Physical Description of Persona:
Jarri is a plain girl with a triangular face, big brown eyes, and reddish brown short hair that wisps around her ears. Her nose is crooked from where its been broken, her cheekbones are prominent, and her rare smile is decidedly lopsided. She is 5'5" and on the thin side. She's not particularly curvy.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Jarri is suspicious of just about everyone. To her, actions are undertaken to further a cause, and altruism, kindness, and respect are masks that hide the true motivations: greed, cruelty, and the need to dominate. She seems quiet and sullen, but she approaches any task she is assigned with efficiency and sincere effort. She loves to fly, becomes territorial over personal space, and finds it hard to accept help. She's slowly dropping her wariness the closer to becoming a dragonrider she gets.

History of Persona:
Jarri is the eldest child of a cotholder living near Amethyst Cliff Hold. Her father was authoritarian and prone to beating his children for the slightest failing, imagined or otherwise, and her mother didn't have the will to protect them. She would even avoid beatings herself by blaming minor faults on her children, and because Jarri was the eldest, the blame was often put on her shoulders. She was beaten for anything: because the dishes weren't clean enough, because the fire was too hot, because the herdbeast hadn't produced enough milk, because supper was cold, or because the babies were crying. She learnt early on that crying or denouncing her mother would increase the severity of the abuse.

Although she was often bruised, Jarri found her life to be acceptable -- mainly because she couldn't imagine anything else. She loved her lessons and looked forward to the Harper's occasional visits, and she mourned when her parents judged her old enough to stop. Her mother was a competent lacemaker and began teaching Jarri how to tat lace when she was nine turns old, and although her embroidery is awful, lacemaking interested her enough for her to develop a knack for it.

Jarri was seven when Elira was born, and she soon grew attached to the bright little girl. Elira was full of laughter and was surprisingly good-hearted, and Jarri soon became her protector. Whenever they had a free moment they would sneak off together to play and tell stories. Sometimes Jarri would take her tatting needles and Elira would take her wool carders and they would spend hours alone together outside in the fields. Since they always came back with proof that they were working hard, their parents grudgingly condoned it.

On her sixteenth birthingday her father announced, in lieu of a gift, that he would find a husband for her. Jarri tried to run away the next day, but she was spotted buy a neighbouring cotholder and caught before she got very far. Her father was furious, and vowed to find a husband with the will to break his daughter. He beat her so severely that night that Jarri's arm and nose were broken, and she couldn't get out of bed for over three days. Elira cried non-stop, and Jarri promised her that she would escape, and when she did, she'd come for her.

Jarri never did, and was bonded five months later to a neighbouring cotholder's son, named Mikas. Mikas was every bit as cruel as her father, and he justified unprovoked beatings by saying that her father had authorized him to break in his new wife in any way he chose. They lived at Mikas' parents cothold, as Mikas was the eldest son and hoped to inherit the land when his father passed away.

One day Jarri and Mikas were sent to Amethyst Cliff Hold sell a herdbeast and her calf. A Searchrider was there, and Jarri impressed him enough to accept her as a Candidate. As soon as she got to the Weyr, she dissolved her marriage to Mikas and resolved to never be attached to anyone again. That changed when green Kirynth of Hydripheth's clutch singled her out, although Jarri still has a hard time believing that she was good enough to Impress a dragon.

Once she becomes a full dragonrider, Jarri is determined to go back to her cothold to rescue her sister.
