Saibra was still a little uncertain about her decision to leave
Dolphin Cove but with the appearance of Kapera she felt as if she
wasn't really needed any more. In her opinion three goldriders had
been company but four was a crowd. Besides, Dragonsfall needed an
experienced goldrider as Weyrwoman, and Saibra fit the bill.

She was cleaning out her desk drawers when she heard the door open and
click quietly closed again. Saibra glanced up with a grin, already
knowing who it was, "Jenackt."

Jenackt looked at her, staying near the door and no smile on his face. "When?"

The grin faded from her face, and she sighed a bit, "Tomorrow."

Jenackt shoved his hands in his pockets. "I don't want you to leave."

Saibra ran a hand over her face, "I don't really want to go, Jenackt,
but I feel as though I don't really have a choice."

There was an instant scowl. "This is another politics thing, isn't
it?" Arms crossed over his chest. "If you don't want to go, then
don't. Stay here."

"It's not that easy, Jenackt. Besides, another Weyr needs me... Or
well, an experienced goldrider." Saibra's mouth tipped downward as she
tapped one perfectly manicured nail on her desk.

He relaxed his arms and ran a hand through his hair, then rubbed his
temple. "Shaffit. I like being around you. I like spending time with
you. " There was a pause. "This bloody well blows wher balls!"

This earned him a laugh and a smile, "I will miss your way with words.
I doubt anyone at Dragonsfall will speak to me that way."

Stepping forward, Jenackt tilted his head as he made his way to the
desk to stand closer. "Is that all you'll miss?"

Saibra's eyes roved over Jenackt's visage, "Oh, there is much more
that I will miss."

Without warning, he tugged her over to him to press her close. "You'll visit?"

This earned him a smile, "Of course I will visit, and should you ever
decide to visit Dragonsfall, there will be a place for you to stay."

"Do you have time for a longer goodbye?" Jenackt's eyes watched her
mouth as his fingers slid over her waist with confidence.

Saibra felt her body react immediately to Jenackt's touch. She was
going to miss her time spent with Jenackt. It wasn't as if she were
going to go to Dragonsfall and try to find new young man. Saibra
considered what had taken place between her and Jenackt a
once-in-a-lifetime situational opportunity. So if this was going to be
their goodbye, Saibra was going to make it count.

"For you? Of course."

He didn't waste time. Immediately he lowered his mouth to hers, his
kiss hungry. His hands twitched before he palmed her bottom to lift
her and turn to seat her on the desk.

Hooking her legs around his waist, Saibra returned Jenackt's kiss with
matching hunger, breaking only briefly to shed her blouse and tug his
shirt over his head. The garment was tossed carelessly aside as she
ran one hand down the front of the candidate's toned torso, her
fingers tracing every outline on their way down to his belt.

There was an immediate groan as she touched him, his reactions primed
by her knowledge of his body. He didn't want to think about not
having her again after this; he had quickly gotten used to
experiencing her skill and sensual affection. Her skin was hot, but
silky and it seemed as though his hands could not get enough of the
feel of her.

He pulled away long enough to slowly push her back on to the desk and
lowered his mouth to the curve of her breast, settling himself firmly
in the cradle of her thighs.

Saibra was uninhibited as usual, and gave herself freely to Jenackt,
moaning softly while arching up into the warmth of his mouth. Her
fingers combed through his hair as hot desire swept through her
abdomen. The sound of a sharp gasp made Saibra frown. Usually _she_
was the one gasping when she was with Jenackt, and the sound had not
come from her.

Then it hit her like a bolt of lightning. The door. It was unlatched.
Saibra's eyes shot open and she froze as she locked eyes with her
teenage daughter, who stood at the door, her eyes wide with shock.

The gasp sounded so familiar that at first Jenackt didn't pause in his
adoration of Saibra's skin. It wasn't until she stopped moving that he
realized that something was wrong. His brow knit as he lifted his
head. "What's wr..." His eyes followed hers and found Saidrene. He
went completely still, muscles bunched tight. "Oh feck me running."

Saidrene felt incapable of moving, it was as if the soles of her feet
were rooted to the ground. The image of her mother spread out beneath
Jenackt, and on her desk no less, was an image Saidrene knew would be
seared into her mind forever. The dark stab of betrayal and hurt that
pierced her chest made it nearly impossible to breathe.

**My boyfriend is sleeping with my mother.** The words reverberated
inside of her head. Who else knew she wondered? How long had they been
hiding it?

Anger licked up at her insides, even as she watched her mother push up,
her dark hair spilling around her bare shoulders, "Saidrene." Her
mother began.

"DON'T!" Saidrene shouted, throwing her hand up at her mother to
silence her, "I guess you were right after all, Mother. It _was_ a
good decision to abort Jenackt's baby! You said he didn't care for me
in that way, and just look at how right you were!" She spat before
stepping back, "You two deserve each other after all." Saidrene
whirled and left, slamming the door shut behind her as she went.

He had been about to talk when Saidrene let the proverbial heavy shoe
drop and he stepped back, stunned. Jenackt blinked, her words crashing
through his brain. Baby. Aborted baby. He jerked when the door slammed
and his eyes twitched as he turned to Saibra. "Baby?"

For a heartbeat Saibra sat frozen, her eyes still staring at the place
where Saidrene had been. Her eyes slid shut for a moment before she
looked at Jenackt, "Yes, Jenackt, a baby." She reached for her shirt.
There was no guilt in the goldrider over what she and Jenackt had
done, only guilt that she was the source of her daughter's pain.

He didn't move, but just stared at her. His voice was hoarse. "There
was a baby and no one told me?" His hand twitched. "You didn't tell
me. She didn't tell me. Don't you think I should know about that sort
of thing?"

A pained expression crossed Saibra's face as she buttoned up her shirt
and flicked her hair out from under her collar, "It wasn't my place to
tell you, Jenackt." She said simply, and then sighed, "I am sorry.
Saidrene came to me one night in tears and told me that she was
pregnant. We both knew that she wanted to Stand, and if she were
pregnant that would not be allowed. She's seventeen, and you are just
trying to get your life together here at the Weyr. Would you have
really wanted the baby?"

His voice came softly. "It was family. The only family I had." He
looked up at her and swallowed. "I would have taken care of my
family." He turned and with jerky motions picked up his shirt and
yanked it over his head, shoving his arms through the sleeves so hard
that the sound of tearing cloth was heard.

Saibra swallowed past the sudden dryness in her throat, "It is not
Saidrene's fault. You should know, she wanted the baby very much, but
I convinced her that aborting it was for the best." She could see
clearly now that it had not been for the best, but hindsight was
twenty-twenty.

When he finally turned back to face her, his expression was stony and
distant. "Doesn't matter now, does it? The baby is gone. Both of you
decided it. She could have said no." He walked past her and opened the
door, back stiff. "I hope both of you enjoy Dragonsfall." He opened
the door, stepped out into the hall and shut it firmly behind him.

For the second time that evening, Saibra stared at the door as a
person she loved walked through it. Climbing off her desk, Saibra
flung open the wine cabinet and pulled out her oldest vintnage.
Uncorking the bottle, she turned it up to her lips as she passed from
her office into her weyr.

"Saibra," she spoke to herself, "you are quite possibly the worst
human being on the face of Pern." She raised the bottle in cheers to
her own statement as she flung herself down on her couch, and lifted
the bottle back to her lips again, "Bon voyage Dolphin Cove."
