K'sedel

K'lvin knew that most of his friends thought he was crazy. Why was a
man his age suddenly uprooting himself, and his daughter, to switch
Weyrs on a whim? The bronzerider couldn't explain it to anyone,
shards, he could barely explain it to Xmranth. All K'lvin knew was
that it was time to leave Dragonsfall and all of his senses were
pointing him to one place- River Bluff Weyr. K'lvin looked forward to
the change in climate and fortunately Kylena had been nothing but
excited for this new adventure. Everything was exciting when you were
eight.

"Ready darlin'?" K'lvin asked as he gave Xmranth's straps one final check.

"I can't wait!" Came Kylena's excited chirp as she waited, on her
tiptoes no less, for her father to help her aboard his mighty bronze.

A small smile tugged at the corner of K'lvin's mouth at the enthusiasm
that Kylena was showing. So far she had not seemed nearly as homesick
for her mother as K'lvin had feared she would. But as far K'lvin could
figure, Cylena had been with the child for 8 Turns and now it was his
turn. "Let's go then."

K'lvin breathed a sigh of relief when Xmranth came out into the air
above River Bluff Weyr. The air was thick and warm, and immediately
made K'lvin begin to sweat in his riding jacket. Still, the warmth was
a welcome respite from the cold of /between/. Kylena giggled excitedly
as Xmranth brought them down in slow, smooth descent, all the while
bugling a welcome to the watch dragon on duty.

Even before his transfer papers had been accepted, K'lvin had already
arranged for Kylena's foster mother to be waiting on their arrival.
After all, he would have to report to the Weyrleader and get settled
into his weyr. And so, without fail, the woman was waiting patiently
in the Weyrbowl, a hand shading her eyes as she watched them land.

"You must be K'lvin," the woman stated matter-of-factly, striding up
to the beast, "and I take it this is miss Kylena?" Her stern voice
softened somewhat as she directed her voice to the child.

"Yes'm." Kylena had been taught manners by her mother, and K'lvin was
proud to see them in use.

"Well, come with me then. I will show you around and you can meet some
of the other Weyrbrats." Cathyna lifted her arms.

K'lvin unstrapped Kylena and passed her down to the foster mother, "I
will collect you later." He told his daughter, who merely nodded her
head and waved goodbye to him as she set off with Cathyna. Glad for
the smooth transition, K'lvin slid from Xmranth's neckridge, "I'll be
back shortly." He told his dragon, giving one bronze flank a thump
before pulling off his riding gloves and striding toward the
Weyrleader's office.

Most Weyrs were laid out the same, and K'lvin had visited River Bluff
before so he had no problem finding the man's office and knocking on
the open door, "Weyrleader?"

"Come!" called K'sedel. For once, the stack of hides was relatively small,
and most of them only required signing for the records, which made for a
pleasant change.

K'lvin stepped into the man's office and gave a respectful incline of
his head to the man that sat on the other side of the desk, "Just
checking in, Weyrleader."

"You would be K'lvin?" K'sedel was almost certain, but it was worth while
checking.

"Yes sir." K'lvin confirmed as he took a seat in the chair opposite
the Weyrleader's desk. The bronzerider had to admit that he was a
little surprise. He had never met the River Bluff Weyrleader and had
not pictured someone that was K'sedel's age.

"You have your papers?"

"Of course, sir." The bronzerider reached inside his riding jacket for
the folded papers that he had tucked away for safe travel. Pulling
them out he smoothed them on his leg before handing them over to his
new Weyrleader.

It was the work of moments to check through them. "From Dragonsfall, with a
daughter," he read aloud. "You've found her a foster mother already?"

"That is correct. She is with her now." K'lvin confirmed.

"Okay, and have you been allocated a weyr yet?"

"No, sir, I cam straight here." K'lvin explained, crossing one leg
over the other.

"I would suggest that you go and see our Headwoman after this, she'll point
you in the direction of some available weyrs so you two can choose one that
suits."

K'lvin nodded, "I will, sir." He would need something with stair
access so that Kylena would be able to access him should she knew to
see him at any time.

"Then all that remains is to welcome you to River Bluff."

A smile creased the bronzerider's face, "Thank you, sir." A hopeful
feeling stirred inside of K'lvin. River Bluff was going to be good, he
could tell already.
