History
The Beastcraft Hall was founded twenty turns after the end of the Ninth Pass. It was decided that the Hall would be located near Opal Cove Hold.
Animals of Pern
Aquatic
- Packtail -- similar to Terran monkfish
- Fingertail -- a small carp-like fish
- Spiderclaw -- a crab-like creature
- Red Fin -- a large game fish
- Bloodfish -- a parasite
- Snail -- a hard-shelled creature
- Dolphin -- also known as shipfish
Bees
- There are no bees. Bees were brought to Pern, but died out early on. The trundlebug is the most common pollinator on Pern.
Avians
Wherries are a native Avian inhabitant of Pern. They were named by the Exploration and Evaluation Corps team, for they look like airborne barges - squat, fat and full, similar to the vessels that were used to ferry stuff between the English isle and the European continent on old Earth.
- Wherries are very aggressive carnivores, and like most other Pern animal life, have six limbs - two wings and four legs. They have downy tufts of proto-feathers covering membranous wings. They turn aggressive if one of their kind is hurt. Males are called bucks and females are called hens.
- There are two types, inland and sea side; the sea side ones have a fish-like taste and have a large layer of fat just below their skin which is good for making oil to soothe fire lizard and dragon hide.

- Wher -- a dragonlike creature with small wings

- Wild Felines -- various sizes and hide patterns
- Whersport
- Tunnel Snake -- several types of these, both with skin and with scales.
- Water-dwelling species of Tunnel Snakes -- poisonous
Insects
- Buzzing Fly
- Firefly
- VTOL -- so-named for its Vertical Take-Off and Landing
- Bedbug -- a stinging pest
- Crawlie -- a tiny creatures with suction cup feet
- Rollie -- similar to a wood louse
- Spring -- an insect that hangs in a spiral loop until it attaches to someone. It can give a prickly irritating bite that must be treated with antiseptic cream.

- Sandworm -- a burrowing worm
- Earthworm -- a burrowing worm
- Trundlebug -- a pollinator and soil tiller that eats parasites and is very colorful

Hall Schedule
Apprentices
Beastcraft Hall requires all of its members to be involved in the education process. The following is a typical day for the apprentices:

Journeymen
- Journeymen have more relaxed schedules, at least with regards to lights out and free time. Journeymen resident at the Hall receive a new assignment each month, within the confines of the Hall and Opal Cove Hold's area. Any journeyman assigned elsewhere will be responsible for whatever duties his current position requires at that location.
Masters
- Masters have permanent assignments and are given more free time to pursue their individual projects.
