Physical Description of Persona:
Lanky is the best description for S'yen. It looks as though he’s still growing but he isn’t. He’ll stick to be around 5’11. His whip-thin physique is mostly maintained by a picky diet. His brown hair curls into loose sun-bleached strands. His eyes are greyish blue. His voice is generally a low-volume tenor but if he’s caught singing, there’s a surprising vibrancy to his voice. He likes wearing jewelry of all types. There are a few scars on his left inner forearm that he doesn’t want to talk about.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Sarcastic and cynical best describe S’yen. Where he previously didn’t think anything in his life was going to work out, now that it has, he’s deeply afraid of it all going away. He hides it by being sharp and angry, taking it out on others and then regretting it, but not changing. There’s a sense of entitlement to him now, since he considered so much of his life on hold before. He has catching up to do. Find him at parties, hopping beds, living up that hedonistic life.

He shows remarkable observations of others’ likes and dislikes. He’s good at reading people, just not good at being a welcoming person. He wants to be accepted and loved for who he is but he knows that he isn’t showing his best self right now. He knows he’s not a brave person but he’s also the determined, dogged sort of person. He’ll do what he needs to do. Given the chance, he will talk about subjects he loves at length or help a friend with anything.

Born at Hidden Meadows, it was obvious to Syerin at a young age that he was going to be different. He hated getting dirty, which was impossible to avoid in a farmcraft-heavy Hold. He was vocal and picky, which led to lots of contention between him and his family. And he liked boys, which he told no one but figured that someone would eventually figure it out since he refused anything romantic with women. He wanted to be a harper, travel Pern and sing, why couldn’t he do that? These three major things meant that Syerin’s life in the Hold was full of unhappiness.

It got worse the summer he turned fifteen, when he began to despair that this was all he would ever have. His brother and sister seemed well-adjusted, why couldn’t he be? He tried to change himself and only hated himself more for it. He ever tried to run away one night and got lost within the first few hours. His father dragged him back, ever the shameful stain on the family. It was no wonder the thought of not existing began to appeal to him. It was never going to get any better.

Had his father not demanded that Syerin accompany him on the caravan ride to Amber Hills, there might not have been another chapter in the teen’s life.

But the dragons were there, Searching, and one took interest in a terrified Syerin. He nearly said no. It wasn’t a matter of Thread -- it was a matter of the pain he knew versus the myriad of possibilities out there that could be worse. Or better. Why he said yes, he’ll never know, but he realized within the month that Weyrlife was far better than backwater Hold life for him, even with the chores. Yet, no dragon was choosing him at the Hatchings, which at first didn’t bother him since he was only sixteen but as he got older and the rejections began to build, he felt like that old wound of no one wanting him again because he didn’t really fit in.

It took him five Turns to find Jenith, just when he had begun to give up hope and look for crafting options that would keep him at the Weyr in case he aged out.
