Physical Description of Persona:
Ryalane has been told more than once that she could be a very attractive woman if she put her mind to it, but she prefers to cultivate a very serious demeanor. Her long red hair is always scraped back into a knot that looks somewhat painful, which could account for the fact that she never seems to be happy. Her blue eyes sit under constantly furrowed eyebrows. She wears dark, serious clothing which is often ill-fitting and clearly not her first priority.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Ryalane has a very prickly personality, and very few friends. She is possessed of a towering resentment towards all women who are capable of bearing children and for some reason decide other things are more important, and considers such women to be hardly women at all. Everyone has a place, as far as Ryalane is concerned, and those who remain in their place she treats with courtesy. Those above her receive her respect, though Lord Aswic has also earned her absolute loyalty.

History of Persona:
Ryalane was born at Garnet Valley Hold, the daughter of a guard and a cook. From the time she could walk she was taught to make herself useful, running errands in the kitchen or carrying messages from the cook to the Headwoman. A strict work ethic and an honest love of being useful could have lead to a successful career in a craft, but Ryalane never wanted any such thing.

She was married at sixteen to the son of one of the gardeners, and took her duty to assist in repopulating the Hold very seriously. At first she and her husband brushed off concerns when she didn't conceive. By her twentieth birthingday they were concerned enough to consult a healer, but it became clear over the next few turns that Ryalane would not be having any children. Her husband refused to put her aside, despite Ryalane's insistance that it would be better for him to find a new wife. Her desire to help in repopulating the Hold was not quite strong enough to overcome her early lessons that a husband is to be obeyed in all things.

With one method of contribution closed to her, Ryalane did her best to find other ways to contribute to the Hold. Her quick mind and willingness to work caught the attention of the Headwoman, and she became one of her assistants.

When Verora betrayed the Hold and Lord Holder, Ryalane and her husband were caught in the chaos. He was murdered, and she was beaten nearly to death. Now she is recovering as best she can, for life had one last surprise for Ryalane: she finally concieved her much-desired child, only now faces a future without the father.
