Physical Description of Persona:
Taril is a tall man with brown eyes, a strong chin and a mop of blond hair that brushes his collar, which he keeps neatly combed back from his face. He might have been handsome, but an accident at sea when he was a teenager left him disfigured. A pinkish scar across the left side of his face pulls one eye into a squint and his left ear is half missing. There are several large scars on his torso and back and he's missing his right leg just above the knee. He carries a crutch to help him walk, and dresses in somber colours to avoid attention.
Emotional Description of Persona:
Shrewd, ruthless, and sharp, Taril's known for his good sense and careful planning. As a merchant he drives a hard but fair bargain, and as a man he's known for adhering to his word—which is not lightly granted. His memory is long, and he never forgets a slight or lets a score go unsettled. Business is business, after all.
His pride and joy are his family and business. He'll do anything for them. He'd also desperately like a family of his own, but he also knows that a man like him doesn't get a happy ending.
History of Persona:
Taril is the eldest of his father's three sons. He was outgoing, intelligent and adventurous, and well poised to follow in his father's footsteps as the captain of a trading ship. When he was fifteen, however, and apprenticing under his father on the Blue Shipfish, his leg was caught in loose rope and crushed by a poorly secured anchor.
The leg was too damaged to save, so when the Shipfish sailed into port a day later it had to be amputated. Taril nearly died again, this time of infection.
Taril was never really the same after that. He turned to the books, and ended up taking over his family's business by the age of 20. In that time he's turned his father's one ship into a fleet of five, and his ruthless trading skills mean that many of the area's Crafters and farmers turn to him as a middleman in negotiating trades with other ships and Holds.
When Morin began gathering supporters to build Sunstone Seahold, Taril knew a rising star when he saw one. He convinced his family to move their business from their own prosperous cothold at Red Tide Rocks to Sun Stone Bay. As one of the richest men in the district, Taril can be influential, but he usually stays out of politics for politics' sakes. He is currently working on building a large warehouse near the docks and has approached Lord Morin for leave to construct a tavern as well.
Taril has also started a business on the side— loans. The dockyards are full of men who gamble and drink, and he's more than willing to help them support their habits. He runs several back-room card and dice games and will loan marks to those who run out. He's also more than willing to collect, when it comes time.

Pets
Dodger, Brown Firelizard: aged 18, hatched m1 d23
When Taril was recuperating from his accident, his youngest brother Terion brought him a firelizard egg he'd found on the beach as something to keep his mind of his misfortune. Dodger is exceedingly well trained for a flit. He is a reliable messenger, can guard places or objects, and has been trained to find people and send their location to his master. He occasionally begs, but for the most part is so quiet that people forget he's there.
