Thayde

Being back on regular day time shifts and being able to be home in the
evenings with Enamra made Thayde feel like a new man. While he was at
the infirmary working he found his thoughts straying every few minutes
back to his wife at home, wondering what she was doing, and wondering
what new thing he could introduce her to in their bedroom that
evening. It made him feel like those love sick teenagers he saw
walking around the Hall, something that Thayde had never really
experienced before.

While Thayde had often worked longer than his schedule shift before
marriage, he now happily zipped out of the infirmary the moment his
time was up without barely stopping to say hello or goodbye to the
dolphineers changing shifts with him.

"How were harper lessons today?" he asked stopping by the back of her
chair and dropping a kiss to the top of her head when he made it home
and found her at the table with the colored glass that the harper had
given her.

"Going alright. I was able to read one of the primers." The hide had
been made for children, but to her, it was an accomplishment. " I
only got two words wrong, but I know them now. " She seemed only a
little distracted as she rose, gave him a quick liss, then checked
the oven. "It'll be half a candlemark before dinner. How was your
day?"

"It was fine," Thayde said as he pulled out a chair to watch her work.
"Nothing unusual," his eyes traveled down her slender figure. "Have
those new lingerie pieces came in yet?" he asked with a grin.

She stilled and looked over her shoulder at him. The hopeful
expression on his face made her cheeks pinken even as she giggled.
"No. Not yet. You see me naked at night, Thayde, do we really even
need them now that you know what I look like?"

He laughed and held up his hands. "There is _nothing_ wrong with the
sight of you naked, trust me on that one." Thayde thought of the best
way to describe it. "It's like taking the bow off of a package. It's
not that the pretty package needs it, but there's just something extra
about being able to take the bow off. You know?"

"So... it's like you're unwrapping a gift." That made sense, though
she'd never gotten a present with any sort of bow. She'd send them
though. "Part of the fun is the unwrapping. " She flashed him a quick
grin. "You're naughty"

"I am," he agreed. "I think about you all day, and what fun we could
be having, while I'm at work."

She immediately flushed, but there was a hint of pride in that blush
as she straightened and patted her hair. She liked the thought of him
thinking about her during the day; Faranth knew she did the same and
was amazed that she did. She certainly hadn't been raised that way.
The ideas she had previously had about that aspect of married life
were far different than what she was experiencing now. A little
pleased smile lifted her mouth. "Good."

Thayde left his seat and went to wrap his arms around her from behind.
"What are you fixing for dinner?"

Enamra leaned back against him, smiling at the embrace. She loved this
closeness more than anything. She found that she was more happy than
she'd ever dreamed. "I'm trying the roast again. Jylanya told me what
went wrong last time, so I'm trying again. I did put it in a little
later today, so it'll still be about a candlemark before dinner."

"A whole candlemark?" he growled in her ear. "How will we fill the time?"

She squirmed at the breath on her ear, tilting her head to the side
with a breathless laugh. "Chopping vegetables and making sure it
doesn't burn. I don't want to get distracted and _that_ would
definitely distract me."

Thayde groaned in disappointment against her neck, but straightened and pulled his hands back. "Okay, fine, but at least let me chop something. My hands need to keep busy," he winked.

Enamra grinned, twinkles of mischief sparkling in her eyes. She thoroughly enjoyed the thrill of knowing that she could attract him so much. Handing him a knife and pointing to the table at a small pile of tubers. "Small pieces." She moved across three table from him, looking at him with falsely innocent wide eyes. "By the way, Thayde... I'm not wearing anything under my dress. "

Thayde lost his grip on the tuber he was trying to cut and had to rescue it as it rolled across the table. "Oh, you're not?" He commented, looking up at her with heat in his eyes. "And why is that?" He made the first slice of the potato, fortunately not missing this time.

She picked up another tuber, the mischief in her eyes gleaming brightly. With confident hands, she chopped it into small pieces. "Cause I wanted to see what you'd do when I told you about it."

"Did you want the meat to burn? You're on thin ice, my darling." Thayde said, a promise in his husky voice.

