"Your daughter is fecking confusing." Jenackt groused irritably as he
came into the office and automatically locked the door behind him.
"Why can't she just say what the bloody blazes she means?" He stomped
to the desk, his hair in a complete disarray as he flopped into a
chair.

Saibra's eyebrows raised, and an amused smile covered her face but she
didn't look up immediately as she finished writing out some wing
reports for the Queen's Wing that she would send to Cyradis. It wasn't
the first time that Jenackt had come into her weyr in such a fashion,
so she had ceased to be surprised by, and knew that it meant she would
inevitably be explaining _something_ about women to him.

"No woman says what she means. Well, at least not most of them." And
even those who said they did were liars, Saibra concluded. "What did
she do?" She put away the notes and finally sat back to look at
Jenackt. She loved the way Saidrene was such a confusion to the boy.

"You're not confusing," he countered. While he didn't strictly
understand Saibra, she didn't utterly confound him. He could admit that
he didnt understand most people, but women....he huffed softly and
rested his chin on his hand. "She got all sorts of pissy because I
bedded a couple of the kitchen women."

Saibra didn't explain that she was so simple because her weyrmate was
dead. There had only ever been one man that Saibra would get jealous
over, and that was her arrogant, brownrider weyrmate K'fel. She
probably would have snatched him bald had she found out K'fel had been
runnin garound with kitchen women.

"Ah, I see." She leaned back in her chair, "Saidrene likes you, you know."

He blinked. "Well, yeah, I know that. I like her too." He looked at
her as though this was all already obvious.

"No," Saibra shook her head, "she _likes_ you. As in ... a boyfriend.
She probably thought you felt the same way about her. Her feelings are
hurt because what she thought was special between the two of you she
has now realized is not special at all." Saibra remembered that dreamy
feeling of being a teenager and thinking there would be that 'one and
only' person. She had left that disillusionment after K'fel died.

He blinked rapidly and sat up straight. "She never said that. I never
said that." He held up a hand. "I mean...I like her. I like being with
her, but I didn't know that that's how she felt..." He palmed his brow
and slumped. "Aww..bloody blazes in the fecking summer heat. I'm not
any sort of _boyfriend_."

Saibra smiled against her fingers, trying to hide the smile as she
traced the tip of her index finger along her lips, "Well now, a girl's
heart doesn't always make those sort of judgements. Saidrene's
seventeen, you're the first boy she's ever," Saibra waved her hand,
"been with in any way, and she's attached to you. I imagine she must
feel a great deal of embarassment now that she realizes you two aren't
on the same page. Which is mostly why she was angry with you."

"Well then why didn't she say something or ask or something?" He
rubbed his brow. "I didn't mean to hurt her feelings. I mean, she's
great, really. Especially in..." He paused and looked up, then cleared
his throat, not continuing that train of thought. "I wouldn't mind
being friends with her but I don't want to stop...you know.."

"But you don't want to stop sleeping around?" Saibra filled in.

"Shard's no! I just started it! Besides, if I did that, then I would
have to give up our lessons too!"

"Then you will just need to be honest with Saidrene, but I have to
tell you, not many women are going to be happy with you spreading the
legs of just any kitchen worker that throws herself down. Not even me,
and I am pretty casual about most things." Saibra propped her chin in
her hand.

"It wasn't just one. It was two at the same time and it was their
idea." Jenackt protested and then thought better of it and clicked his
teeth shut. Maybe he shouldn't be so proud of it. "Uhm..but I see your
point."

"Sometimes it takes a while to learn, Jenackt, but _quality_ is better
than quantity. Trust me on that." Saibra smiled a little, "No woman
wants to think that you've been inside of half the Weyr and then you
want to be inside of her too. It's a bit... gross when you think of it
that way. Especially depending on the cleanliness of the other women
you are having sex with."

He mused on that, his brow furrowing. She had a very good point...he
had no idea who the kitchen girls had been with and they had seemed
very...experienced. He frowned, suddenly glad he had bathed right
after. "You're right." He pinched the bridge of his nose. "Shaffit."

"Live and learn, Jenackt. I guess you need to ask yourself do you like
being around Saidrene, or just having sex with her." Saibra leaned
forward now, folding her arms on top of her desk.

He sighed and grumbled softly. "I like both, but I don't want to give
up freedom to choose either." He looked up at Saibra as well. "I don't
want to give up your bed."

Why did a part of her _like_ hearing that? **I am a bad, bad mother.**
She thought, not for the first time. "Yes, I wouldn't want you to give
that up either." There was no point in being dishonest, "Perhaps you
should tell Saidrene that you still want to be with her, and see her,
and spend time with her, but that you still want to explore other
options as well. You'll need to emphasis that just because you _are_
exploring other options doesn't detract from the way you feel about
her."

He frowned deeply. "How is that different from what I was already
doing?" He scratched his head.

"Because you actually need to talk to Saidrene about it, rather than
assuming."

"I'm not really good at talking." Jenackt sighed. This was more
complicated than he cared for. What was wring with just occasionally
bedding? He and Saibra were able to do that just fine. The emotional
connection she was referring to just didn't exist. He liked Saidrene,
he liked bedding her and wanted to again. Maybe if he just told her
what she wanted to hear, it would just make things easier.

"Then just end it, or back off until she decides what she wants to
do." Was Saibra's only advice. She knew Saidrene was young with plenty
of love and men ahead of her in her life.

He nodded. "Alright." He sighed and then tilted his head at Saibra,
pushing his hair from his brow. "Doesn't this ever get strange for
you?"

Saibra smiled, "Sometimes. I just try to keep things
compartmentalized. Being a woman, being a mother, being a goldrider is
like being three different people sometimes. Some women let being just
a mother or just a dragonrider define their lives. I like being all
three equally."

He arched a brow. "So you're what right now? Mother, rider or woman?"

"Well, if you are wanting more advice about Saidrene then I suppose I
am still a mother." Saibra cocked an eyebrow after that, "But if you
are ready to move on from that topic I would be more than happy to be
a woman." She glanced down at her schedule, "Because I don't have to
be a rider again until tomorrow morning."

A slow smile split Jenackt's face. "Did I mention how much I hate that
desk?"

A grin crossed her face, "I think you might have mentioned it."
