Physical Description of Persona:
Two words immediately come to mind at first glance of Maeryld: ample and dark. Standing at only 5’4, with a body thickened from mothering, Maeryld emanates maternal warmth through her open smiles and expressive gestures. Black eyes match long black hair, which she usually braids in some intricate crown. Colorful jewelry and clothing contrasts her dark klah skin. Her voice is a rich alto, sultry when she wants it to be or a ringing commanding tone as only a mother can pull off.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Maeryld exudes the confidence of someone who is going in the direction of her dreams yet feels both thrilled to be doing it and terrified that she has sacrificed too much. She keeps a ‘fake until you make it’ mentality wrapped around her to keep the doubts at bay. This is also hidden by her great work ethic and quick mind, two traits that have helped her get as far as she has.

She is a warm, nurturing person but also one who can play the scolding mother card at the drop of a hat. Her favorite things to do are clean her space (everything in its place and a place for everything) and cook (happy bellies are the key to a happy life). She loves the beach and spending time with friends and family. Maeryld doesn’t believe in hiding any of her other feelings so expect to see her loud in both anger and laughter.

History of Persona:
Born at Coral Bay Hold, Maeryld spent her childhood on the beach, helping seacrafters, and learning the art of cooking from her mother. She will laughingly say that she fought with her siblings, got into too much trouble, and ate too many sweets, but look, she turned out alright! Typical childhood things. She loved that time of her life.

It wasn’t until her teenage Turns that she realized something was amiss. Her brothers were given extra freedoms, expected to learn crafts and go out into the world, while Maeryld and her sister were increasingly restricted. A different sort of expectations were piled on them. And while Maeryld looked forward to some aspects of being an adult, she noted more and more which freedoms she did _not_ have as an adult.

She thought to busy herself with being a loving mother. And that worked for many Turns, as she spent her time feeding, chasing, mending, scolding, teaching, and hugging her children. Her husband was dutiful in providing for them but it felt as though everything in her life fell just shy of the mark, just enough for her to notice. Was this all to her life?

By the time her youngest was beginning to think about apprenticing, Maeryld had realized that she could no longer live under these constraints. The announcement that Healer Hall was accepting women into its craft ranks presented the perfect opportunity. Yes, the fight with her husband was terrible and her children now probably hated her for abandoning them (even though they were old enough to make their decisions), but Maeryld found a ship that would take her to the new Healer Hall at Amber Hills to chase her dream.
