Physical Description of Persona:
There’s nothing striking about B’nell’s features but nothing unattractive either. He sits right in the middle, at an unassuming 5'5 and a build that could be called stocky since trim won't quite work. His hair is light nut brown, softer as it grows out, but he never lets it get in his eyes anymore. On adventurous days, he might style it but it's usually covered with a hat when he isn't working, with little strands of it poking out. His skin doesn't tan, just burns, so B'nell is rather pale on that front. On the surface, the most expressive thing about him is his eyes: a hazel or amber coloring, depending on who you ask, that is only visible in sunlight. Else, B'nell looks like he has dark eyes that absorb everything. Speaking, B'nell has a soft tenor voice but singing, he ranges from baritone to falsetto with ease. He seems to take on new life when singing too, smiling, snapping, and dancing. Most evenings, he can be seen wearing glasses to read or write.

Emotional Description of Persona:
"Unexpected" is the term that B'nell uses to describe his life. An introvert forced into the spotlight at the oddest periods, he isn't one to crumple under pressure, though he stresses about it constantly. He doesn't like to let anyone down, including himself. Because of this, B'nell lives a life in constant struggling balance, between his happiness and what's expected of him. Tip the scales too much and a normally quiet man turns into an object-throwing monster, but for the most part, B'nell likes to keep his emotions in check. Most people would describe him as quiet and unassuming. He's fine with that. B'nell thinks that he's often oblivious to things because he's always thinking about something else, which is also why lots of people just think he's lost or not paying attention. A lot is going on in his head.

He regrets that his dragonrider duties have taken him away from his first love (music) but he tries to make time for it whenever he can. B'nell is a one-lover sort of man but so extremely shy that everything assumes he prefers to be alone. He likes to keep a close group of a select group of friends and within that group, he opens up and is quite entertaining, displaying a wit and intelligence that usually just stays in his head.

History of Persona:
Barnell grew up at Harper Hall and he’ll say that’s the only way he made it through his parents’ separation at the age of eight. The music saved him, first giving him something to distract his young mind, and later giving him an outlet for those feelings. He couldn’t wait to be an official apprentice. When he was finally able to begin at the age of thirteen, he was the pudgy kid with glasses in the back of the room, furiously working on his notes and pieces. He didn’t care if he was picked on -- he just wanted the music.

No one was surprised when he walked the tables at nineteen. Some people joked about what took him so long. But what was truly surprising was how he ended up with Vorath. Barnell never wanted to be a Candidate, even after the dragons Searched him. He knew he would have to give up what he loved most and there was so much going on within the Harper Hall itself. And he had no desire to fight Thread! But what got him on the Sands was half bet, half peer pressure: it won’t hurt to Stand for one and bet you won’t Stand. Thinking that he’d never Impress, that he’d just go back to what he was doing the next day, Barnell agreed.

Barnell had made it through most of the Hatching, hiding in the back as usual, thinking that he would be free to walk out at any moment, when Vorath ambled up to him and changed everything.

Twenty and now a dragonrider, B'nell found himself in a whole new world that he hadn't expected. Music took a backseat and B'nell developed a fear that he would never sing or play again. Weyrlinghood was rougher on him than most because of this, even though he tried to alleviate it by singing during chores. He missed Harper Hall keenly.

Once free from weyrlinghood, B'nell encountered a new set of fears and stresses, though now he had more free time to play music. His efforts to be a good dragonrider meant that Wingleaders looked upon him as reliable, knowledgeable, and levelheaded. B'nell secretly hated the extra attention. But every time he tried to fade into the background, there was something there to force him back out into the world. His skills ended up putting him on the list of riders who would be suited to work in the Queens’ Wing, which worked out for him because less chance of Thread but scared him still because what if one day he actually had to lead? Still, he didn’t think he should shy away from the honor, especially with a mounting sense of his dragonrider duty.

Family and Friends
Barrist, 66, Senior journeyman harper (father)
Nellissa, 61, Senior journeywoman harper (mother)

Dragon's Name: Vorath
Dragon's Age: 11
Dragon's Hatching Date: m7 d13
Dragon's Colour: Brown
Description of Dragon:
Vorath is a rusty brown dragon, on the medium-large size. He has an old Threadscore on the left side of his neck from their first Turn flying Thread. His ridges have a coppery highlight to them in some places.

If B'nell is shy, Vorath is the opposite. While the dragon loves his alone time, he also loves to make friends and has no problem with (physically) shoving B'nell into a conversation. He doesn't sing when B'nell does but he does love all types of music.
