Physical Description of Persona:
Though handsome as a young man, Turns of excess followed by Turns of hardship have marked Edevor deeply. Naturally fair-complexioned, his work outdoors has darkened and lined his skin, leaving it tough and callused. He is strongly built and of medium height, and his hair is thinning and almost entirely iron-grey with only a few strands of dark brown remaining. Only his deep-set brown eyes remain the same - as avaricious and calculating as ever.
Emotional Description of Persona:
Edevor has a certain cunning that passes for intelligence and a way about him that makes him easy to trust. He despises honest work as suited only to those too stupid to make their own way in the world, and only engages in it when he has no other option or wishes to play the role of an upstanding man.
Feeling cheated of the life of luxury he believes he deserved, his sole motivation now is to make the lives of those who took it from him a misery.
History of Persona:
Edevor was the only son of a Northern minor holder and his wife. His mother, always delicate, was weakened by his birth and was advised by the healers to take herbs to avoid another pregnancy. Though saddened, his parents consoled themselves with their only child and made sure that he always got what he wished - fine clothes, luxurious furnishings for his quarters, an expensive runnerbeast - even if it stretched the resources of the holding to do so.
When the young man was eighteen, his father died unexpectedly, leaving him as the sole heir to the holding, and his grieving mother did not long survive her husband. His natural impulse to spend freely, however, was checked by the steward, who warned the young man of the precarious state of the hold's finances. Not wishing to give up his extravagant lifestyle, Edevor acted quickly and courted the widow of a wealthy neighbour - a woman sixteen Turns his senior. The marriage, combining their two holds, gave him the means to live as he pleased, and the cautious steward was sent away.
Two Turns later, his daughter Verora was born. While he despised his wife, who died not much later, the child delighted him and when he remembered her existence he showered her with gifts. As she grew up, he relinquished control of the hold's management, which had always bored him, to her and settled down to enjoy the rest of his life with a supply of excellent food, wine and a string of mistresses.
Even the income of two substantial holdings, however, was not enough to satisfy the demands of Edevor and his daughter, and eventually it came to the notice of the Lord Holder that their holders were suffering to satisfy their demands. The two of them were imprisoned until they could be tried, but Verora managed to escape and Edevor was left to face the charges alone. He was stripped of his rank and sentenced to work as a simple fieldhand in order to pay off the debt he owed.
Soft, overweight and unused to hard labour, Edevor suffered badly in the first Turn of his punishment. Only thoughts of revenge - both on the Lord and on his treacherous daughter - sustained him.
Ten Turns passed, and Edevor was finally given his freedom to leave if he chose. Judging it suicidal to attempt to harm the Lord Holder, he left in search of his daughter. Turns passed without his finding a trace of her, until in a seahold he found a captain who remembered taking the young woman to the Southern Continent.
The return of Thread curtailed his search, and he had almost given up hope and resigned himself to life as a labourer when he overheard a conversation about the new Headwoman at Garnet Valley Hold - a woman named Verora, whose description matched that of his missing daughter perfectly. Edevor left his current home in the night and, with the little he'd saved, began the journey to Garnet Valley to confront her.
