Description: Assigning the weyrlings from Chioneth's first clutch to the wings.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 2, day 28 of Turn 8
Notes: Note: title throwback to "The Snow Queen's Hatching"
K'ran's stride was brisk as he made his way towards the upcoming
meeting. This would be his second time tapping weyrlings into Cyan
wing, and the relative novelty made it exciting. He'd been watching
the weyrlings' final drills when he had a free candlemark, knowing
that soon he'd be welcoming some of Chioneth's clutch into his wing.
He had a few candidates in mind already, though of course it would
depend on other's choices as well.
He made his way into the meeting room and nodded politely as he took a
seat. "Good morning, my duty to your dragons."
"Good morning, K'ran," G'nir greeted from his place at the end of the table.
"'Morning," E'naer replied. His tall, lanky form was bent over to sort
the hide records to piles.
"Sorry I'm late." Saibra apologized as she sailed into the room, a
pleasant smile on her face and a cup of klah in her left hand. She
avoided the empty chair next to G'nir and instead settled into the one
between D'kere and K'ran. **It's so nice having one of these meetings
_without_ J'darin, that big cry baby.** She thought of the former
Weyrlingmaster.
K'ran nodded over at Saibra, slightly surprised by her choice of
seating. "Good morning Weyrwoman, my duty to Chioneth."
He looked down at his hide with the list of a few names on it,
wondering who would speak first in the absence of a full
Weyrlingmaster.
D'kere took the lead with a respectful nod in G'nir's direction, "We
have a relatively large graduating class this go round. We have three
that will have to go to the Queen's Wing because of their age, and one
greenrider that is pregnant."
Saibra leaned in to look at the list as D'kere starred the names of
those he was pointing out. "Alright, got it." She jotted the names
down on her paper.
"There's one Weyrling, a brownrider Z'then, that may need to go to the
Queen's Wing as well."
The Weyrwoman tilted her head, "Why is that?"
"He's a solid rider, over all, smart and hard-working, but he's been
battling a fear of heights so I worry that throwing him into a higher
altitude Wing right away might be unwise." D'kere suggested, looking
to the other Wingleaders for their opinion.
"That makes sense to me," K'ran said with a nod. "If no one objects,
I'd like Ilyssia. Cyan's short on greens again after an injury and
pregnancy transfer."
"I will take the other twin, E'zar, to Azure Wing," G'nir said. "We better
keep those two in different wings. I also need few more blueriders and
greens Any recommendations?" his question was directed to D'kere.
Since Saibra was avoiding him, he was making a point of ignoring her.
He wondered how and when things had turned to that way. They had such
a promising start.
E'naer was busy scribling down the notes and assignments.
D'kere's eyes slid between the stony face Saibra was giving the
Weyrleader, and the noticeable way G'nir did _not_ look at her in
return. **What's up with them?** He cleared his throat a little,
twirling his pencil in his fingers as he tried to ignore the awkward
tension in the room, "Well, I would certainly recommend T'bias, E'vyn,
or O'bres, they're all strong blueriders and then there's Eresdy,
Yresla, and N'rim who are the best of the greenriders."
"I prefer the male greenriders, less likely to get pregnant," G'nir
replied with dry tone.
"If G'nir doesn't want them, I would take Yresla and Eskalla," K'ran
interjected. He could also use a male greenrider and some blues, but
he didn't want to step on the Weyrleader's toes.
Saibra's eyes narrowed when G'nir said that he didn't want the female
greenriders, even though they were at the top of their class.
Regardless of her opinion on the matter, Saibra was not the type of
Weyrwoman that would argue with her Weyrleader in front of others.
Cyradis had taught her that.
"If there's any browns or blues that can be spared for the Queen's
Wing I would appreciate that, it's useful having some larger dragons
in the Wings for rescues, especially with Teseada and Onnyth grounded
during her pregnancy."
D'kere looked down at his list of available Weyrlings, which was
quickly dwindling, "I've got one brownrider and a large blue left that
could go to your Wing, Weyrwoman, if there's no objections?" He looked
up at K'ran and G'nir.
"No objections," G'nir replied.
"None from me, either," K'ran said.
Saibra smiled and wrote the names down on her list, even as D'kere
crossed them off of his.
"That is all of the Weyrlings accounted for unless there's anything
else we need to discuss." D'kere said, looking around the room.
"Nothing I can think of," K'ran said. He mostly just wanted to escape
the environment.
"Well, that went smoothly," G'nir remarked. "Does anybody have any
urgent wing business they want to adress now?" his gaze went around
the meeting table. "If not, then we have a graduation to prepare for."
