Physical Description of Persona:
Diara is 5’ 4,” with straight black hair, dark brown eyes, and olive colored skin that tans well. She will periodically cut her hair chin length, then let it grow for a Turn or so, until she gets annoyed by it and cuts it again.

She takes after her biological father’s side more than her mother’s, with almond shaped eyes, a slightly upturned nose, and full lips. However, two features that come from her mother are her left-handedness and ears with tiny earlobes.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Diara respects authority but, whenever peers or family suggest that she do something, her first inclination is to do the opposite. This caused her Dads lots of grief when she was younger and has gotten her into some tricky situations. While she has gotten better at suppressing that automatic contrariness, it is still a work in process.

She does not think much of holdbred Candidates that, in her view, take too long to adjust to weyrlife. J’nic would be saddened to know that his frequent comments about how important it is to support holdbred Candidates and weyrlings have just made her think that those who need so much additional support should leave the Weyr. She won’t be openly hostile but does not have much of an interest in getting to know anyone who she thinks is not cut out for life at a Weyr.

Diara already had her life planned out at the age of 10. While she is comfortable with that plan changing over time, moments that force a change are unsettling until she has created a new plan. The uncertainty of Impression almost caused her to apprentice as a healer rather than a dragonhealer. However, at 12, it seemed she would have plenty of time to wait for her green dragonet to hatch, so she went ahead with her preference.

When she isn’t being stubborn, looking down on holdbred people, or planning her life, Diara likes to keep busy. She feels happiest when she’s doing something that feels productive, whether that’s running, swimming, or studying. She also finds completing jigsaw puzzles very satisfying, even though she can rarely get her hands on a new one.

History of Persona:
Diara doesn’t remember much about her mother, Derala, a greenrider who died in Threadfall during the first Turn of the Pass. Diara was five and was immediately adopted by her uncle, J’nic, who became Da, and his weyrmate Sellek, who she calls Pa.

She has a good relationship with her biological father, a bluerider named D’lin. He is a journeyman dragonhealer and she has been fascinated with the craft for Turns. She apprenticed as soon as she could and then became a Candidate at 14. While Candidacy slowed down her craft progression, she became a senior apprentice soon before her seventeenth birthingday.

When her Dads transferred to Barrier Lake Weyrhold, at first Diara thought she would follow. However, the dread of starting over in a new location, combined with feeling pressure from her Dads to go with her, led to her digging in her feet. Now, while she misses seeing them every day, she’s pretty comfortable at Dragonsfall and doesn’t currently have any plans to move.

Realizing they would be in different Weyrs for at least the near future, J’nic and Sellek were able to obtain a firelizard egg for Diara. It hatched into a pale powder blue, who is a good message carrier. His name is inspired in part by the name Diara called J’nic’s green, Raileth, when she was little: Riri.

Zori knows he needs to stay out of the way during lessons and when Diara is working with the dragonhealers. However, he has been known to steal small items left out by other Candidates, which Diara then needs to return.
