D'ale pulled the last straps into place and called back to the Weyr.
"Darling are you ready?" They were about to embark on an adventure for
him at least. Yanley's brother was getting married and he'd actually
been invited to come with her to the ceremony, not just appear as her
transportation.
He smiled as she came out to the ledge in one of her best gowns. "I
love when you dress like that," he smiled. "My Lady," he gave her an
exaggerated bow.
"You clean up handsome too, my harper," Yanley replied with smile and
playful curtsy. "I can't believe Benamil is getting married at last!"
"I know you were worried about him. But from what they're saying it
was love at first sight. He'd barely met the girl before he asked her
to marry him." D'ale was a sucker for a romantic story. He hadn't been
really before Yanley came into his life. He'd been a typical
dragonrider chasing any skirt and spreading his entertainments far and
wide without entanglements. He wondered briefly of Lord Benamil's son
had been the same way. Of course, it wouldn't have been so easily
available to him in the Hold as it was in the Weyr. "She must be
something," he added as he helped Yanley up into her seat.
Soon they were in the air above Amber Hills Hold and could see the
gather festivities below them. He squeezed her fingers as they came
gliding down into the plaza.
"Yanley!" Benani beamed at her sister. "I'm so happy you could make it."
As soon as they had dismounted, Yanley hurried to hug her sister.
"Benani! It's been too long since the last time!"
"Welcome you two," Benani smiled and hugged her sister. "How's Daley,"
she looked back and forth between Yanley and the dragonman who'd made
her so very happy.
D'ale smiled back at the Lady Holder, his hand possessively on Yanley's waist.
"He's fine, sulking because we didn't bring him along," Yanley
replied. She rather liked the way D'ale was claiming her.
"My fancy Weyr Headwoman sister made it to my wedding," Benamil's face
suddenly appeared over Benani's head, his hand on his sister's
shoulder. Yanley was only his half-sister, but things like that had
never mattered to Benamil. "Ah yes, and the infamous dragonman," he
held his hand out to the brownrider.
"Congratulations Benamil," D'ale smiled and reached out to clasp
hands. "Did she put up much of a fight? I had to do a lot of
persuading to get my lovely Lady to 'mate me." He turned a very warm
gaze on Yanley. "But it's worth the effort right?"
"Oh yes, my bride is absolutely worth the effort. It only took a
little bit of negotiation on my part." Benamil winked at Yanley and
D'ale as he poked Benani in the back, knowing she would get the joke,
since she was one of the only people that knew the truth about his
relationship with Nazli.
"She's lovely," Benani confirmed. "But very shy so don't scare her,"
she pointed at D'ale.
"Me?" His brows rose. "I'm harmless."
"Right, harmless, you lady-thief," Yanley said, giving D'ale a loving
look. She went to give Benamil a hug.
"Congratulations, brother. It was high time you got married. I hope
you will be as happy as I am."
"Thank you, Yanley," he murmured as he hugged his sister. Benamil
stepped back then, noting how happy she looked with her dragonrider. A
small part of him wondered how magical it must feel to live at the
Weyr and be free to love whomever you chose... "I'd best be getting
back to my place or my bride will think I've left her at the altar."
Benani chuckled and took Yanley's arm. "We should get in there too.
It's going to start at any moment. I'm sure Zathris is wondering where
we are." They started walking toward the entrance and Benani hugged
Yanley's arm. "I'm so glad you both could make it. We know it was
rather rushed but they wanted to take advantage of the Gather
festivities."
"What, did he knock her up already?" Yanley asked with a low whisper.
It wouldn't be the first time in their family. She didn't know Nazli,
didn't know anything about her but a name.
"No," Benani chuckled and squeezed her sister's arm. "But I'll tell
you later." It felt just a little disloyal to tell Yanley before
Zathris but she also knew Yanley would be gone back to the Weyr and
she couldn't really take her time figuring out how best to tell her.
"Here are your seats," she said and directed them into the family row
just behind her. "Find me at the feast," Benani said and patted
Yanley's hand.
"Alright," Yanley nodded and arranged her skirts to before sitting down.
Before they knew it, the ceremony started and D'ale watched as Zathris
escorted a radiant bride down the aisle toward Benamil. Their faces
both told a story. D'ale reached out for Yanley's hand. "I wish I
could have given you this," he whispered in her ear.
"That's alright, I already had one grand wedding," Yanley murmured and
squeezed his hand. "I'm going to cry," she warned him, "I always get
teary at weddings." This one was for her brother after all.
He put an arm around her waist and stood close beside her as they
watched her brother marry his new Lady. "I'll always be here for you,"
he told her and pulled out a linen square for her to use on her tears.
