Description: D'hol gives Cyradis a tour of Barrier Lake
Location: Barrier Lake Weyr
Date: month 2, day 16 of Turn 10
Stepping quietly into the office, D'hol watched as Cyradis continued
her hidework, head bent and obviously concentrating on what she was
doing. His steps were quiet as he approached, and then bent to
whisper into her ear. "Hello, beautiful."
Cyradis nearly leapt out of her skin and whipped around to see who it
was then clutched at her throat. "D'hol!" She breathed while her
heart returned to normal. "I hate when you do that," she said thumping
him on the shoulder with her fist.
The laugh that greeted her was wry as he caught the thumping fist and
lifted it to his lips. "I know. That's why I do it." He chuckled and
bent to brush his lips over hers. "I have a couple of candlemarks
free, so I thought I'd see if you'd like some company. "
She leaned over and flipped a page in her notebook and ran a finger
down the page. "I can arrange some time," she half smiled. "What did
you have in mind?"
"Perhaps you and Kielya would like a tour of Barrier Lake or..." he
mused, running a calloused finger along her neck. "...perhaps a
picnic. Something like that."
Dang him, he knew all buttons and tells, she thought as an involuntary
shiver went down her spine. But her eyes lit. "I'd love to see Barrier
Lake. Are the sands ready for a clutch yet?"
His grin widened at the visible shiver. "They are. All of the queens
have inspected and approved them. I think having them there really
pushed the bronzes to excess in getting the sands ready. We're just
waiting for one of them to rise and claim them first. " The finger
lifted to lightly caress the shell of her ear. "I think a tour is
definitely in order. If you can get away for a bit."
"I can," she said. "Kielya," she called out and feet could be heard
pattering in their direction.
"Da!," she squealed and leaped at him. "I didn't know you were coming."
D'hol looked up and caught his daughter before she knocked him over.
"Hey there, little bit." He hugged her tightly, then muttered a rueful
aside to Cyradis "Nice distraction." He turned back to Kielya,
"Faranth, you've grown over the past couple of months, haven't you?"
Kissing her brow, he set her down. "I know. I had some free time. Not
much, but a bit. Your mother and I were talking about me giving you
both a tour of Barrier Lake."
Cyradis chuckled. "Thanks, but unplanned. Kind of like your surprise."
She stood next to the pair and rubbed Kielya's back. "What do you
think, Want a ride to Barrier Lake on Yumath?"
"Yes!" Kielya said without letting go of her father. "I miss you." she said.
"I miss you and your mother everyday, Kielya." He chuckled softly,
hugging her again. "Go get your flight jacket. Yumath is right
outside and he's expecting you." D'hol bent to kiss the crown of her
head. He waited until she scampered off, then spun, pulling Cyradis
full against him to give her a searing kiss, hands cupping her hips.
"Miss this too." He squeezed lightly, then exhaled. "Faranth, do I
miss you. Might want to go get your gear too, Weyrwoman. Meet me at
my bronze?"
"Yup," she said and then sent messages via Panitath to the
appointments she was moving as she changed. She'd been hoping for an
invitation to Barrier Lake since she'd heard nothing but praise for
the work being done there. "Ready," she said as she emerged in her
flight gear.
}:Take care of mine:{ Panitath commanded the bronze.
}: Of course. :{ Yumath crooned to Panitath, crouching low to allow
both Cyradis and Kielya to easily reach the handholds to pull
themselves up. D'hol offered assistance, strapping Kielya between
himself and Cyradis before sending Yumath into the air.
When they emerged over Barrier Lake, Yumath slowly circled the
Weyrhold at D'hol's request, allowing his riders to have an overhead
view of the now bustling harbor, craft village, and landing fields.
When he finally landed, settling in the area that was designated as
the weyrbowl, he settled and crouched low once again.
"Oh look at all that progress," she said leaning forward toward D'hol's ear.
"Mommy you're squishing me," Kielya protested.
Cyradis immediately leaned back "Sorry about that kiddo," she said.
Then they were on the ground. "What's that building," she asked
pointing at a large one that appeared to be three or four stories.
D'hol looked over his shoulder as he unstrapped himself and then
Kielya. "That's the Dining Hall. It houses staff and will house
Candidates once we start Search. We only have a few at the moment.
