Zaidi

Name: Zaidi
Pronunciation: ZAY - dee
Age: 12
Birthday: m7 d21
Rank: Junior Weyrling
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr

Physical Description of Persona:
Tiny. Zaidi is quite petite for her age, in height and build. She looks about a Turn or two younger than her true age, and while that would be preferable were she a few decades older, it is frustrating to no end at twelve. While it’s too early to say whether she'll grow to be a great beauty, or turn out to be plain, right now she is a cute little thing with glinting brown eyes and a smattering of freckles dusted wherever the sun reaches. Her skin is a medium olive tone, neither prone to burns and - thus far - unmarred by acne or scars. Her ears are slightly too big to be in proportion with the rest of her features and her face is still round with youth and will be slow to thin despite her skinny little arms and knobby knees.

A mass of reddish brown curls falls just past her shoulders, with a tendency to frizz out wild around her if she doesn't work long enough to tame it into a braid. It tangles easily, frequently, and quite badly. She tries to keep it away from her face without much success, the new growth often forming a soft diaphanous halo around her face.

With a precocious, if sweet energy, Zaidi is very much a tomboy in her style, though she loves to turn her big brown eyes up to the nearest person in charge if they're ever in need of a little extra convincing.

Emotional Description of Persona:
A veritable chatterbox, around people she knows Zaidi is outspoken and pleasant and bursting with things to say. She’s all about enjoying the world, jabbering and planning things to do with rarely an end to her ideas, and listening, well, that just takes too much time sometimes. Failure isn’t something she knows quite what to do with yet; she’s yet to encounter the true difficulties in the world, and for Zaidi that’s left her confident but ignorant of just what she can or can’t do.

Around people she doesn’t know, Zaidi tends to be quite reserved, and since arriving at the Weyr that is often her default mode. She’s a little sponge, and when trying to make sense of things - from strange new people to bizarre new ideas - she’s got better listening ears than when she’s in familiar settings. It may speak to some modicum of intellect that Zaidi knows to listen more than she speaks when it’s truly _necessary_, and that's because she very much wants to get things right. Everyone seems so much older, so much further ahead, and so much more knowledgeable that it can be a little intimidating to know where she fits at all times, to feel like she belongs, and although she doesn’t like staying in her shell she often retreats to it when overwhelmed.

Zaidi is a sweet, sensitive girl, though does have quite a temper when pushed, and for someone so small she’s got an impressive set of pipes on her. Sums are notoriously difficult and she doesn't enjoy reading in the slightest. Given the chance, she much prefers socializing and exploring and tearing around the land discovering the next great find or exciting adventure. Unsurprisingly at her age, Zaidi is not particularly fluent in hard work and applying oneself - and despite being eager to learn she doesn’t like having to sit around and actually, well… learn.

History of Persona:
Born in a small cothold bursting with extended family, Zaidi is one of seven children born to her parents, and one of forty-six grandchildren all crammed in under half a dozen roofs. Affluence has never set foot in their part of the world, but they rarely wanted for the necessities, and their tight bonds ensured there was never a shortage of love to go around.

Her parents being farmers meant everyone had to pitch in, but it left quite a few gaps in Zaidi’s exposure to the world and her education. Being so young and terribly small she was often given the easy things to do and allowed to run off with her younger siblings without much supervision. On one such day, when she and two of her brothers were gallivanting through the woods, they saw the _craziest_ thing fly overhead. No one believed that a dragon would ever fly so close to their forgotten little peninsula on Pern, especially without Thread falling. But they had to chew their words up and swallow them when just a few hours later that same green landed _at_their_cothold_.

Imagine young Zaidi’s surprise and her parents’ and grandparents’ pride when _she_ was selected as part of the Weyr’s Search for candidates. Imagine her face when she climbed aboard a living, breathing, fire-breathing dragon and rose above her home and got sucked /between/ for the first time in her life and ended up at Dolphin Cove, the land of thousands upon thousands (or at least in her eyes) of dragons.

Once the crazy thrill wore off and she started to realize she was _all_alone_ in a newly terrifying and rather confusing place, she started to sing a slightly different tune. Since then Zaidi’s been trying to adapt as best she can, but secretly she knows if she doesn’t Impress one of Jossenth’s babies she’s going to beg and plead as much as it takes for someone to just… take her back home, please. Oh, and thank you.

Dragon's Name: Bharboth
Dragon's Age: 0
Dragon's Hatching Date: m10 d15
Dragon's Colour: Green
Description of Dragon:
Not exactly the most striking of her color, Bharboth is a mottled, swampy shade of green that can't quite be bothered to shine. A little more dull chartreuse in some lights, and a good deal less lustrous in others, but always uniformly swamp. There's almost a trick to her hide; a level of subtle variation has mottled its way down her broad head, thick body, and hard angles, and makes it almost impossible to pinpoint any particular stretch of her hide. It’ll be a point of particular soreness she grows, making it near-impossible to identify any dry patches and problem areas unless under surgically sharp light. Large even as a hatchling, she’ll be as big as the smaller browns for the first few months of her life, and try to use that to her fullest advantage. Fully-grown, Bharboth will top off well within range of an average blue.

Big and blustery, Bharboth is a powerful presence, a portentous partner. There’s enough brute and lumbering force behind her personality to match her blocky exterior, and even as a hatchling she has an innate command of both. Her level of physicality is at its most primal, with little finesse and her base instincts rarely still. She has a knack for what needs to be done, when, and just how it should happen. An intensely driven dragon, Bharboth is also ambitious to her core. She doesn’t mind doing the work to get there. But she doesn’t possess much in the way of a code - everything is simply a matter of how intensely she’s willing to leverage to get something she really wants, not a matter exclusive of duty. Though soft-hearted and good-intentioned deep down, she’s practical enough to not dwell on whether she’s as sleek or as graceful or serpentine as other greens. That’s fine. She has better things to do than flirt. But the idea of being inept, or unable to do something the same as her peers is enough to send her into hysterics. She wants the best. She wants to _be_ the best, and not getting her way leaves her grumpy and singularly self-centred for days.
