Description: Gold Chioneth rises to mate.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 12, day 9 of Turn 8
Saibra wasn't surprised when Chioneth tore off of her weyrledge,
rocketed into the feeding pens and began slaughtering bucks left and
right. The senior Queen had been glowing for days. Flicking the lights
of her weyr off, Saibra trotted quickly down the stairs to the
weyrbowl, mentally scolding her dragon as she did.
**Chioneth! Do you wanted to fly around like some bloated green? Spit
that buck out! Blood only!** There was a growl behind her thoughts as
she walked toward the feeding pens, never breaking eye contact with
her lifemate.
Chioneth snarled, bristling against the command her rider was trying
to give her. She wanted the buck.
}:It. Is. Mine.:{ the great golden beast rumbled.
**No. YOU are mine.** Saibra came to a stop at the fence of the feeding pens.
"Drop. It." The Weyrwoman punctuated each word sharply.
Chioneth and Saibra stood, frozen for a moment, in a heated inner
battle as they glared at one another.
}:Fine.:{ Chioneth finally huffed, flinging the buck, and causing the
rest of the herdbeasts to scatter in panic as the carcass fell among
them. Chioneth picked up a new, fresh beast and sunk her teeth deep
into its tender neck and drank from it deeply, looking at Saibra as if
to say, "See? I'm doing it."
Saibra exhaled a little sigh of relief, but continued to watch her
dragon. It was only then that she noticed from her peripherals that
men had started to gather close by.
Nirreth was excited, G'nir less so when they arrived to the feeding
pens. While he wouldn't mind becoming a Weyrleader again, his
relationship with Saibra was still frosty at it's best. He doupted
Nirreth had much changes because of that.
Haloth dropped onto a beast near Chioneth and watched her carefully as
he drained his beast. N'call smiled as he walked confidently into the
midst of the other riders gathering around the Weyrwoman. Young and
extremely confident because of a prior win they both thought they had
a chance. After all the former Weyrleader had been deposed last time.
It could happen again.
Torerath's dark brown hide didn't stand up to the browns around him
but that didn't matter at all. He was for all intents and purposes a
Wingleader and he wanted to capture the gold every bit as much as the
other dragons near her. D'ale took a deep breath and joined the group
of riders. He didn't hold the same illusions his lifemate enjoyed but
then. Stranger things had happened before.
Erdenth snarled as he landed, almost tossing K'reyel to the ground in
his haste to warn those other bronze dragons away from his mate.
Chioneth was his, and would be again. The herdbeast next to him didn't
stand a chance as it was pounced upon. Hid rider meanwhile moved
closer to Saibra, aware of what exactly was at stake with this flight.
A moment later a pop of displaced air and an unexpected bronze arrived
from /between/. Mnoranth bugled and plummeted then he dropped his
rider and waited only long enough to have his straps stripped off
before pouncing one one of the panic beasts himself. R'enh gave
K'reyel a nod and shouldered his way toward the Weyrwoman with a
smile.
Nirreth snarled, he didn't like the arrival of non-Dragonsfall bronze.
Outsiders had no business in _their_ Gold's Flight. Nothing he could
do about it though, except show off his teeth. As long as Chioneth
accepted him.
G'nir raised his eyebrows when he saw R'enh and then just shrugged.
Everyone knew about him and Saibra.
Saibra glanced up and smiled at R'enh, just the sight of him made a
little flutter of hope pass through her chest. The last time she had
invited R'enh to Chioneth's flight she had been desperate to get G'nir
out of the Weyrleader's position. She wasn't so desperate any more, she liked
K'reyel and they worked well together. Today was totally up to
Chioneth.
Without warning Chioneth dropped the herdbeast in her talons, her
fourth, and then hissed at her suitors before launching into the sky.
Erdenth was intent on making sure he followed Chioneth. His maw was
stained with the blood of his catch, and it was enough to give him the
energy to follow.
Nirreth used his strong hindlegs to push himself to the air. His wings
beat strongly and he felt alive. He trumpeted his intentions to all to
hear.
Chioneth and Saibra melded in the air, joining together in the thrill
of flying as they left the males behind. She would not be tamed, she
would never be caught, none were worthy!
Barreling through the skies, Chioneth enjoyed bursting through clouds
and riding currents upwards, propelling her further from the Weyr.
}:You know how good I am for you,:{ called Erdenth. }:My rider and I
will make it as good again, or even better.:{
Torerath being brown was faster off the ground than the bronzes but
even though he was in his prime and in superb condition from leading
Cyan he knew a Senior gold like Chioneth wouldn't be likely to choose
him. Still he didn't let that phase him and threw himself to the front
of the pack.
Haloth's brassy bugle added to the chorus of bronze and brown dragons
chasing the golden prize as she rose above the clouds.
Another voice of longing threw itself ahead of him as Mnoranth lunged
into the middle of the pack.
Despite his good start, Nirreth found himself badly boxed by the other
chasers. After considering his options, he decided to take a risk and
dropped altitude. He was trying to get past the others by going
_below_ them.
K'reyel unconsciously mimicked the movement of Erdenth. as the bronze
dragon worked his way around the pack in the sky, he worked his way
closer to Saibra.
Chioneth spared a glance over her shoulder for the pack of males, all
of whom she found worthy, except for the browns, she was a queen after
all! Trumpeting her power and strength, the gold began flying higher
in altitude, ready for her whomever her mate would be to come and
catch so they could have a nice long flight.
Nirreth snarled when his gamble failed: he was too low. The bronze
worked hard to catch up.
Working out to the side of the pack gave Erdenth the slight head start
to climb with Chioneth. Wings beating hard, the bronze dragon knew
this was his chance to prove himself once more. }:Mine,:{ he called
out, even as he reached the glittering golden prize.
On the ground Saibra went into K'reyel's arms as Chioneth locked
talons and twined necks with Erdenth.
Torerath landed exhausted on a mountain top and D'ale wheeled out of
the room brushing off any offers of solace. He wanted Yanley.
Haloth screamed his frustration and made his way back to the Weyr.
N'call sought solace in the arms of the first moth that offered.
Mnoranth screamed his frustration. He'd been about to make an almost
identical move on Chioneth but was a heartbeat late. R'enh grabbed the
arm of a nearby woman and pulled her into one of the cots.
