Neath's waking thoughts hit G'wen like a thunderbolt. *What the...?** he had
time to think before she screamed loudly, both in his head and into the
icy sky, and flew over the bowl and onto the back of the nearest
herdbeast. Giving his friends at the breakfast table a startled
look, he dropped his toast and ran out of the cavern and into the bowl just
in time to see her rip the throat out of the pinned animal under her.
She's getting ready for her flight, his scared mind made out, just
before T'bel ran up behind him.

Taking the smaller lad by the elbow and all but throwing him towards
the glowing green, he said, "she's Rising! Now get that terrified
look off your face and make sure she doesn't eat that poor herdbeast!"

"But..." G'wen turned to his da's weyrmate and grabbed his tunic
front. "But I'm not ready! I'm still injured and I don't feel good
yet."

"Too bad, she does. Now be a man and get to it!" He disengaged
G'wen's hands from his shirt and threw the boy in Neath's direction.

Wringing his hands, the boy mentally battled with the huge green
before she obeyed and blooded her kill. Screaming at the males who
had begun to descend, she hopped into the air once more to take down
another herdbeast. All the while G'wen watched her glowing hide and
wondered how and why she went so suddenly into heat. She hadn't been
the least bit proddy before this..what had happened? He could still
feel his back hurting a bit in the cold morning air and sighed at the
unfairness that his green would chose to do this to him, at this time.
And where was E'naer? He didn't want some other man touching him but
the older greenrider. He only wanted to be for him, not for any other
lover. Tears were running down his face but he made no move to stop
them.

**Aw, Branth, you can't be serious.** W'ser groaned, fingers sliding
through his hair as he rocked back in his chair. The Weyrdragonhealer
was tucked away in his office working on some hides, as usual, and the
last thing he needed was a mating flight. And, of course, not just any
flight, but a flight with G'wen. Now, G'wen was a nice boy and
everything, but W'ser was still a brownrider to the marrow of his soul
and nothing made it easier waking up to a man.

}:Neath would make for a fiery mate to be sure. I think I will catch
her.:{ Branth told his rider even as he prepared himself, watching the
green blood.

"Ah shells," P'nal grumbled after he put up his hides. The brownrider saw
the dragon in his mind's eye and he knew immediately who it was and what
it meant. He had tried to stay away from this particular mess of trouble and
he remembered what J'darin had told him.

}:The dragons decide, though, don't they?:{ Jodeth threw in his face as his
eyes followed Neath's progress, feeling the heat begin in his loins. The
brown settled himself and made ready to go up after her.

D'ale's fork stopped halfway to his mouth at the rukus outside.
Torerath stirred and he ran to the lip of his weyr. **Who?** }:Neath:{
was the immediate reply.

The brownrider could feel the brown's interest but he shook his head.
"No," he said firmly and threw on the harness. "We're leaving."
Torerath didn't like that much but there were times when his rider had
taken him away before. "That boy is too much my son's friend and....
just no." He climbed aboard and in a wink they were gone from
Dragonsfall's skies.

Imalkyth heard the scream and followed her down to the pens. }:She
glows!:{ **Yes she glows** chuckled K'ale. Not that he particularly
wanted to be there with his friend but he couldn't refuse Imalkyth his
chance.

Julerith's instant attention and alert mind warned the bluerider
before the sending came. When it did come, though, he almost took the
blue out of the Weyr. G'wen was his friend, lovable sure, but he had
never been too attracted to the younger ones, boy or girl. The
younglings reminded him far too strongly of his sister, and he was
unable to separate them from his memories of her.

}:But she is lovely! I will catch her! I deserve her! :{ Julerith
was sending 'loudly'.

**Oh alright!!** At least if Julerith caught Neath, G'wen would be
assured of a nice flight. Better him than a brownrider for sure!

And soon, they were down in the crowd, Julerith shrieking his defiance
to the other males. This one would be his!

G'nir was just enough time to send Hygalia a word that their
discussion was canceled with Nirreth deciding to chase some green.
When he came to the feeding grounds and saw who the green was, he
frowned. **Not this flight** It was that obnoxious green and the boy,
who seemed to end up on report on his desk all the time.

}: Yes, this flight. I like her. She is spirited and strong-willed and
beautiful.:{ Nirreth was already committed and G'nir realized it was
too late try to pull him off the flight. G'nir scowled the other men
and crossed his arms.

Sh'lua has no problems with this flight, he almost never had. Only
exceptions were relatives and gold flights and Galerith thankfully
knew his limits. Golds were out of his reach, even if he was a big
blue.

Slow smiled spread to the bluerider's face. Now, he might get to
finish what was started that night after the visit to tavern. Without
anyone slamming into his weyr.

G'wen watched the faces around him, feeling as vulnerable as any point
in his young life. No one seemed pleased to be there, not even people
he knew. Crossing his arms over his chest he dropped his eyes and
stepped back away from some of the more forward men. When Neath
dropped onto a third herdbeast he sighed, just wanting this all over.

}:Neath!:{ crooned Ornigeth as he watched the green dispatch a
herdbeast. }:You know my rider wants yours, so let me fly with you.:{

F'neb gave G'wen a big grin as he arrived. It was meant as reassurance, and
he was hoping that the greenrider would take it that way.

The boy looked so scared that Sh'lua wanted to hug him. "Don't worry
lad, just relax and everything will go well," he called encouragingly.