She looked down at her tubers, hiding the satisfied smile curling the corners of her mouth. Testing the reactions she got from him was far too fun and far too enjoyable. She should have been ashamed at how forward she was being, but she found that she honestly wasn't. She'd never seen her own parents teasing each other; she wondered if they ever had. She glanced up at him, then pointed at the rivets in his pile. "Chop, please. Unless you only want one thing for dinner. "

A smile curved the corners of his mouth as he refocused on cutting the potatoes, trying to mimic the same dicing method that Enamra had used. "I'd gladly have a sandwich for dinner and my wife for dessert," he said.

That brought an immediate heated flush to her cheeks as her heart began to flutter in anticipation. "Maybe...if I bank the coals it won't burn." She looked at him through her lashes. "It could even take a couple of candlemarks for it to cook. "

Thayde let go fo the knife he'd been using and walked around the table with a hungry gleam in his eyes. "Let's do that."

--

Stretching out on the bed, Enamra sighed softly, a contented smile on
her face. The past few days had been happy and she'd never remembered
smiling so much out being so at ease. The new affection between she
and her husband, the touches and embraces and sweet kisses were
better than she'd ever hoped marriage to be. What she often giggled
about now though, was that her husband suddenly seemed unable to keep
his hands off of her and she liked it. She felt one of those hands
fall on her bare abdomen and she opened her eyes to look at him.
Feeling far more comfortable with him now, she let her own hand
stroke over his shoulder, content in the afterglow of love making.

"We need to talk about something," Thayde said, his voice soft, his
eyes still half-lidded from where he lay between her legs, his elbows
on either side of her narrow hips. He moved his hand and pressed a
kiss to her flat abdomen, a slightly rakish smile moving across his
lips as he looked up at her through his hair.

She giggled at the smile, the same one he'd worn almost every night
when he'd introduced her to something new. It was a part of his
personality that she'd only just discovered, not that she was
complaining. Enamra stroked his hair from his face. "What's that?"

"I think I've been a bonehead again." Thayde said, leaning into the
touch of her light fingers. "I have not even thought to ask if you
have been taking teas or anything like that. We've not talked at all
about children." But he remembered her fear when she had been pregnant
the first time.

Her eyes widened, then she paled with realization. "I hadn't even
thought about it." Her immediate fear warred with the knowledge that
part of her duty was to provide him with children. She stared down at
her belly, the light stretch marks from her previous, unwanted
pregnancy seemed to shine now against her skin. "I haven't been
taking anything. "

Thayde watched as her emotions played out across her face. "I know and
I should have been thinking about that sooner." He was old enough to
know better, he thought. "Do you want to have more children?" he
asked.

She chewed on her lower lip. She didn't want a pregnancy like she'd
had before. She'd been absolutely miserable and she remembered the
fear and pain of labor. There was also the still keen memory of her
mother dying while birthing her brother. "I...Do you want them?"

He was nearing forty and the time to have children was upon him, if he
wanted them, but Enamra was so young and they had just learned how to
enjoy each other. "I do, but it doesn't have to be right away."

"What if I'm already pregnant?" She asked softly. "I could be." The
thought scared her. She wasn't ready, but he _did_ want children. It
was her duty to give them to him. "I'm a little scared to be pregnant
again, Thayde."

Thayde's expression was pained. "I know. I remember what it was like
the first time but... It would be different this time. You didn't have
someone to rub your back," his fingers slid along her bare sides, "or
give you foot rubs. I would be there with you the whole way." And then
he had to say what the healer in him knew should be said. "But if you
are too scared and you are pregnant already, it can be terminated."

She paled and looked sick, then sat up. "No. Absolutely not. I won't
do that. If I am...then ...well, I am. " She looked down at her belly
and hesitantly touched it. "Maybe...maybe it wouldn't be so bad if
it's yours. But it's still scary, Thayde."

He rolled off of her as she sat up and gathered her in his arms. "I know." Thayde hated the fear in her voice. A part of him hoped that she was not, that way they could wait another couple of Turns until the memories of the last pregnancy had faded a bit more, until she was perhaps more comfortable. "But let's not worry about it until we know for sure, okay? Until then, we'll get you on the teas, just in case."

She nodded against his chest, rubbing her cheek against his skin. "Does that mean we can't make love as often? I don't want to stop doing that. I like it."

Considering how scared and hesitant she had been when they first married, her admission to not wanting to stop made Thayde feel good. "Well, we should probably stop until you see the healer and you start the teas." The Master Dolphineer made it a point to get his lovely young wife to the healer first thing in the morning.
