Cyradis

It was time for their regular meeting to discuss various Weyr matters,
but N'vanik had something else on his mind. "Could I start with
something personal?" he asked Cyradis as they took their seats in the
council room.

"Sure," she said as she organized her hides. They're relationship had
fallen into a better pattern with the new term for her Weyrleader. She
actually thought it was a good sign that Panitath had the same leader
for consistency's sake at the very least.

"Jeyme is pregnant, and with the timing of her flight... it could be
mine." He felt a tiny bit guilty, trying to use Cyradis like this, but
he needed to make D'hol see reason. "D'hol is bullying her into
denying me. He says I can't have any contact with the baby." N'vanik
wished he could just punch him, or kick him out.

She looked seriously at N'vanik. "I'm very sorry," she said with
feeling. "I know how difficult he can be when he sets his mind to it."
She rubbed a finger against her lips. "I don't know if I can do any
good." The one thing D'hol wanted from her wasn't going to happen and
that made negotiations a bit touchy. "And you goading him in public
didn't help things much you know."

She must be talking about the night at the tavern. "I didn't goad him,
he started it. I was in a perfectly good mood and he wanted to be an
ass."

"Well he always wants to be an ass," she smirked. "I know you don't
like him, but that is neither here nor there. You have the bigger club
and you hit him with it. Did you really think he wouldn't find a way
to hit back?" She took a deep breath and blew it out slowly. "It won't
be easy but I'll talk to him."

"Do you think you can refrain from gloating about his weyrmate or me
in the near future?"

"I liked him just fine before he got all pouty. I didn't gloat until
he pushed me." He shook his head. "I don't want him using Jeyme or the
baby like game pieces. He seems to think this is personal and it's
_not_. I'm not out to get him or steal his toys. I just want to be
involved, to see the baby once in a while. I want to talk to him about
this like a rational adult."

"Pouty is a good description," she chuckled. "Can you give it some
time? I mean, maybe if you don't look interested he'll no longer feel
the need to cut you out." she was reaching for straws and she knew it.
But she honestly didn't know how to reach D'hol on the subject of
N'vanik.

"I can wait. For a while." He knew if he tried to push D'hol himself
it would make things worse. "He mentioned that he didn't know Keilya
was his until recently. He was cut out of her life. Maybe you can find
a... gentle way of saying he's trying to do the same thing to me."

"Alright," she said. "Do you care for Jeyme or is this just about the
baby?" She knew she probably didn't have the right to ask that
question as she looked into his hooded eyes. But she also knew his
relationship with Talryne wasn't the deep love match hers was with
K'deren.

"Between you and me, I wouldn't mind winning her flight again. But
outside that..." He shook his head. "I think she's a sweet girl and I
like her, but not like that."

That was kind of what she'd thought so she nodded. "I'll see what I
can do," she half smiled. "But you're going to have to be patient. He
holds his anger and doesn't forgive easily. It may take some time."

"I've never been a patient man." The corner of his mouth turned up.
"Thanks for talking to him. I think you might be the only one he'll
listen to."

"Well, that remains to be seen but I'll try. That's the best I can
give you for now. I know he cares for Jeyme, probably more than he
realizes." D'hol was deep and very very intense which could be quite
intimidating or fascinating when you were the focus of his attention.
Of course it could also be very infuriating when you didn't see eye to
eye with him.

"I hope you're right." He sighed. "I think she'd like me to be
involved but she doesn't want to upset him."

"I think you're right," she responded with a smile. "I also think she
loves D'hol and doesn't want to upset the redfruit cart. So if it
comes to choices..." she spread her hands.
