Persona Profile: Cithara

Writer: Heather

Cithara

Name: Cithara
Pronunciation: Sea-thAR-ah
Age: 54
Birthday: m9 d13
Rank: Headwoman
Location: Printer Hall, Emerald Falls Hold

Physical Description of Persona:
Cithara is a strikingly demure lady. Her hair is a dark grey with silvery strands highlighting it here and there. Her eyes are soft blue. Tall cheekbones and flat cheeks give her face a strong appearance. She is 5'7" and moderately slender apart from the curves gifted to her through the children she bore earlier in her life. She dresses rather tastefully and conservatively after the Turns of living in the conservative Holds of the Southern Continent.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Cithara is solid as a rock. She keeps a cool head and thinks logically. While she is tender and affectionate, she is never ruled by her emotions. The experiences of her life have taught her that hysterics and tears rarely solve anything. She is unafraid of hard work and will commit herself fully to whatever she deems worthy. At this newfound point of freedom in her life, Cithara is at complete peace with herself and her life.

History of Persona:
Cithara has led an interesting and varied life, not on purpose, but she has rolled with the punches and came out the better for it. Cithara always imagined herself as a wife to a Holder, and so that is what she dedicated herself to pursuing. She became a consummate lady at dancing, singing, painting, embroidering, and running a house staff. That's how she attracted her first husband, Master Singer Benoir. He was twenty Turns her senior, but a profitable match for her family. Out of duty to her family, and having no other feasible options, she married Benior. Being the wife of a highly sought-after harper, put her at the epicenter of societal functions. Her favorite part of such functions was the information and stories that were shared by those in high society. It was then that she began keeping a diary, not of her own life, but of the people, places, and stories she experienced and overheard.

Dutifully she bore Benoir two children and nearly died trying to give him a third, and what would have been his son and only true heir. Their son was delivered stillborn and Cithara was unable to conceive again. While she had never planned on being a mother, she found it more pleasant than she could have possibly imagined. She loved experiencing life through the eyes of her vivacious daughters.

When she was thirty her husband Benoir fell ill and battled with it for two Turns before passing. At the time of his passing, their eldest daughter was ten and their youngest eight. Benoir had saved up a nice little sum from his performances as a Master Singer, but it wasn't enough to sustain a family of three for the rest of their lives. So, Cithara was once again left to roll with the punches.

At thirty-three she married again to provide for her daughters, this time to an older Minor Holder whose wife had passed the Turn before. He had six children of his own who needed a mother, and that was how Cithara found herself raising six stepchildren. At least her upbringing had prepared her for the life of a Minor Holder's wife. She knew how to manage and run the household in a manner that left her new husband, Amereld, pleased.

Over the next twenty Turns, Cithara saw her own daughters off, one into marriage and the other into the harpercraft. She also organized the wedding and reception of Amereld's eldest son and heir. Over twenty Turns, her stepchildren became like real children to her, and she found she loved them with greater capacity than she had previously
expected.

And then, life changed again. Amereld died in his sleep and his eldest son took control of the Minor Hold. Cithara could have stayed there, her stepchildren saw her as their mother in many ways, but Cithara thirsted for more. The last thirty Turns of her life had been spent in the pursuit of raising children for two different men. Previous contacts led her back to the Harper Hall, where some still remembered her first husband, Master Singer Benoir. She worked there first, her primary duties cleaning up the apprentice dormitories and seeing to their copious mounds of laundry.

When Aleriand took control of the Printer Hall, Cithara saw a new opportunity for herself and stepped into the role of Headwoman for the small Hall. The Headwoman role, once again, suited her abilities and the experiences she had garnered over the last fifty-three Turns of her life. It was finally in this role, around the creative minds of the printers, that Cithara began revisiting the wonderful stories and tales she had written in her diary over the Turns.

And so, with Aleriand's blessing, she began sharing some of the juicy tidbits under a penname: Master Unknown.
