Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 8, day 12 of Turn 7
Saibra waited until most of the crowd had headed in the direction of
the festivities before approaching Jenackt. She was proud but not
surprised that he had impressed to the bronze dragonet on the Sands.
Who knew? Maybe Zith would grow up and fly Chioneth some day.... That
thought alone made her smile a bit.
"Congratulations, J'ackt." His contracted name felt strange to her tongue.
He turned his head at the familiar voice and immediately broke into
one of his rare smiles. He'd been smiling so much that his cheeks
hurt, but he couldn't seem to stop. "Saibra. Thank you." He looked
down at the sated hatchling beside him and lowered his hand to place
it on the little bronze's head. "This is Zith."
}: And who is this? :{ Zith yawned, already tired. He'd met several
people already and was becoming rather bored with whole affair.
**Saibra. A good friend. She is Chioneth's rider.**
The name was certainly short and to the point. Saibra looked away from
the bronze dragonet to the young man standing before her. No more
lessons, she thought, he was ready to be on his own.
"Well met, Zith." Her eyes never left J'ackt's, "Were you surprised?"
"Very." He met her gaze, his blue eyes intense. "I thought N'vanik was
wrong about me. That I was nothing." He shrugged and then looked down
at Zith, his face visibly warming as he laid a light hand on Zith's
head. The bronze crooned up at him. "Not the first time I've been
wrong, but definitely better results."
"If it means anything I am not surprised at all. I think it a very
suitable match." Saibra knew first hand how a dragon could change
one's life. She had been a wreckless, irresponsible girl of fifteen
when she had impressed Chioneth.
"It means a lot." He stroked Zith's head lightly. "Only you, N'vanik,
Cyradis and...Saidrene thought I was worth anything." He paused. "Is
everything okay with you two?"
Saibra looked thoughtful for a moment, "It will never be what it once
was, but it is getting better. I think it's good for her to have
impressed here, away from the influence of her mother. Now she can
just be a greenrider and not the Weyrwoman's Daughter."
He nodded. It would most likely be awkward between the two of them,
but it wasn't as though he hadn't dealt with awkward before. He looked
back at Saibra and gave a slight grin. "So, this means I'll have to
behave for a while." His eyes glinted. "But as soon as I can, you'll
have a visitor."
"Just try to behave yourself during Weyrlinghood." She grinned and
then added, "And I expect a dance tonightat the Hatching Feast. You
are a bronzerider now, it's your duty." She winked.
"I'll be myself." He replied simply and with a shrug, then errantly
blew his hair from his brow. "Can't dance."
Saibra shook her head, not envying the Weyrlingmaster, "I will teach
you. I am good teacher." She winked, "Besides, it's not that different
from the footwork you use for sword fighting."
"You are indeed." J'ackt flashed a smile. "I guess I can have a go at it."
"Good. I will leave you to your dragonet then and see you at the
feast." Saibra felt as if it was a night of goodbyes but she felt
calmer about it than she had anticipated.
"See you there...Weyrwoman." He winked and turned back to Zith, who
eyed Saibra then him.
