Physical Description of Persona:
Tall, lean, and lanky, with narrow shoulders and the muscle definition that comes naturally from dragonriding but only just that much and no more, M’kayre’s air of authority comes more from his height and his demeanor than from any sense of physical imposition. While generally correct and proud in his posture in the presence of others, he has begun to slouch a little as he’s grown older, particularly around people he feels comfortable and safe with, but would be absolutely horrified if anyone were to point this out to him. One look at the sharp, deliberate, and fashionable way he dresses himself probably makes it clear why; this is a man who takes pride in the way he presents himself, and considers it his duty to maintain a certain standard. His short wavy dark brown hair, now dulled by a liberal dusting of dark grey hairs mixed in, has receded slightly, and keeps it swept back from his face. His goatee and mustache are kept immaculate, and hooded brown eyes give him an intense expression. His long face, lined from the passing of the turns and the weathering of a life lived outdoors, has left him looking a little older than his actual turns, though some of this is likely genetic, too.
Emotional Description of Persona:
M’kayre is a passionate man, a proud man, who positively aches to love, and loves to ache. He wants to throw his all into whatever he attaches himself to, to live for it, to drown in it, because it feels so good and it hurts so much. He wants to wallow in his sadness, and stew in his anger, because anything worth feeling is worth feeling with every fiber of his being, and denying it leaves him bereft and incomplete in a way that he wouldn’t be able to describe if you were to ask. He carries torches. He holds grudges. He dedicated himself to River Bluff as if his very heartbeat depended upon the buzzing life that comprised its lower caverns, and he mourns it still -- Dragonsfall hasn’t yet managed to fill that hole in his chest, and perhaps it never will unless it somehow meets the impossible standard of a place that’s dead and gone and frozen in time, forever unable to tarnish itself in his memory.
In fact, nigh-impossible standards dictate a lot of his interaction with others. He demands only the best of himself, and expects it from others. Competency, intelligence, and decorum. Look the part of a dragonrider who deserves to be the very elite of Pern. Do your duty always. Use your brain every once in a while, for Faranth’s sake! He is well-educated, and doesn’t actually understand that the quality and frequency of harper education (let alone advanced craft instruction) isn’t universal. He is eloquent, and absolutely judges people who aren’t. If he seems to carry a certain amount of disdain for those around him, it’s because… well, he does. And, while he understands (but despises) the need to hide it occasionally, he can never actually manage to do so for long. He’s just too arrogant.
When surrounded by familiar faces, in a place where he feels as if he can relax and let go, he can actually be quite charming. He laughs more easily than one might expect, is a good conversationalist, and tolerates a much wider variety of quirks and foibles than he does in public. He is loyal to his wingmates, even if he finds them personally lacking, because duty demands he regard them as his brothers and sisters in arms and he finds the idea romantic and appealing. He finds a lot of things romantic, in fact, and though he has never quite managed to experience falling in love, himself, he frequently puts quill to page and writes about just that.
History of Persona:
Malkayre was born and raised in the Smithcraft. His father was a jewelcrafting specialist who would accept nothing less than his only son following in his footsteps, and if that was what his father wanted, that was how it was going to be. The man ruled his family with an iron fist and very little open affection, with expectations that could only rarely be met. Malkayre thrived in the craft, at least, taking to his studies quickly and exhibiting a talent for fine detail work that could someday take him far. When he specialized -- as expected -- in jewelcrafting, he genuinely enjoyed the work, taking pleasure in the design of the piece and the precision required to craft it. Only the overbearing presence of his father tainted his experience, and as he grew in confidence and ability, he also grew into a strong-willed, stubborn young man who chafed under that choking influence that both drove him to strive for greater heights and ground him down into nothing simultaneously.
When he was Searched for River Bluff, he found himself unexpectedly appreciative of the opportunity to just _breathe_. Even so, he Impressed bronze Bhelth so quickly afterwards that he never truly had a chance to grow outside of the shadow of great expectation, only trading one impossibly high standard for another. He openly disliked his father, yet simultaneously credited his relentless strictness with forging him into a person who could be worthy of a perfect bronze dragon. He devoted himself to River Bluff wholeheartedly -- the place that had given him his independence, and his Bhelth, and he applied the tireless dedication that he had learned at the jewelcrafter’s table to becoming the best rider he could be, and to climb the ranks.
He was a Wingleader at River Bluff when the earthquake forced its riders to relocate, and he ended up shuffled to Dragonsfall. His stubborn reluctance to integrate himself happily into his new home won him few new friends, and has likely contributed to his inability to regain rank in the time since.
Dragon's Name: Bhelth
Dragon's Age: 37
Dragon's Colour: Bronze
Description of Dragon:
Shiny as a new penny, evenly-colored all over, and of just the right height and breadth to be a perfect, beautiful specimen of bronze, Bhelth has a tendency to immediately catch the eye of anyone looking in his general direction. When healthy and well-tended, his hide absolutely gleams, and being built to be utterly average is something he uses to his advantage in the air -- he's not the fastest, most agile, or strongest of his color, but he performs well all-around, and never has to worry about being weak in any one area.
Bhelth leaps first and looks second. He's strong, he's fit, he's bronze -- he can handle anything, right? Age and experience have only mellowed him out a little; excitement is still what he craves, and he doesn't always consider the consequences before he goes out in search of it. The ground seems immensely boring to him. Nothing exciting ever happens on the ground, at least not to him, so what good is he to anyone down there? The air is where he feels most alive, whether fighting or chasing, and he gets a little out of sorts if he's grounded for any unusual length of time. Threadfighting, of course, is his duty and his passion, and he'll always want to be one of the first to meet the enemy. He thoroughly enjoys playing the hero, not only because he likes to do what he thinks is right (which may or may not be what others think is right), but also because he enjoys the adoration and adulation that it earns him -- particularly from his rider, who very openly spoils and dotes on him, and from potential mates, who he frequently chases. He doesn't take well to being denied, either, and is prone to quiet tantrums and fits of sulking when he's not allowed to follow his passions, even if those passions are sure to lead him into trouble.
The use of guile is not really something that occurs to Bhelth. Why should it? He doesn't have to be sneaky -- he's a bronze, after all, and a fine handsome one at that, and it's just natural that other dragons follow him, isn't it? What you see is what you get with him, and even dragons can appreciate that.
