Persona Profile: I'serin

Writer: Halyonix

Name: I'serin
Pronunciation: Eye-ser-in
Age: 34
Birthday: m12 d17
Rank: Weyrleader.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Face Claim: Robert Aramayo

Physical Description of Persona:
Despite Turns as a dragonrider, I’serin quite hasn’t fleshed out in the same way as most. His wiry appearance and high tenor voice lends an odd boyish aura to him, despite his 5’11 height. His eyes are hazel and his hair is a thick reddish brown. Most people are shocked to find out he’s over thirty. I’serin smiles with the left side of his mouth. While not in Gather finery, he always seems to be dressed as though he’s meeting someone important. Most of his wardrobe is neutral earthen colors.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Pretentious might be the word that comes to mind when most people meet I’serin. He’s aloof, reserved, especially when first meeting others. Combined with the bronze dragon behind him, most people assume that he’s just being a lofty bronzerider. He’s not…he’s just -- thinking. Learning. Adjusting. I’serin moves through life with an open mindset because he’s learned that life is far more complicated than it initially presents. He doesn’t want to make the wrong decision, anger someone, etc. He’s very careful about his words and actions. His strengths are big-picture thinking and calm leadership, though he can suffer from decision paralysis on big things. And when it comes to romance, I’serin is nearly frigid with fear about how to act.

This is not to say that I’serin doesn’t know how to have fun or relax. His favorite places in the world are Halls with all of their information and exploring continents for places filled with adrenaline. He loves diving off cliffs into the ocean, Aluneth diving beside him, or savoring good food and better conversation. He dislikes small talk and people unexpectedly encroaching on his personal space. I’serin is easily the friend you come to late at night for advice since he’s probably up late reading anyway. His anger, when finally sparked, is verbally loud -- slow to unleash, slow to simmer down. But most of his friends will say that they deeply appreciate how he gives different perspectives to situations and can be relied upon. I’serin prefers male sexual partners but understands that having a bronze means his duty to the Weyr leadership.

History of Persona:
Having a bronzerider for a father made that a little difficult but the expectations A’len pressed upon young Ioraserin and his younger brother Alisoren were tempered by the warmth of Isoria. I’serin credits her as teaching him empathy and kindness, whereas his father taught him critical thinking and politics. Somewhere along the way he discovered the treasure trove of books, which helped him keep out of trouble after chores.

Ioraserin developed a bit of a hot streak in his teenage Turns, spouting off opinions about River Bluff Weyr leadership and decisions that earned him a few backhand swipes. Isoria took her growing son in check more, making him work with her in the infirmary, hoping it would learn him manners. It did, eventually, but only because he began to see other peoples’ points of view. Seeing their stories against the backdrop of Weyr politics taught Ioraserin that Pern was a very complicated place. Looking back, I’serin also attributes some of this angst to him figuring out his sexuality and being rejected at Hatchings. Typical teenage problems, he’d say, but he knows that he was difficult.

Needless to say, when he was eighteen and Aluneth cracked his shell. I’serin was ecstatic, looking forward to the adventure that he and Aluneth were beginning.

They remember the day Thread returned.

The prepared yet idyllic life that dragonriders had been leading was now gone. Red Star had returned and the battle was enjoined. At twenty-two, I’serin was up there, learning to fight for his life and the future of Pern. It was then that he was most grateful for his parents’ lessons. His next decade was spent working hard to ensure that he and Aluneth rose to the challenge of their presumed rank.

It would have stayed that way, methodically working their way towards Wingleader, had River Bluff Weyr not collapsed.

All of I’serin’s family managed to escape but the horror of watching his home crumble, knowing that there were many that hadn’t made it to safety…

The next few Turns, I’serin was riddled with survivor’s guilt. And nightmares. He found some comfort in the reformed Weyr in a Wing at Dragonsfall Weyr but he would continue to struggle to find his unassailable footing once again. He thought that it would happen in increments, in slowly working his way up the ranks, but in early T12, Aluneth caught Chioneth, thrusting them into the position of Weyrleader of Dragonsfall.

Family and Friends
A'len, 60, Bronzerider of Tirenth (father)
Isoria, 55, Healer (mother)
A'soren, 30, Brownrider of Immanith (brother)

Dragon's Name: Aluneth
Dragon's Age: 16
Dragon's Colour: Bronze
Description of Dragon:
Aluneth has a coppery sheen to his bronze hide that really shows up in the sunlight. His wingsails are the color of lightly burnished sand. He is on the larger side of bronze dragons and far more stocky in proportion than his rider.

If I'serin is careful not to offend, Aluneth is not. He can be caustic and pretentious. He knows that he is a bronze dragon, suited to lead, but has yet to learn patience with chromatic dragons. While he has begrudgingly learned some etiquette, you will not find him sunning in the company of chatty greens.
