Description: Reven discusses with Relea, more indepth, her need of a husband,
Location: Green Valley Hold
Date: month 12, day 23 of Turn 6
Reven felt that he had the perfect person in mind for Relea to marry,
granted, he hadn't yet_talked_ to the man, nor did he feel as though
he had a true representation of who Relea was. He had noticed during
his brief meeting with her before that she seemed nervous and anxious
about the entire process, but then, why wouldn't she? Her brother
Leaton had also done the dragon's share of the conversation and Reven
got the feeling that he just wanted to see the woman out of his hair.
And so he had invited Relea to his office in the hopes of getting to
know the girl better, and to see if she might possibly be right for
his brother- Coran.
To be honest, Relea was surprised at the invitation. She wondered if
Reven had found someone to marry her to already. She hoped not. Of
course, if he had, most likely the meeting would be with her brother
rather than herself. So why had he called her? Well, she certainly
wasn't going to refuse. She showed up exactly when she was told to be
there and knocked upon the door. She waited a moment, probably longer
than necessary, then slowly opened the door to peek in. If he hadn't
given her permission, she'd leave immediately, of course.
"Relea," Reven smiled and stood as the woman peeked her head around
his door, "come in." He gestured with his hand for her to come in, and
then pointed to the chair across from his desk to indicate that she
should have a seat. Turning he poured them each a cup of klah from the
pitcher on his warmer. Placing the cup in front of her on the desk, he
sat back in his chair.
Relea paused, surprised at the offer of klah. It was a nice gesture,
one she hadn't expected. Before she took it up, she placed her
fingertips to her chin, then arched her hand outward and toward the
holder. Then she lowered herself into the chair and took the cup to
take a sip.
"I wanted to talk with you more about finding you a husband." He told
her without preamble, enunciating his words carefully so that she
could read his lips.
Relea's eyes dropped briefly, but she nodded. A husband for her
wouldn't be easy to find. Who would want a wife who couldn't hear? She
allowed herself another sip, then let her gaze lift back to fall on
Reven once more.
"You're brother did most of the talking the other day. I would like to
have your input as well on a husband." Reven leaned back in his chair,
waiting for her answer.
Relea couldn't help but stare at the holder for a moment._Her_ input?
Leaton had never asked for her own input. He'd had all the say, and
the only man she would have not minded marrying had been one he had
refused. After a moment, she blinked and then nodded.
Reven sat there for a moment, unsure how sure this was going to work,
until he remembered her slate, "Why don't you write down for me what
you're looking for, or if you don't want a husband I can try to find
something else for you to do. You don't have to stay with your
brother." He assured her. He had a couple of sisters himself and
couldn't imagine pawning them off to the first animal that called
himself a man.
Relea's eyes widened and brightened. He wouldn't make her marry? That
was...well, it was unheard of - at least, where she had been. Her lips
curled up and her face lit up with the smile. She pulled out the
slate and then tapped it. It wasn't that she didn't_want_ to marry.
It was just..."I want someone who is willing to learn my language."
She wrote upon the slate, then showed it to him. She erased it and
added, "Someone willing to learn to like me. I want to have a
friend." That was what Nico had been...but she hadn't heard from him
and she was so lonely. She didn't need a husband, truly. "I don't
mind making myself useful before then. To get away." She decided not
go add more to that. By what Reven had said, he would understand.
"My brother, Coran, is a journeyman healer here, and I think you two
would be perfect for each other to be honest. He's smart and patient
so I am sure he can learn your hand signals. He lost his wife a Turn
or so ago." Reven told her, not saying that he thought Relea would be
perfect at helping his brother move on as well.
Relea hadn't expected that. She knew her brother would certainly like
that match. She herself wasn't opposed to marriage, she just wished
it wasn't being thrust upon her in such a fashion. She started to
move her hands, even with the stylus and chalk in them, but realised
that it was difficult to 'talk' with things in her hands, not to
mention that Reven didn't know her language. She stopped and wrote
out, "Could we court first? I'd like to take time to get to know each
other."
Reven laughed and waved his hand, "Of course, I haven't even spoken to
Coran yet. In the mean time I have got a room ready for you, I had
the Headwoman see to it today. It's just a small room, mind you, but
it should be enough for you." He doubted she had very many things to
move in with her anyway.
Relea's face brightened further and she made the gesture that she had
earlier, her fingertips went to her chin and then moved out and down
toward Reven. Then she made another gesture and a third, all in a
smooth, gentle succession, an ease that came from long practise.
The Holder smiled, his memory serving him well, "You're welcome,
Relea. Once you have your things packed you can see the Headwoman and
she'll show you to your room. I'll get in contact with Coran in the
next couple of days. If he agrees then we'll go from there."
It was more than she had hoped for. The man seemed genuinely
concerned about her welfare, which was more than she felt from her
brother. If nothing else, Reven had at the very least earned her