Just past that..." He pointed to an area that was a flurry of
activity. "That will be the hospital. They're about to roof the
ceiling with red ceramic tiles that are cast at the small hold past
the hills. They are true artisans and I'm surprised that their skill
has been hidden for so long. You'll have to take a look at some of the
vases and other ceramics they produce." He slid down, then offered
both a hand down. "And you'll have to see the hot springs as well."
Cyradis grinned up at D'hol as she slid down into his arms after he'd
set Kielya on the ground and lifted a brow. "Hot springs huh?" She
chuckled and looked admiringly at all the bustling activity. Then she
pointed across the cove. "and what's that over there?"
He bent to whisper in her ear. "If we were alone, I'd provide a
private tour to my favorite one. You might be late getting home, but
you'd enjoy it. " He winked, then looked over to where she pointed.
"Crafter village. It's where everything is made for us. You'd be
surprised how many crafters have been assigned. They're working rather
hard and getting things done quickly. "
"I'm sure," she whispered back and gave him a quick squeeze. "Amazing
the amount of activity though. Wish we'd had that much engagement
from the crafters when we were installing electricity at Dolphin cove.
I hear you have it all through the Weyr from the start. Is that your
hydro plant?" She nodded toward the installation on the other side of
the Weyrbowl on the river. "Nice and close."
"Da can we show mama your new weyr?" Kielya bounced next to her
parents. She was very happy that they were getting along so well
these days. She didn't have to feel like taking sides anymore.
**Yumath, let Saryolth's know we're about to have company. If she's
naked, she might want to get dressed.** Unseen by their daughter,
D'hol gave Cyradis' bottom a quick squeeze in return as he winked down
at her. "It is. It's almost complete. Just a few minor adjustments and
it'll be up and running soon." He glanced down at Kieyla and grinned.
"Sure, sweet. It's much nicer than you can imagine. Our Headwoman
thought of everything." He offered his free hand to Kielya. "It's got
two levels. I'll give you both a tour around the inner caverns. What
do you think?"
Timassa got the message and didn't question it but went quietly into
her room and tossed on a kaftan and closed the door. Ever since he'd
become Weyrleader he'd had more and more visitors and from Saryolth's
description it looked like Cyradis and his daughter this time. She
wasn't going to rock that boat by any means. She liked D'hol too much
for that and besides it meant she could just take a little nap.
"I'd love it," Cyradis grinned up at him and watched their daughter
continue jumping and skipping around them. "She has entirely too much
energy," she shook her head at D'hol.
"I'd love to harness it." D'hol admitted ruefully. "Maybe I can put
her to work with the crafters." He winked at Cyradis; since catching
Riyanth and attaining his goal, D'hol was far less tense, more
relaxed, and at ease. He was almost...cheery. Guiding them through the
lower caverns, he opened the heavy wooden door to his weyr, and
gestured for them to enter. "Take a look. This is the working area.
The living area is upstairs. There's a passage connecting to Kapera's
weyr." Jayzine had spared nothing in the decoration or the appointment
in this area. The large conference table and office seemed luxurious
with thick rugs and carefully crafted wood. Though D'hol had little
need for finery, he could certainly appreciate the effort. It made
working much easier and pleasant.
Cyradis chuckled at his quip but then she drew in a deep breath as she
viewed the weyr and walked slowly into it. "It's so well lighted," she
sighed appreciatively. "The windows are wonderful," she said as she
walked over the beautiful hardwood floors and deep carpets toward
them. "It's beautiful."
"It is." He watched her and Kieyla explore, a proud look on his face
as he saw it anew through their eyes. "It's an interesting layout and
not one I expected, but it works quite well. Upstairs is the living
quarters, but it's three bedrooms and a privy. It's much like this as
far as design and decorations. I definitely can't complain." He
grinned at Cyradis and winked. "Jealous?"
She turned and looked up the staircase to the rooms above and nodded
slowly. "Everything is so new and beautiful," she said and smiled at
him softly. "I am so proud for you D'hol." she said. "You deserve
this."
D'hol approached her and took her hand. "A turn ago, you wouldn't have
said that. Thank you. If you were here more often it might be even
better." His thumb stroked over the back of her hand. "I'd show you
the upstairs, but...Kielya. And Timassa's being kind enough to keep
back, so I'll not intrude. She has the on of the other bedrooms."
