Uetia sat on the dock, arms wrapped around her knees, chin resting on top of them. She stared to the sea, pouting. Sabonus had done it again. He had taken a ship assignment, gone to the sea. That it happened before Orlaith's Clutching could be coincidence...or not. Sabonus didn't seem to want to Impress.
A warm hand pressed gently down on her shoulder. "You look like the loneliest girl in all of Pern." Jayonne's eyes looked thoughtful as he sat down beside her.
"Hi Jayonne, I feel like loneliest girl in Pern," Uetia replied with mournful voice.
"Ah Uetia...." Jayonne swallowed, hard, trying to push past the sudden lump in his throat. He had seen the ships leaving this past morning, there was a clutch to come. He knew what this meant, it was a repeating pattern, after all. If only Sarbonus knew what a special woman Uetia was. If only Jayonne could knock that into the man's thick skull.
But that wasn't his nature. Instead he reached out and took Uetia's hand in his, as any close friend would do. He wanted more, so much more, but it didn't matter. Her happiness was the most important thing.
Uetia's fingers curled around his. Just him being there was making her feel better. "So, I'm in definite need of cheering up. Do you have any suggestions?" she asked, trying to force herself out of the moping mood.
"We could go for a walk, look for a flit egg? My brother decided he needs a gold flit." Jayonne rolled his eyes at the thought of J'zen with a flit, any flit.
"Sure. But do you realize how rare it is to find a wild clutch? And this near the Weyr? All the beaches are fine combed by the weyrbrats, every daily," she replied. She got up to her feet and felt sudden dizziness. The horizon seemed to go up and down in front of her eyes. "Whoa!" she swayed and grabbed Jayonne's shoulder for support.
"Hey, you okay?" Jayonne wrapped his arm around her waist to keep her from falling over. Concerned, he peered into her eyes. "You're pale." Actually, she looked lie she was going to be ill.
"Feeling bit lightheaded," Uetia shrugged it off. Maybe she had been bit queasy this morning too.
"Yeah, let's sit you back down again." Gingerly he placed her back on the seat, making a mental note to ask either Jaylene or J'zen to ask their green about her.
Uetia glared at him. "I'm not sitting down, I'm fine. I'm not some weak damsel in distress from the hold," Uetia was almost as prickly as when Sirjath was about to Rise.
"Sorry Uetia, it's just you're as white as a sheet. Can I at least get you a glass of juice, or a meatroll?"
"Are you trying to fatten me up?" Uetia asked.
"I--uh--" Jayonne flapped his hands at his sides and look at her, helpless.
"Come on, let's go for that walk," Uetia set out with a brisk pace. Her nausea had obviously passed.
"O-okay." Jayonne was starting to look like the one who wasn't well.
"Are you coming?" Uetia stopped enough to cast a glance over her shoulder.
"Yep, I'm coming." Jayonne made a move to take her by the hand but was afraid she'd take it the wrong way and drop his hand at the last moment.
They walked in a silence for a while. Uetia's eyes kept straying towards the ocean.
Jayonne wisely walked silently beside her.
