Arranging a wedding two sevendays after the acceptance of a proposal
had been an utter nightmare, but Lord Bryvin had been insistent.
Yriadha half wondered if it was because the Conclave was insisting
upon Bryvin upholding the agreement for his status or if it was
because he wanted to partake of his betrothed. She reasoned it might
be both; the young woman was certainly to his taste and she imagined
it was difficult for him to stop at a few sweet kisses.

She stood back, heading the staff as they fell in line to witness the
Lord Holder's nuptials take place. Some faces of the visitors she
recognized. Asaile's family and her mother stood proudly beside, Lord
Rorigraff, Asaile's grandfather. He'd recognized her, of course, but
only inclined his head as she'd given an obligatory curtsey. There was
also Lady Tarani's parents and Lady Noriya's as well, though they
appeared a bit more sour in expression. Bitter fruits, Yriadha
thought.

All were appreciative of the decorations, Sunstone's teal and orange
mingled but dominant over Crimson Cliff's red and silver. Brina had
outdone herself in the short amount of time and even Yriadha was
impressed. Heavy blooms decorated each table of the main hall,
tapestries were freshly cleaned and hung with pride, and a thick
carpet of fine weaving trailed up the center to the groom. The scents
of food, delicate pastries, fresh breads, and hearty choice cuts of
meat added to the ambience of celebration.

Asaile appeared at the end of the Hall, her arm on her father's. The
gown she wore spoke of the wealth of her family and the pride they had
in her match. It was a deep crimson velvet, slashed with opulent
metallic silver embroidery around the bodice and overskirt, with
flaring sleeves and a deeply tailored veed waist that accented a very
slender waist. Though it could have overwhelmed her, weavercrafters
had worked swiftly, adjusting the fit so that instead of being
overwhelmed by the heavy fabric, Asaile's delicate frame was accented
and accentuated. Her pale skin glowed in contrast to the rich red, her
brown hair caught by up in a fine netting. The netting also symbolized
the joining of the two houses; pearls from Sunstone's shores and the
tiny rubies that Crimson Cliff was known for sparkled in her hair and
was the only adornment she wore except for the single ring that Bryvin
had gifted her upon his proposal.

Asaile, walked lightly beside her father, but scarcely saw the crowd.
Her pulse pattered in her neck and chest as her eyes found Lord Bryvin
standing and waiting for her. Her face flushed as their eyes met and
she cast her gaze down, but happiness radiated from her cheeks; there
was no hesitation in her steps as her father approached Lord Bryvin
and solemnly handed him his daughter's hand.

Bryvin's eyes glowed as Asaile appeared and floated toward him on her
father's arm. He'd expected red from her hold colors and so had
himself worn a deep Teal with a brocaded vest and his silver chain of
office was set with carnelian and teal sapphires. His velvet coat was
of figured velvet and obviously the work of a master weaver.

He took her hand from her father and turned to face the Harper. He
gently squeezed her fingers feeling the eyes of the hold and the other
witness who'd come to confirm his marriage once again to a blooded
young lady as demanded of him by the Conclave. He'd stretched out that
teather as long as he could but they had been firm. But he didn't
blame Asaile. She was the best of the young ladies who'd come to
foster and he was actually quite happy to marry her today. He lifted
his chin and nodded at the Harper to begin.

Jovanten smiled at the couple before him. "Welcome Milord, and also to you
my lady. It's a truly happy occasion to officiate over your wedding today."
And with a smile for the Asaile he continued, "And, if I may say my lady, if
I weren't happily married myself, I'd be giving Lord Bryvin here a run for
his marks, but I can see that I wouldn't stand a chance at all."

The young Weyrwoman's second from Barrier Lake was sat with the rest of the
noble guests, as the lady appeared on her father's arm, she sighed softly.
It looked like the happy ending scene of one of those harper tales she was
so fond of.

As the harper spoke, Lord Zathris, of Amber Hills, reached down and
took Benani's hand, giving it a light squeeze. Attending weddings
always made him relive the moment when he had married the daughter of
Benaroy. He hadn't realized then just exactly how lucky he was in that
moment until much later when he had nearly lost her.

In the front row, Suynie put a hand on Brylex's shoulder, stilling him
from where he was swinging his arms, clearly uninterested in the
wedding ceremony. Young Xelbry, balanced on her hip, was dressed in a
frilly little red dress, but her main interest was trying to stuff her
foster mother's necklace into her mouth.

Wirnan was present and dressed in his finest, but he had done his best
so far to remain unobtrusive. Part of the crowd. This was, after all,
Bryvin's day. And he did not want to distract from that.

Nevermind that he did not want any of Bryvin's guests to take special
note of him. At the same time, he had an official role in managing the
Hold. So it would hardly do for him to be unavailable.

He sighed as he realized he was dwelling on these things. Perhaps he
merely needed to find something to distract himself, instead. None of
this would become relevant until the reception, anyway. He could
simply sit, watch, and listen, and that would be enough.

N'call sat next to Teseada and took her hand. He smiled at her and
then at the happy couple. "I think they really care for eachother." he
whispered.

