Triad Info[1]

Description:

Adonis is a graceful plant, growing about a foot in height. The flowers bloom in early summer and last throughout the summer. The blooms are brilliant scarlet and black. The leaves are finely cut, and the plant is an annual. The seeds appear in late summer and early autumn.

Habitat:

Adonis can grow in almost any soil, preferring sunny locations, but will prosper in the shade as well. It should always be sown where it is preferred to grow, as it does not transplant well.

Healer use:

The flowering tops of adonis are the source of a potent heart drug more powerful than that of foxglove and is more successful in treating those who also have kidney disease. It should only be used after foxglove has failed, as it produces vomiting and diarrhea more often than foxglove. An extract of the leaves can be made which neutralizes the heart chemical in case of accidental poisoning. It is recommended for patients who are allergic to, or addicted to, fellis, though it is not as potent a painkiller.

Special notes:

Adonis should not be used by anybody less than a Senior Journeyman Healer. It is a dangerous herb and should only be grown by Healer-trained farmers. It can be fatal if misused.
