

Dragon's Name: Falgryth
Dragon's Age: 0
Dragon's Hatching Date: m10 d15
Dragon's Colour: Blue
Description of Dragon:
From the moment of hatching, Falgryth has a bit of a curious look to him that’s hard to put your finger on. It may take a bit of consideration to realize that the issue is that, despite his hatchling size, he doesn’t look much like a hatchling at all. Aside from just the barest little bit of baby fat that will melt away quickly, he’s pretty much adult Falgryth shrunk down in miniature, and his growth will reflect that -- he’ll grow at an even pace, relatively free from the awkward spurts that some of his clutchmates will experience. He’ll remain a large blue, relatively muscular and a bit top-heavy, with a short muzzle, short headknobs, and prominent jowls. His hide is a bold royal blue, with a somewhat paler patch under his chin, on his cheeks, and partway down his throat.
Falgryth is what you might call a blustery dragon -- bold, loud, and full of good-natured swagger. He has absolute confidence in himself and fears very little, even when he probably should. In fact, he’s positively invigorated by the idea of facing the unknown, particularly if he has to brave danger in order to do so. He’s generally friendly, positive, and encouraging, but he doesn’t seem to understand the concept of restraint or the use of an “inside” voice, whether that be his mindvoice or his physical vocalizations. While he’s capable of being a good follower, he needs a dragon with a stronger personality to step up and take definitive charge, or else he’s prone to stepping into the role himself without a second thought, and may unintentionally run right over a leader who doesn’t assert himself enough.