"Another time," she smiled and squeezed his fingers. "Besides," she
said, "I like Timassa, she has her head on straight. You deserve all
of this," she said obviously including Timassa in the statement. She'd
seen a difference in the man in front of her and couldn't help but
feel the greenrider had something to do with it. He wasn't so angry
and biting to those around him from what she could see. A bit of
happiness could go a long way, She knew that too well from her own
relationship with K'deren.
"Don't get the wrong idea," He chuckled. "We're not weyrmates. We just
enjoy each other's company and she's a good friend. Besides, I like
having her around and I think I annoy her less than other
bronzeriders." He lifted her hand to his chest. "You still have this."
He then brought her knuckles to his lips in a lingering kiss. "But
thank you." He looked around. "It took long enough to get to this
point, but I'm proud of what we have here. I'm going to work to make
it even better."
Cyradis smiled and shook her head. "and I'm saying it doesn't matter
to what we are together," she smiled and stepped forward to place her
head against his chest. She still barely came up to his shoulder and
they fit together just right. "I'm very glad we found each other again
and got past the noise of our pain." She hugged him tightly. "I am not
going to let anything get in the way of that again."
D'hol wrapped his arms around her and pressed his lips against the
crown of her head. "So am I, love. So am I. I won't either. You and
Kielya mean far too much to me to even think of doing that." He took a
deep breath and just held her, hand stroking down her hair and along
her back. Then he looked over and saw Kielya staring at them. "What?"
She put her fists on her hips and looked at them a little question
between her furrowed brows. "Are you guys going to mate now?"
D'hol nearly choked at first then popped off quickly. "Why? Are you
going to watch, little bit? I don't think that's a good idea."
"I just want to see more of the new Weyr," Kielya said in a tone that
was almost a whine. She turned and almost pressed her nose against the
glass. "Can we look at the lake?"
He bent to whisper in Cyradis' ear. "If only she knew what I have
planned for you next time I get you alone." Unseen by Kieyla, he
lightly nipped Cyradis' earlobe before lifting his head and clearing
his throat. "Yes, Kielya. We can look at the new lake." He shifted
slightly and sighed, looking down at the Goldrider. "Looks like the
tour continues."
Cyradis stifled a giggle... a giggle? she hadn't done that for too
many turms. She turned and cleared her throat, "Of course sweetie,
Let's go look at the lake. Shadow has caught a fish."
That little sound shot through him like a bolt of fire. He glanced
down at Cyradis, shifted uncomfortably, then turned to smile at
Kielya. "Why don't you head down to the Cavern entrance and we'll be
right behind you. Just don't go out on the docks yet. Give us a few
minutes, would you?"
"Sure," Kielya said and ran out of the room.
"Sure you need that long," Cyradis dissolved into uncontrollable laughter.
"Hey!" With a swat on her backside, D'hol scooped her up in his arms
and plopped her on the desk. "I haven't broken in the desk yet. It
needs it." He started working on her belt with jerks of his hands with
a muttered, "Shards, I need it." He fell silent, hearing something
upstairs and scowled upwards, calling out. "For Faranth's sake, stop
laughing, or I swear it'll happen on _your_ desk!"
"Promises promises," floated down from above. Then a door closed and
the laughter was cut off
Cyradis' lightly backhanded D'hol in the chest. "See? I knew I liked her."
D'hol's fingers finally loosened her belt and tugged it open, then
with a sweep of his hand, knocked off the carefully organized stacks
of hides. He couldn't help a chuckle as he wound one hand in her hair,
"Hush, woman," Pressing his lips to hers in a hungry kiss, he bent her
back on his desk, his free hand tugging at her trousers.
Cyradis was still amused by the situation but catching D'hol's heat
she wished she'd worn skirts and tried to help as he pulled and she
drew up a leg to free it.
What followed was an interlude that did indeed serve to introduce
Cyradis to the joys of his desk. While it was hurried, it didn't lack
in intensity or pleasure. When they were finished, he leaned his brow
against her shoulder, panting softly. "Welcome to Barrier Lake,
Weyrwoman..."
