Description: Weyrleader meets the new Lady Holder
Location: Elsewhere on Pern
Date: month 9, day 5 of Turn 7
The Weyrleader of the Weyr that protected Sunstone was next on
Xeladrie's list of people to meet. So when she had a free moment, she
refilled her water glass and then drifted over towards him, finally
settling on the outskirts of that conversation and waiting for a lull.
"Weyrleader. I hope your dragon is well. Thank you for honoring us by
being here," she said formally.
"The pleasure is all mine, my Lady," K'sedel said with a smile. "On a day
like this, it truly is a pleasure."
"Thank you so much, sir. It's truly been full of excitement so far."
So many important personages, so much pomp and fuss that would mark
her transition to a married woman and make her leavetaking memorable.
"Excitement can add to the spice of the day," K'sedel said. "It somehow can
make a marriage more special." While he'd attended many weddings in his
time, first as a guest, then in his role as Weyrleader it was his own that
once again that flitted through his memory. It hadn't been anywhere as
elaborate as thius, but there had been love, and that had been enough for
them at the time.
"I hope the excitement will carry through, and the match will be
successful." That at least was an honest sentiment. She wanted to
succeed in parts of it.
"I'm sure it will be," he said. "I can only hope that you two will be as
happy as my weyrmate and I are," K'sedel then waved the lady in question
over to join them. "May I present Ciara, my weyrmate."
Ciara had dressed very conservatively in her best gather dress. Weyr
colors complimented her coloring and her knots showed she was a
greenrider. "A very great pleasure ma'am she smiled with a deep
curtsy.
"Pleased to meet you," Xeladrie said with her own sign of respect. "I hope
you enjoying the hospitality of my father's Hold." No longer hers, not
with marriage.
"Very much," Ciara responded with a smile. She felt a kinship with the
young bride. The age of her groom was about the same age difference as
between her and K'sedel. She didn't know what her challenges would be
but she wished her well. "I hope you will both be very happy," she
smiled and looked lovingly at K'sedel.
Her weyrmate returned the gaze for a moment. "I do too. Sunstone
deserves the best." K'sedel paused for a moment. "Perhaps, once you
and your husband have settled in, you'd like to join us at the Weyr as
our guests for dinner?"
"That would be lovely, sir. I'll have to ask, of course, but I can't see
why he would turn down the chance." It couldn't hurt to acquire the favor
of prominent weyrfolk, could it?
"I know I would be excited to see the Weyr."
Ciara was nodding to K'sedel's invitation, but then saw the Lord
Holder and dropped another pretty curtsy.
Bryvin smiled as he came up behind his wife. "Weyrleader," he nodded
at K'sedel. The man had been very accommodating when they'd found out
about Lord Morin's passing. He'd heard his wife's last comment of
course. "I'm sure we can arrange a visit," he nodded at both riders.
Xeladrie smiled up at him and touched his shoulder gently. "I think that
would be excellent, my Lord husband."
"Milord," K'sedel nodded in greeting. "As soon as it is appropriate, we'll
organise it, I look forward to you both joining us to sample the delights of
our kitchens."
Bryvin looked down indulgently at his bride. "I think that would be
wonderful. Have you ever been on dragonback my dear?" He himself had
rarely been but he thought it likely that would change now that his
position had. Particularly for an invitation to dinner with
Riverbluff's Weyrleader and his 'mate. "I look forward to it."
"Twice. I look forward to experiencing it again, it's so high up.
Dizzying, but the dragons are strong." Empty-headed flattery, it sounded
like.
Ciara smiled at the young Lady Holder. "I'd be happy to take you up
sometime if you want to go for a joyride. That is if it's alright with
you My Lord," she suddenly remembered her Holder manners.
"Not at all," Bryvin smiled. "I'm sure my wife would enjoy it."
"My Weyrmate is a very experienced rider," K'sedel said. "You would be
very safe with her."
Bryvin would allow her to take a ride on a dragon... She hadn't
expected that measure of freedom, and the idea was doubly exciting.
Xeladrie pressed his hand and beamed at him, before turning the same
smile on Ciara. "Thank you so much for this opportunity."
"I'm sure she'll be in safe hands," Byrvin smiled indulgently and
squeezed back. **Happy wife, happy life,** he remembered his father
say many times. And it had been true in their household. His mother
had been indulged and in response pampered his father and her
children. Though there were lines she could not cross nor did she
try. Perhaps these small favors would result in the same for his own
household. But it was too early to tell.
Ciara as well threw a grateful smile at K'sedel then turned back to
Xeladrie. "It is my pleasure my Lady," she said.
