It was the first real activity that Saibra had attended since the
miscarriage. Even though she had debated staying home, several times,
she had ended up donning a black dress and braiding her hair over her
shoulder. It was a little less flashy than what she sometimes wore to
festivities, but it was comfortable. She had left K'reyel free to take
his weyrmate to the Hatching ceremony if he wished, and instead she
had asked someone else to go with her...

"All set?" K'yne asked, his eyes doing a once-over sweep of the
Weyrwoman. She looked beautiful, as usual, and she wore a dress
fitting a Weyr of warmer weather since that's where they would be for
the evening. He knew why she had asked him. It wasn't a date, it was
because he knew what she'd been going through, and whether he had
feelings for her or not, he would support her, and she knew that.

"Yes," she said as they walked out to their dragons. "Thank you,
again, I know I didn't really have a right to ask but...." There had
been no one else she trusted.

"Of course you have the right, you're the Weyrwoman." He smiled a
little to lighten the mood and then offered her a hand up onto
Chioneth, who waited patiently.

Once they were both settled in, Arinoth deferred to Chioneth,
following the Queen into the air and /between/. As they came out into
the warm, salty air, Saibra fought against the knot in her throat. She
hadn't seen R'enh since _that_ day, and she worried that he might be
at the festivities that evening. **What will I say to him?** She
hadn't contacted him, and to be honest, she hadn't wanted to, because
she didn't know what to tell him about what had happened. They had
always had a very open, honest relationship, and to admit that she had
gotten too attached... Made her feel foolish.

On the ground, K'yne offered Saibra his arm, and gave her elbow a
gentle pat, "We'll go whenever you say."

"Thanks." She murmured back, clinging to him like a life preserver,
and hoping the look on her face was more confident and calm than what
she felt on the inside.

R'enh watched her from the shadows of an entryway. He'd never been
able to find out why she hadn't bothered to visit while he'd been laid
up in the infirmary. The only information he'd been able to find out
had come through another friend at Dragonsfall. The rumor was that
she'd been sick. Though she looked fine now, and the way she was
hanging off the brownrider with her made him think perhaps she'd found
a new candidate for fatherhood.

Well perhaps it was just as well. His trips back and forth had nearly
cost him his life and for nothing it seemed. **Out of sight, out of mind,**
right? He turned to leave and found a soft hand on his arm. He looked into his Weyrwoman's face.

"Talk to her," she said softly. She'd been able to get Panithath
chatting with Chioneth. After all when one of her senior Bronzeriders
was so badly injured after the stunt N'vanik had confided in her she
had to know a bit more.

"Why," he asked. "She's clearly moved on."

"Because I don't think it's that simple R'enh. You deserve to know the truth."

"Well, it's pretty obvious you know something I don't." He ground out.
"Why don't you just tell me."

"I can't and I won't," she said. "Go! Talk to her. Or better yet.
Dance with her. You two always look good on the dance floor."

R'enh smiled and bent to give her a kiss on the cheek. "Why didn't I
fall in love with _you_," he said. "Because I'm already taken," she
dimpled up at him. Her dark eyes were hooded as she watched him make
his way toward the refreshment table.

Even though she was doing her best to avoid R'enh, it was as if her
body had a sixth sense just for the man, because the moment she looked
up her eyes zeroed in on his familiar form. Her mouth went dry just
looking at him, and inwardly panicking that she might have to talk to
him. **How can I explain what happened?**

"You okay?" K'yne murmured, feeling her tense up.

"He's here," she said simply.
