Description: K'lvin takes Bahji to the Healers about her teas
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 8, day 10 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Reeva, E'rae
True to his word, K'lvin made a point to clear his schedule for a bit
so that he could take Bahji down to the healers and see about getting
her some new herbs for her teas. The last thing that was needed was
another pregnancy. Not because K'lvin wouldn't welcome a child with
Bahji, he would, but because she wasn't ready and neither was her
body.
"Did you remember to bring your old teas?" K'lvin asked as they walked
together to the infirmary.
Tucking one hand in his arm, she nodded, lifting up the small satchel
in her hand. "Yes. I really don't think they go bad, K'lvin. I mean, I
know you want to, I want to too...but it just might not be safe for a
while."
"Oh, it had better be that you have been given bad teas or I may very
well shrivel up and die." K'lvin teased in a dry voice as he opened
the door to the infirmary for her and escorted her through with a hand
to the small of her back. He only hoped that Reeva was not working. He
couldn't stand that woman.
"Hello there," a male voice said, and K'lvin sighed with relief, "how
can I help you," he looked to K'lvin's shoulder knots, "Wingleader?"
"I am actually here with her," he tilted his head to the woman at his side.
"Of course, what can I do for you ma'am?"
That made her give a little smile. What they had done had been nice
and had eased the need she and he had felt, but it hadn't been that
bone deep satisfaction either. But it had helped return a bit of the
bond they had once shared. She turned towards the male voice and held
out the little sack of herbs. "Do the uhm...teas go bad? Or just stop
working?" Riveenata had said they could fail, but hers had failed
spectacularly.
The healer's brows furrowed and he took the bag curiously, "Come on
over to my desk and I will see what we have here."
K'lvin led Bahji over to the healer's desk and into one of the chairs
there. He stood behind her, his hands on her shoulders as he watched
the healer.
"My name is Kyve by the way." The man said as he opened up the pouch
and poured the contents of the pouch into his hand where he could see
them better.
"K'lvin, and this is Bahji." The Wingleader answered, more interested
in the herbs than in names.
"Well, this is odd. Are you sure you grabbed the right pouch, ma'am?"
Kyve asked, looking up at Bahji, "Because these herbs are for an upset
stomach."
"It's a pleasure to..." Bahji's voice trailed away as the man spoke.
"What? Those were the ones I was given. Here at the infirmary." Her
face showed her confusion and understandable upset. "You mean...I was
given the wrong tea? I've been taking the wrong tea?"
Kyve nodded, even as K'lvin's mouth dropped open, "If these are the
ones you have been taking, then yes, they are the wrong herbs."
K'lvin's jaw tightened as he recalled Eirlira's leering taunt about
blind people mixing up their teas, "It would be easy then for someone
to switch her teas without her knowing?"
The healer considered that, "Yes, I suppose. I don't know why anyone
would want to do that, but you wouldn't be able to tell by the taste
that the teas were different."
Bahji voice was soft. "I really wouldn't know the difference anyway.
I'd never taken the teas before that sack. " She shook her head and
turned it towards K'lvin. "I don't think anyone would have switched
them. Maybe it was just a mistake." She turned back to Kyve. "You
mean...if I take the real teas, they would probably work? I
thought...I thought that they just didn't work on me..." She sat back,
more than a little stunned.
"Oh no, the real teas should work on basically any woman. I mean, that
is what they are designed to do." Kyve stood. He still couldn't
believe that a healer would mistakenly give the woman the wrong teas,
but he also didn't like to think that an anonymous person would switch
them either. "Let me get you the proper teas."
K'lvin gave Bahji's shoulder a squeeze, "This is sort of good news,
though, right? It means we can't start having sex again."
Bahji nodded numbly as she heard Kyve stand and her head turned
slightly. "All this time...I thought it was because there was
something wrong with my body and teas...This didn't have to happen at
all." Her lower lip trembled. It was because of stupid mistake that
she had gotten pregnant and the mistake hadn't been hers. Just herbs.
