Flicking through the hides in his hands and gazing at the figures,
D'hol softly rubbed at the scar along his neck. They had used a few
more bags of firestone and numbweed during their last drill than was
expected, so Cyradis would need an update of what the wing needed.
Exhaling, he paused as he approached the door. He and Cyradis had been
civil at least for the past few sevendays; it didn't help that Yumath
was back to courting Panitath, but he'd yet to hear any complaints.
Dragons would be dragons...but he wasn't about to attempt to stop his
bronze from attempting to win over the gold.

He approached the door and knocked lightly, waiting for a response.

Cyradis was working on a few documents while Kielya played nearby with
one of her dolls and the tea service. "Almost done sweetheart," she
said just before she heard the knock at the door.

"Come in," she called absently.

**Sweetheart?** "I'm touched, Cyradis. Really. I didn't know you cared."
D'hol came in, looked at the scene and blinked before a brow rose.
"Well..." His eyes flicked to the girl and then back to Cyradis. "That
explains it. Nevermind."

It would be fair to say that Cyradis clenched when he came through the
door. Why did he have to come on the one day... her eyes shifted to
her daughter and back but she used every bit of control she had to
maintain. "D'hol," she tried to say pleasantly. "This is Kielya, my
youngest."

The little girl didn't pay much attention to the man other than to
look up at him then go back to playing with her doll. Most of the
people who came to talk to mama were boring anyway. "Blah, blah,
blah," she said to her doll.

"Kielya," Cyradis said with a bit of reprimand in her voice. "This is
Wingleader D'hol."

She sighed and put down the doll, then gave the tall man a little girl
curtsey. "Wingleader D'hol," she piped.

There was a barely contained snort of laughter from D'hol and his mouth
quivered as he returned the little girls curtsey with a bow. "It's a pleasure..
Keilya, is it?" He turned to Cyradis, lips quivering as he contained
his mirth at the small child's attitude. "Definitely your child."

**You don't know the half.** But she managed to smile anyway. She was
thankful when her daughters attention shifted back to her play. "What
can I help you with this morning Wingleader?"

His eyes flicked back to the child, lingering for moment with a slight
frown before turning his attention back to Cyradis. "My wing is going
to need more firestone and numbweed from the stores before next Fall.
We used up more than normal during our last practice training a few
of the new wingmembers." His eyes swung back to the little girl and
his head tilted to the side for a moment. "I didn't know you had a child
that young." He spoke again to the little girl, curiosity getting the better
of him. "How old are you?"

Keilya looked up at the big man and tilted her head. "You're a
bronzerider aren't you?" She stood and walked over to touch the knots
on his shoulder. "I know 'cuz of this," she traced the bronze chord
through the pattern. "My mommy says to be nice to bronzeriders."

Cyradis' complexion was taking on a subtle shade of green. "She's seven."

"You should have some tea," declared the little girl and she spun away
from D'hol to gather up a cup from her play set.

"Why, yes. I am."Speaking out of the side of his mouth, D'hol answered
softly. "Mommy should definitely take her own advice." Clearing his throat,
his attention centered back on the child and at her small voiced
declaration, his eyes crinkled before he gave an honest wide smile. He
found himself liking the impudent little girl.

It was a rare thing to see that smile; D'hol very rarely gave it and there was
a warmth about it that was far more rare. Many would have found it
stunning to see that D'hol actually had a beautiful smile. White teeth
flashed and the expression transformed his face from ruggedly attractive to
intensely handsome. His voice too was warm. "Why thank you, Keilya.
I like tea."

Unseen below the edge of the desk Cyradis dug her fingernails into her
palm. That very smile had once sent her stomach into flip flops. It
did now too but for a very different reason. "Mommy does her best,"
she ground back with a sickeningly sweet smile.

"Firestone and Numbweed you said?" She tried to bring the meeting back
to the real reason he'd dropped by. She opened and closed her hand a
couple of times under the desk before reaching for the proper hide.
"I'm sure we can get you what you need."

"Drink!" Commanded the little replica of the goldrider. Dark curls
bounced around her shoulders as her foot stomped on the floor. Hazel
eyes looked pointedly at his empty cup.

"Yes. Firestone and numbweed..." He nodded in agreement as his
smile dropped slightly when he addressed her. "Now now, Cyradis,
I can't help it if your daughter likes me. It must be my charm." Returning
to his expression was a look of sarcastic humor.

One brow quirked upwards, but as he turned back to be faced with
the miniature Weyrwoman, he gave a solemn nod, looked down
at the empty cup and back to Keilya. Feeling a bit silly, he shrugged
and pretended to sip. "You make very good tea." He handed her back
the cup.

**This is not going to end well. I just know it.**
