Kapera

Cyradis looked at Saibra after her declaration with a small smile. The
other woman was exactly the right hand she'd needed since coming to
Dolphin Cove but now they were most likely going to bring another
rider into the mix.

}:Love, can you please ask Loseth's and his guest to join us in my weyr?:{

Panitath though drowsing in the sun on her ledge nudged her mate and
made the request.

N'vanik's eyes went distant for a moment as Loseth relayed the
message. "It seems the Weyrwoman would like to meet you," N'vanik told
Kapera. "She's on bedrest due to her pregnancy so we'll go pay her a
visit," he said as he stood.

"Lead the way," the visitor said as she got to her feet. Better for
the Weyrleader to bring her into the space of the head goldrider. It
was more diplomatic than she'd used to be. "Anything I should be
worried about?" she asked in a low voice.

N'vanik shrugged. "Not that I know of." It only took a moment to go
down the hall to the Weyrwoman's door. He knocked to be polite before
opening the door. He didn't expect her to get up to answer.

Saibra cocked an eyebrow at the woman with N'vanik. She had never met
her before, and was curious as to what was going on. A simple meeting
with Cyradis was turning into much more than she had expected.

Cyradis smiled and waived the two over to where she sat with her feet
propped up. "Come on in," she said. "I'm Cyradis," she figured the
introduction was unnecessary but she might as well. "And this is my
'second Saibra."

"Greetings. I hope you're well." Kapera said to the other goldriders,
politely inclining her head. "I'm Kapera, of Windswept Islands." She
studied the pair, wondering about them on their own and working
together. She was determined to put on a good face and make the right
impression.

What was a goldrider from Windswept doing at Dolphin Cove? Saibra
wondered. She kept her musings from her face, instead showing her
polite Weyrwoman's Second expression, "Well met."

"Indeed, Well met." She turned her smile to N'vanik. "Thank you for
coming." Strictly speaking they usually met in the Council Chambers
or she went to his office when she needed to talk to him but he was
being very supportive just now and she wanted him to know how much she
appreciated it.

Then by way of explanation she turned back to Saibra. "We received a
letter from Kapera with her wish to transfer to Dolphin Cove and felt
that now would be a very good time to have another adult goldrider
producing here." **Especially with our recent difficulties.** "

Kapera ran her hand down the side of her pants in an unconscious
gesture of nerves before she spoke. How to convey how much she wanted
to be useful again. "This is a good Weyr and I'd like to serve it. I
have enough experience to work at whatever share of the duties you'd
give me."

Cyradis threw an inquiring look at N'vanik. She would rather gauge his
opinion of the goldrider rather than give out any false hope. "Please
have a seat," she smiled at the pair.

N'vanik gave her a nod before sitting. He didn't know Kapera well, but
aside from the health problem that made her leave Dragonsfall, he
didn't have a reason to be wary of her. He hadn't clashed with her the
way he had with so many other goldriders. "I'd be happy to have
another goldrider." More dragons being hatched and someone else to
help with the work. And Meledei would have an extra mentor.

Cyradis smiled and then turned to Kapera, "So what made you decide to
contact us Kapera?" Her tone was friendly and conversational.

She settled into the chair before answering, "Windswept has 2 clutches
hardening and 1 Flight due within two months. Their Hatching Sands are
smaller than yours. There's not enough space, and the queens are
beginning to be restless." And everyone knew what happens when queens
felt possessive.

Saibra empathized with that, it was a similar reason to why she had
finally decided to leave Far Island Weyr when the Weyrwoman's Second
position had come open at Dolphin Cove. Too many adult golds in a
confined area started to become a hassle that no one liked to deal
with.

"We've got plenty of room," N'vanik said.

Cyradis nodded agreement with N'vanik. "Panitath is about to lay a
clutch any day now and Saibra informs me that Chioneth could rise in
the next couple of months. Also, Meledei's Elleth won't be due soon as
her last clutch just hatched." She didn't want a conflict in schedules
between two queens that would only lead to tragedy for one or both.
"When do you think Riyanth will rise next?"

"At least three months out, could be as many as five." Kapera
responded, hoping the question was a good portent. They didn't seem
immediately opposed to the idea, and so far everything sounded good.

Turning a half smile at Saibra, Cyradis then looked again at N'vanik,
if he was good with an additional gold rider then she could accept
this younger woman in the role. **Tell Loseth's we can always use
another laying queen and our sands are broad enough for three clutches
at once.**

Saibra inwardly cringed at the thought of some new goldrider coming in
and clutching before Chioneth. She also wonderd how the dynamic of
having a former Senior Weyrwoman suddenly becoming a junior would work
in the way that she, Cyradis and Meledei worked with one another.
Still, it wasn't her decision to make, she would follow Cyradis and
N'vanik in whatever they chose.

He wasn't going to argue. **Tell her I agree.**

Cyradis nodded signaling him she'd received his message. "Well then
Kapera, I believe we're agreed and would be happy to welcome you to
Dolphin Cove as soon as you're ready to relocate."

"I am pleased to be working with you all," she said with a warm smile,
mindful of the importance of a good working relationship. "I can be
here within a sevenday. Should I talk to your Headwoman about a weyr
assignment?"

"Yes," Cyradis nodded. "Saibra can take you to her. There are several
very fine gold sized weyrs both high and bowl level with a couple for
visitors and another with access to the sands for when your queen
becomes too heavy to fly. I'm sure we'll have plenty of time to get it
ready for you, whichever one you choose."

Kapera inclined her head. "Thank you."