The wrong herbs. Her stomach clenched with a flash of anger before she
closed her eyes to take a deep breath. It wouldn't help getting angry
about it now. She swallowed and tried to think positively. "Yes. I
suppose we can."
The bronzerider kneaded her shoulders gently with his thumbs. He might
not fully understand the way Bahji was feeling, but he understood the
anger, because he was angry himself. His anger made him more
determined than ever to make sure that such a mistake did not happen
again.
"Here we are," Kyve returned with a sack, "and I swear on my newborn's
life that these _are_ the correct herbs."
K'lvin took the sack from the man and placed them in Bahji's hands,
"Thank you for your help, Kyve."
"Of course, I am only sorry the mistake ever happened in the first place."
Her fingers curled around the sack. "Thank you. Will you..." She took
a deep breath and rose. "will you ask Reeva or another Master Healer
to look into this mistake please? It caused a quite a bit of pain that
shouldn't have happened." She turned to K'lvin and took his hand,
leaning against him for a bit
of support.
Kyve's face and voice was sympathetic, "Of course ma'am."
K'lvin nodded to the other man as he escorted Bahji out of the
infirmary, "Bahji, I don't think your mixed up teas were as a mistake
any more than your fall down the stairs." He said honestly as they
walked.
She frowned, fingering the satchel in her hands. "Why would someone do
it, though? I didn't do anything to anyone. And being with child, I
wanted it. Maybe someone was trying to help..." Her shoulders slumped.
"I don't want to think someone wants to hurt me, K'lvin."
"I know but I think we shouldn't rule out the possibility. I don't
want to see you hurt." K'lvin didn't want to come off as
overprotective, but he _did_ want to protect Bahji and he wasn't going
to dismiss a plausible notion. He just might not talk so openly about
it in front of her.
"I'd rather not be hurt again, but I'm not going to hide. I think I've
done enough of that." She thought for a fleeting moment that maybe
E'rae had had something to do with it, but then, remembering his
reaction to her pregnancy, she dismissed it just as quickly. Her
finger curled against his arm and she leaned her head against him as
they walked. "So, I'll keep the teas safe."
"In my weyr?" He suggested gently, not wanting to seem forceful, but
he worried that without her sight someone could tamper with them and
she would never know.
She considered that. "I'll have to come to your weyr every morning
then when I get my own quarters at the Weaver Craft area. It's
probably time that I give D'arvn and U'fo their weyr back to
themselves."
"Or, you could just stay with me?" K'lvin suggested. It was an idea he
had thought on a lot since Bahji's return to the Weyr. He just hadn't
had the guts until that moment to actually ask and face rejection.
That brought Bahji to a stand still, her eyes widening in surprise.
"Stay with you?" Her mouth dropped open in surprise.
"I...well...uhm...as in, live with you? Like a weyrm.." She turned to
him, blinking rapidly. "Are you asking what I think you are?"
Was that what he was asking? For a weyrmate? He knew he wanted to look
after Bahji and take care of her... love her and maybe some day in the
future they could talk about children again..."Yes, Bahji, I am."
Tears filled her eyes and her lower lip trembled as she faced him.
"Really? This isn't just because you feel responsible for me? Or
because you're trying to make things up to me?"
"Really," he cupped her face in his hands, "it is because I love you
and more importantly, I hate being apart."
The tears spilled over her cheeks and dripped onto his fingers as she
lifted her free hand to lay against one of his. She sniffed and
nodded. "Yes. Yes yes..." She flung herself forward, wrapping her arms
around him and burying her face into his chest.
K'lvin smiled, enveloping her slight form in his arms and kissing the
top of her head. He hadn't known for sure if she would say yes. "Well
then, let's go back to _our_ weyr so you can take those teas." The
grin on his face was clear in his voice.
She nodded but didn't let him go.
