Crayon Awards: Favorite New Male Persona (August 2025)
Physical Description of Persona:
Viantico describes himself as shades of brown all over. He has dark brown eyes, medium brown hair, and skin tanned to light brown. He is very early on in puberty, so he’s short and with slim and gangly proportions, tripping over himself as he gets used to limbs that feel like they’re changing on him. With access to ample weyr food and as puberty continues, he’s likely to become bulky, and as an adult he will become one of those short and stocky brick type people. He’s constantly fidgeting with various things on his person.
Emotional Description of Persona:
Viantico is A Lot of energy in one very small shell. This means he’s always full of racing thoughts, a mixture of observations about the world that he’s seeing around him and existential questions. He has always been curious, but growing up in the cothold limited his possibilities. He really likes being around people, and tends to be a chatterbox who will blurt out whatever he is thinking and has a poor brain to mouth filter, definitely speaking before he thinks if he should, and is a big gossip.
His flaws include that often he goes from talking with people to talking at them instead. He’s not the best at reading the more subtle clues that other people are tired of being around him and want him to be quiet. When he is told off, he will shrink into himself and try not to burst into tears; disapproval really stings, especially from people he’s trying to impress.
History of Persona:
Viantico is the youngest of five children at a small cothold in Dolphin Cove Weyr’s territory. He grew up with an awareness that he was never going to amount to anything other than being a fieldhand. His oldest brother would inherit the cothold, and get to run it from the indoors, and marry a woman to oversee all the domestic duties. His sister would marry off and leave. His brothers would keep toiling the fields, raising the roots and sending them off. The family had no money to apprentice anyone to a Craft, even if his father could be convinced it was a good idea to spare a body needed for the fields. And, as the youngest, even if someone could be spared to go, surely it wouldn’t be him. Even if he was a fast learner, and curious about the world, and…
The only person who seemed to care that Viantico didn’t want to be a fieldhand, that he really passionately wanted to leave the cothold and apprentice to a Craft like the Smithcraft, was his older brother Vytian. So, naturally, Viantico bonded strongest to Vytian. He looked up to his brother like he was a Lord Holder, and loved to try to do whatever his brother was doing. It was devastating to him when Vytian was Searched and he was not, and they were separated. But at least he’d get to go to the Hatching and see his brother Impress his bronze, and then maybe his brother could come back for him, right?
Then Vytian Impressed to a green, his father dragged them home immediately, and worked up the cothold into spewing nothing but poison about males who were Deviants. Viantico had to juggle his own feelings over the next few months… everything their father and anyone else at the cothold had ever said or was still saying about male greenriders being awful, versus how his brother was the best person on Pern. But then his brother never came back. The second dragon Viantico ever saw was a different Search dragon. When this one chose him, he finally stood up to his father long enough to convince him that he was going to the Weyr no matter what. Somehow, it worked, and he went off to the Weyr in search of freedom to do many things. Like become an apprentice Smith, and reunite with his brother.
He Impressed at his very first hatching to brown Thazareth, and is so flushed with the joy of it he has no idea what the color difference is going to mean to his relationship with his brother and his family.

Dragon's Name: Thazareth
Dragon's Age: 0
Dragon's Hatching Date: m10 d5
Dragon's Colour: Brown
Description of Dragon:
Thazareth is a sturdy, dust-toned brown, his hide the color of sunbaked stone and ancient earth -- matte and weathered like something uncovered after a long dig. Shades of ochre and clay dust scatter across his flanks and wing joints, as if he’s been walking through dry riverbeds and forgotten ruins. There’s a grounded stillness to the way he carries himself, as though he were carved from the same sediment he resembles, and his build is solid and imposing even at a young age, with a heavy chest and powerful wings that hint at endurance over speed. He moves with deliberate weight, each step placed with purpose, giving the impression of a dragon who doesn’t rush because he doesn’t need to. Even young, he gives the impression of age -- not in turns, but in permanence: a living relic with the strength of something built to last.
Thazareth is a steady, no-nonsense brown with a grounded presence that feels far older than his turns. Serious-minded from hatching, he has little patience for foolishness, idle chatter, or dramatics -- especially from younger dragons or overly enthusiastic weyrlings. He’s disciplined and deeply focused, with an instinct for order and a quiet but firm voice that often ends up steering others whether he means to or not. Leadership comes naturally to him, not because he seeks it, but because others gravitate toward his calm authority and unshakable sense of purpose. He’s not without warmth, but it’s the understated kind -- measured, earned, and often hidden beneath a dry, sometimes exasperated tone. Serious in his friendships as well as intensely private about matters of the heart, Thazareth is reluctantly sweet beneath his gruff, logic-driven exterior. To him, all bonds are sacred and binding, anchored in truths he'd rather reflect through his actions than his words. For Viantico, bright-eyed and eager, Thazareth is both anchor and reality check: a lifemate who challenges him to grow up fast, and who reminds him -- with grim, good-humored clarity -- that riding a dragon might be a dream, but flaming Thread is still deadly business.
