Description: Imarith rises and Alina tries something new
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 12, day 26 of Turn 9
Alina woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Morning was a hazy, grumpy trudge through breakfast and drills, and then Imairth fell deeply asleep as soon as drills were over for lunch. Her rider glared at her; the green dragon's hide was edging from its usual jade to what looked almost like emerald. **She's going to rise.**
Her rider turned on her heel and made her way to the flight cots, where she sat down on a stool and scowled at her feet. Maybe this time would be different... everyone liked flights. Alina often felt like she was missing some big secret. Usually the moment Imarith woke she dived as far as she could into her dragon's mind, losing herself well before the flight was over. It made the rest of it easier, and meant that she didn't remember much once it was over. It was better that way.
But maybe this time _would_ be different. Zith seemed to chase anything that rose, and maybe this time he'd actually catch Imarith. Maybe a flight would be different -- better -- if J'ackt was there to catch them. For a moment she felt a quiver of doubt. Maybe Zith wouldn't bother with Imarith. Maybe his rider was too bored of her... **He'll be here,** she told herself. Alina pulled her braid over her shoulder and ran her fingers across the end nervously.
It wasn't long before Imarith woke, stretched languidly, and leaped into the sky. She trilled her intentions to the Weyrbowl, pausing a moment to see who might come after her before starting to climb.
Dagreth's midnight blue hide gleamed from fresh oiling as he scurried out of his weyrcouch and answered Imarith's call with a brassy warble. Throwing himself from his ledge without waiting for his rider, T'kala came out next, still tugging on clothes as he made for the stairs.
}:Beautiful Imarith,:{ Iorath practically purred with promise as he stretched out his coppery bronze wings and then took to the skies. R'nar was already down at the flight cots and when he walked in to see who the rider was, he immediately wanted to take a step back. Alina was not the most welcoming greenrider he had ever met, prickly was the right word for it, he thought. Maybe the flight lust would loosen her up a bit, he hoped.
A'be was bit surprised when Uljath declared his intentions to chase and win. The pair was still rather new in this green flight-business. He didn't even know who the green's rider was! The blue launched himself after Imarith and A'be was left to make his way to the mating cots.
Rahmuth was veteran of many flights and chased as often as he could. So, the his rider was hardly surprised when the brown took the skies, flying after the glowing green. **Good luck, mate,** Sh'dori told him and went to see who else was chasing this time.
J'ackt joined the throng of men around his weyrmate. Before, he'd always tried to hold Zith back when Imarith rose, unwilling to subject Alina to his lack of restraint during a mating flight. This time however, his eyes locked on Alina with steadily growing desire.
Zith joined the other males without any hesitation. This green was his constant companion and there was little doubt in him that this was the time he would win her.
Imarith swooped and played in the air currants. The sun was hot on her wings and the air cool on her belly. Blue, brown and bronze wings flashed in the midday sun behind her. She trilled and gave her chasers a flirtatious flip of her wings, soaring first near Dagreth, then Rahmuth -- almost near enough to catch before tumbling away. Bronze wings caught her eye as Zith winged closer. Zith-- she liked Zith!
On the ground, Alina resisted the safety of Imarith's mind and the joy of flying free. She stared down the riders around her, her body responding to the flight above. Unconsciously she smiled. She could almost feel the ripple of air beneath her fingertips, the curl of her strong tail-- Imarith's tail-- as they flew. Her skin tingled and when she blinked, she saw clear skies and jewel-bright wings flashing beneath the sun.
Rahmuth roared when she slipped away from his waiting talons. }: Oh, you are wily, my beauty!:{
Uljath was starting to tire. The young blue lacked the stamina of larger and older dragons.
Imairth was beginning to tire, too. She turned her wingtips toward one of the dragons in her wake-- just as a pair of blue wings swept up and she was knocked out of the sky. The green twined her neck happily with her sneaky suitor as Alina eagerly reached for his rider on the ground.
Dagreth's bugle was triumphant as he twined his neck possessively around Imarith's and steered her away from the Weyr and the disappointed pack of males.
Uljath returned to his ledge, disappointed he didn't win.
Rahmuth flew few circles over the Weyr, working out his frustration for coming so close, while his rider enjoyed the company of a flight moth.
Iorath huffed in disappointment, annoyed that a blue had beaten him in his quest for the lovely green. The young bronze dove straight for the Weyrlake while R'nar went willingly into the arms of a flightmoth.