Sh'lua's voice carried to G'wen--along with the reassuring site of
F'neb smiling-- just as Neath seemed to glow even more. She raised
her head from the slaughtered animal under her and stared hard at the
males, as if counting them. More than a few bronzes and browns, along
with plenty of blues where there to beg for her. She screamed
defiance at them before, in a flash that took her lifemate's breath
away, she was up and flying swiftly away from the Weyr. T'bel stepped
forward to guide G'wen into the Flight room but the boy was one with his
dragon, flying away from all the negativity around him.

And like a shot, Jodeth was there behind her. The brown wasn't as fast
as those blues, but they didn't have much on him. Her trail across the sky
made him tingle all over. His wingtips sliced through the air, pushing his
way past some of the other larger dragons.

Ornigeth was determined to be there. He was craftily biding his time,
following Neath. The blue knew that the bigger dragons might not be able to
match him for sheer speed, even if they had the cunning.

Nirreth shot off after the green. }: She's mine! :{ he declared his
challenge to the other males.

}: Phwt, how about letting the lady choose? :{ Galerith snorted and
retorted back to the bronze.

Imalkyth launched with the rest and snarled at another brown who came
too close. His wings pounded the air after the green beauty and he
jockeyed for position among the pack of dragons chasing her. }:Neath:{
he called and K'ale followed along after G'wen.

Friend or no, that was too close for the lad. Reaching out he pushed
K'ale back hard. No one was having him until Neath was ready.

The green soared on a thermal, not wasting any breath for taunts.
They all knew where she was, she didn't have to tease them any more.
She just wanted to get as high in the sky before being caught. And
being such a large size for a green meant she wasn't about to tire
soon like so many of her sisters did. Already she could see a few
small blues begin to weary and drop back.

Jodeth ignored Imalkyth. He would do whatever he pleased. His flying
was not a lesson in finesse, but rather a picture of single-mindedness.
She was climbing. That meant she was getting ready to fall. Seeing the
prize so close in his mind, Jodeth continued to fly, now outlasting the
blues and some browns that began to head back to the Weyr.

Ornigeth was not going to drop out, not when he could see the beautiful
green ahead of him. She would be his, that thought echoing between rider and
dragon, spurring each other on.

Branth's flying was smooth and even, his motto being that "steady
would win the race", or in this even, catch the green. The brown
called out to the soaring green in a caressing bugle that promised her
a great flight should she give him the honor of catching her. Being a
brown in the flight didn't give Branth as much agility and quickness
as some of the smaller, blue dragons, but he had stamina and strength.

Neath ducked her head under her wing, sizing up the males. Amongst
the highest ranking males were the three big prizes still in the
chase, the Dragonhealer's brown, the Weyrleader's second and Nirreth
himself. Any of them would make a fine first mate and would raise her
status in her own eyes. But then again Ornigeth and Galerith and
Julerith were friends and their riders would take care of her's. And
Ima was a fine strong brown; he would make a leader one day. Who
should she choose?

Galerith slipped past the bronzes and to the front row of the chasers.
His size and experience gave him the advantage. Besides, both he and
his rider really wanted to catch this green!

He saw her peeking and Jodeth couldn't help but respond. His ichor
was boiling and she had captured his mind and body. Little green
creature of seduction she was, weyrling or not. He would be her first.
He would teach her how good it could be. Feeling as if his hearts would
burst if he didn't have her, the brown stuck his neck out underneath
the blues. }:Little one, don't be afraid:{

}:I will be there like my rider is for yours,:{ Ornigeth told Neath. }:Trust
in me.:{

Branth was still flying strong, his endurance and stamina keeping him
near the green at all times, }:Come, Neath, let me take you on this
flight.:{ The brown's voice was rich and smooth, with just a touch of
persuasion as he flew along side her, hopeful that the beautiful green
would choose him over the remaining dragons.

}:You can't have anyone better than me, I'm the Weyrleader's bronze!
:{ Nirreth resorted to bit of boasting.

}:Beautiful Neath:{ crooned Imalkyth from the middle of the pack. He
struggled to free himself from the others but he was neatly boxed in.
He was young and vigorous but inexperienced and it showed. K'ale felt
himself shouldered farther and farther away from his friend.

Neath heard her friend and sighed. He was simply too shut in by the
others to choose. She snorted at the boasts from Nirreth. It was her
choice if he was the best or not. And Ornigeth could think his rider
was there for her's but that wouldn't explain why they lived
with another most definitely not her lifemate and her.

And Jodeth! Calling her small?! She groaned at that, being she
wasn't all that much smaller in size than him. That's when she felt a
twinge, a small stab of fear from her G'wen. He was terrified of
being hurt.

That was all she needed.

She may have desired above all else to have what the golds had and
choose a bronze but more than anything, she loved her lifemate. Doing
right by him, she spun on wingtip and dropped just before Galerith.

}:Yours will take care of mine. I choose you, Galerith!:{

}: Thank you, lovely lady, :{ Galerith replied and quickly claimed his
prize. Sh'lua didn't hesitate to do the same.

G'nir was actually relieved when Nirreth turned back to Weyr.

Julerith crooned his disappointment as Neath chose Galerith, he had
been in the running until that last minute choice by the lovely green.
She was so beautiful. On the ground, N'klar came back to himself a
bit and shook off his intense concentration. He would have cared for
- and enjoyed it - G'wen, but, instead, he turned to find a willing
partner for the evening to relieve his own frustrated desires.

G'wen felt himself melt into Neath, and into Sh'lua, becoming one with
dragon and rider.