Benani squeezed back and smiled. Her mind moved along similar paths
and remembered how handsome had been when she was walking toward him
on their wedding day. It seemed too long and like yesterday at the
same time. Benaroy had still been alive then and she sighed at the
happy memories. She noticed Wirnan off to the side and leaned in to
point him out to Zathris with a quiet whisper.

Brina watched as Asaile took her brother's hand, with a deep sense of
pride that she'd not felt since the wedding of her own daughter. She'd
come to regard the young ladies under her care with almost as much
affection, and she was sure that Bryvin had made the right choice.
Asaile was gentle and modest, she wasn't silly like some of the girls,
and it was clear she adored her husband-to-be. She'd be a good Lady
Holder for Sunstone.

Bryvin nodded at the Harper with a grin. "None whatsoever Jovanten,"
he waved for him to continue.

Asaile blushed at the Harper's words and she gave a little shake of her
head. Then she raised her eyes to look at Bryvin and a sweet smile lifted
her lips. "None." Her expression was one of soft adoration for the man
beside her and the rest of the crowd seemed to melt away.

"Then let us begin," Jovanten gave them a smile. "I see you have already
taken each other's hands, which is a good start. As you know, we're here
today to join you two in matrimony. The first thing I have to ask, is that
you are both sure that this is what you want to do." Turning to the Lord,
"My lord, is it your wish to marry this beautiful lady stood here before you
today?"

Bryvin turned toward Asaile with a reassuring smile. He intended to
give her the most perfect wedding day her heart could desire. He was
providing for his own personal happiness after all, even if his actual
emotions might not exactly line up. "With all my heart," he said
warmly.

"My lady," continued Jovanten, "Is it also your wish to marry this man stood
here before you?"

Asaile's voice was happy, her eyes never leaving Bryvin's for a single
moment. "More than anything I've ever wanted."

Jovanten observed them for a moment before continuing, he'd seen enough
marriages between those of the blood that were clearly arranged for the
needs of the hold, but there seemed to be some genuine affection here, that
would stand the couple ion good stead for the future. "My Lord, I believe
that you have upon your person a token of your affection, would you please
display it to those of us gathered here, and then offer it to your bride to
be. Then I'd like you tell her, in your own words, why you would like to
marry her, and what that would mean to you."

Bryvin reached into the pocket of his brocade vest to pull out the
mate to the ring he'd already given her. He held the sparkling circle
of diamonds around the tip of the appropriate finger and looked
steadily into her eyes as he said his words. "I know I will not always
be what you want me to be. I might forget to listen or forget to
share. I might not always agree. I might be stubborn and I might be
wrongheaded, but I will always love you. I will always strive to be
the man you believe I can be. I promise to be there to catch you if
you should stumble, carry you over every threshold, and fall in love
with you every day." He smiled and pushed the ring onto her finger.

Noriya smiled from where she stood as one of the bride's attendants.
There was no jealousy in her heart for Asaile. She knew her friend
truly loved her Lord and for a moment her eyes strayed to Riadem.

Riadem's eyes followed Noriya, meeting hers for a long moment but
remembering himself, he turned back to watch as Lady Asaile was
directed to give her vows as well.

Asaile's heart melted even more at Lord Bryvin's words and felt as
though she would turn into a puddle at any moment. Her father handed
her the token that had been prepared, a signet ring with a ruby the
size of a thumbnail, surrounded by small beryls. She held it with
trembling fingers and looked up at Bryvin, her words soft but able to
be heard by the surrounding guests. "My sincerest wish is to strive
daily to make you happy, to make your duties lighter and give you the
ease to aid you. I promise to always support and please my Lord, to
love you fully as a wife should and always be the hand that holds
yours when you are troubled with your burdens." Her eyes shined as she
met his gaze, sliding the ring onto his finger. "I promise that my
love for you will be steady and ever constant, never wavering."

Xelbry decided at that moment to let out a baby squeal, wiggling in
her foster mother's arms to demand some attention. Suynie smiled at
the eyes that Xelbry's squeal caused to look in their direction. She
murmured something into the baby's ear that seemed to pacify her, but
then it was Brylex's turn to tug on Suynie's skirt and say, "Is it
over yet?"

There was a ripple of chuckles from those near enough to hear the
young lord's words. "Almost, my sweet, let's be quiet for a few more
minutes, okay?" Suynie put a hand on top of Brylex's head, who nodded
and leaned in against his foster mother.

Jovanten smiled as the youngster interrupted. "My Lord, my lady. Today, in
front of family and friends, you have pledged yourselves to each other, and
given and received tokens of your love and affection. With these public
declarations, and no objection raised," He paused, but there was rarely any
interruptions at this point. "It is my solemn, and joyous duty to declare
that you are married. My lord, you may kiss your bride."

Bryvin lifted both hands to her face and placed a gentle kiss on her
lips. Then he smiled and pulled back to face the gathered witnesses.
Tucking her hand into the crook of his arm, he took her first to greet
her parents. He turned his head and winked at Brylex and Xelbry, and
gave Suynie a grateful nod.

Wirnan smiled and applauded along with other guests. It was absolutely
delightful to see Bryvin find such a perfect match – especially one
who looked at him the way Asaile did.
